Why Client Cannot Connect Remotely With External IP

Apr 1, 2012

I have a server and a client working with sockets. I run the server at my laptop, sending its internal IP to my Hotmail account and I run my client at my desktop. I enter the internal IP and connect fine! But when I tried to connect with my cousin's PC, which is not in my network, I entered its external IP and the client couldn't connect.

Here is the code for the Server (consists of 2 forms):
Form 1 (Server):
Imports System.Net
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Imports System.IO
Imports Microsoft.Win32
Imports System.Net.Mail

Irc Server - Computers - Able To Control Them Remotely Without Using External Dekstop Management ?

Jan 6, 2009

At my house we got 6 computers and 5 laptops. Not I want to be able to control them remotely without using external dekstop management or something else. So i can control when my kids can use the computer or not

So I came up with the idea of creating an irc server that listens to commands that I type from my main computer. The commands are no problem for me to program but the irc server itself looks pretty hard. I've been looking on google but cant find a good source to learn it. some other ideas than using irc protocol?

Remotely Connect To A Database?

Jun 29, 2009

Is possible for vb.net to create an oledbconnection based on a url?

We have a program that uses ms access as the back end database, which is stored on a local server. The issue we are having is that our office is split in two locations. The remote users are having unacceptable speed issues since they have to communicate over the vpn. Im trying to find a way to either place the database somewhere that is quickly accessable to both offices, or to create a copy of the database on the remote server and somehow sync the two databases periodically.

.Net Desktop Client Cant Connect To Offsite Webservice?

Aug 6, 2010

I have written a vb.net app that runs in multiple hospital networks. THe vb client periodically contacts a off-site webservice for datatransfers. The issue I am getting at a particular hospital is that the client PC's are not on the hospital's domain. So they are sort of off the radar. They do use the hospital network for internet access. When the user opens a web browser they are asked for domain

userid and password. If not are provided then they cannot proceed. What do I need to do with my vb.net code to make the webserver calls prompt for and use the proper domain user id and password?

OP3 Client To Connect To Gmail And Download Messages

May 10, 2012

I am using Peter Huber's POP3 client to connect to gmail and download messages. The inboxes being accessed are transactional inboxes used only for code-access. That is, a message comes in with a order file attached, code will process it and then delete the message. One stipulation of the code though was a DEBUG flag, which if set would prevent the code from deleting the message so that you can run the program again later without the debug flag and reprocess the message. So, in my code I have If Not Arguments.Debug Then pop.DeleteEmail(eid)

This works fine. Problem is, even when not deleting the message, running the program a second time will not re-retrieve the message, even though if I login to gmail and look at the inbox, it is still there. The only way I can get the program to see the message again is to forward the message back to the same inbox. But in Peter's code I do not see anywhere where he is keeping track of seen messages between sessions.

Is this something that is done on gmail's end? Refusing to deliver a message to the same client a second time? If so, is there any way I can change my gmail account so that it will always show all messages in the inbox to a client when retrieving the list of messages, even ones already "seen"? I don't see anything in the gmail settings screen.adding a method to send a RSET command to the server, as per this comment on the codeproject page.

DB/Reporting :: Connect Database In Server From A Client Computer?

Feb 24, 2008

I wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:

1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.

2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)

3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.

However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.
