Create An Index On Table

I want to create an index on my table. I used the following command Code:
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:database.mdb;Persist Security Info=False")
cn.Open()
cmd = New OleDbCommand("Create INDEX itmno_idx ON INVENT (ITEM_NO)", cn)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Now I want to use this. Is there a file created with some extension when i do an Indexing?. Is the above statment actually index the field, ITEM_NO or do i have to use ALTER TABLE command? Currently I am getting error "Cannot execute data definition statements on linked data sources"

How can you add a new row at a certain index in the table?

I have a foxpro table <b> INVENT.DBF</b> linked in MS ACCESS. When I tried to do a search in the table from vb.net application, it is taking a long time. So I want to index the foxpro table and then use it for search.
Here is the sample code I wrote in vb.net <i>

I'm, using a SQL Server table in a DataGridView and I'm having trouble adding records. I'm new to vb.net but used vb6 for a lot of years so the transition is a little difficult. For now I'm just trying to add a record using a button click but the record key which is setup as integer and to automatically increment by 1 shows as -1 after the record is created. While the data does show in the grid it is never actually posted in the table. Once created I want to select the record just entered.
Here's what I have:

I am an old VB2 programmer and in the process of moving up. In VB2 I could obtain a data row via and index on an access table. I can not find an example on how to do this. I can retrieve a single row using a query, but an index would be faster. I know in Oracle use can use a hirt to direct the query to use the index.Here is what I was during in VB2 (Sample) with no hint.
Set Stock_Tbl = "DataBaseName".openTable(Stock_Tbl_Name)

I created a function that creates a global temporary table to stage data from a excel sheet I need the table to persist for me to map the columns using a form. The table is still there when the code goes back to the sub that calls the function until I call the form where I do the mapping. I am trying to avoid create/drop table scenario with a perm stage table.How can I get this table to persist until the data gets loaded into the perm table?

This is really a pre-defined table and the data is already specified to be inserted to the table. However, my primarily task is to read a flat file which has the data and consider the first line as the column to be column names.
Therefore, initially I created an open dialogue to browse for the text file and store the path such as E:Datafile est.txt, in a TextBox1 visible at run time. Now the task is to change the above "create table" to read the txt file (column names are on the first line) and then create the table in the database.

I have a VB application where winsock is used. I want to convert it to VB.Net, so as I understand I should use System.net.sockets to do this.
But the problem is in the VB application multiple sockets are created by using the index feature of the winsock . example
Load Socket(isocket)
where isocket is an integer variable that is incremented each time, for a new connection request.
So how do I do the same, ie. open multiple sockets in vb.net?

I am working in Visual Basic 2008 and am trying to create an application that calculates body mass index. I have the entire form complete as well as much of the source code, but I am having trouble creating the code for input validation. On the form I have a text box for entering weight and a text box for entering height, which are both used to calculate the body mass index. Therefore, both text boxes input information cannot be negative or an illegal character ( $, @, !...) The input validation is supposed to present a Message Box that displays something along the lines of "Please enter numeric values" when input values are illegal characters "Please enter a positive number" when input values are negative "Invalid Entry" when input values equal 0

I am having major problems with creating my tables and populating them.The problem for the creating seems to lie when I try to create my table named WeeklyUnitStaffRota. I get the run time error 2147467259(80004005) No unique index found for the referenced field of the primary table. I would like to format output to a property of a custom control I have made.For instance I have a literal control in my control and when populated I want to check if it is longer than 30 characters long, if so, then go to the next space (as to not cut the word off) after the 30th character and place a <br /> tag in to place the next 30 characters on the next line.So if there were 100 characters in a string, there would be 3 line breaks in the label.I have the looping worked out to get the label populated but cannot get how to dymaically create the array based on the string lenth property and index of method.

I have a datagridview, with 3 columns, each containing dropdown filters (in the column header). Of the 3 columns, 2 are working perfectly fine, but whenever I try to filter the 3rd column, it gives me this error: (Also all of the column's have the ColumnType property set to: DataGridViewAutoFilterTextBoxColumn) "Index was out of range.
