View 3 RepliesI have a VB application where winsock is used. I want to convert it to VB.Net, so as I understand I should use System.net.sockets to do this.
But the problem is in the VB application multiple sockets are created by using the index feature of the winsock . example
Load Socket(isocket)
where isocket is an integer variable that is incremented each time, for a new connection request.
So how do I do the same, ie. open multiple sockets in vb.net?
I have an array of IP addresses, and I want to send the same data to all of them. I could just send the loop code that sends data but I think there's a better way of doing this.

I am actually new to VB.net...i have managed to create Sockets and communicate over them..but i dont know how fire sql queries through sockets as they take in Byte data as a input...i want to actually pass queries through sockets and retrive those results...i am using mysql database....i have actually tried changing the connection string (the ip address) for a static network but i think sockets are better for dynamic ip networks.

I am working on a project for software engineering where we are trying to create a warehouse inventory system. I have created an inventory page where I can add/delete/search for an item as well as access invoices and reorder items... i am struggling on the delete item part. I have my design set up where there are four different lists on my page. One for name, one for serial number, one for RFID number and one for amount in stock. I want to be able to select an item by name and its information in serial number, rfid, and amount also select and have no idea how to go about this..I wanted to use four different lists because I need to be able to delete an item from the list and it remove just one from that stock and not the entire item unless there is only one of that item left in stock.
for my inventory page
Public Class InventoryDepartment

In old VB6, I could set all txtBox controls when members of the same index eg.txtBox(0),txtBox(1) etc., to all do certain things in a couple of lines of code, eg.
Private Sub txtBox_GotFocus(Index As Integer)
txtBox(Index).SelStart = 0
txtBox(Index).SelLength = Len(txtBox(Index))

I want to create an index on my table. I used the following command Code:
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:database.mdb;Persist Security Info=False")
cn.Open()
cmd = New OleDbCommand("Create INDEX itmno_idx ON INVENT (ITEM_NO)", cn)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Now I want to use this. Is there a file created with some extension when i do an Indexing?. Is the above statment actually index the field, ITEM_NO or do i have to use ALTER TABLE command? Currently I am getting error "Cannot execute data definition statements on linked data sources"
I've looking everywhere but can not find out how to create index on vb 2008.what I mean is like in vb 6, for example in TextBox properties, I can create index. how is this working in vb 2008?

View 2 RepliesI am working in Visual Basic 2008 and am trying to create an application that calculates body mass index. I have the entire form complete as well as much of the source code, but I am having trouble creating the code for input validation. On the form I have a text box for entering weight and a text box for entering height, which are both used to calculate the body mass index. Therefore, both text boxes input information cannot be negative or an illegal character ( $, @, !...) The input validation is supposed to present a Message Box that displays something along the lines of "Please enter numeric values" when input values are illegal characters "Please enter a positive number" when input values are negative "Invalid Entry" when input values equal 0
Here is my code:
Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click

I had restart my program for 5 times, and i still can get through it. the due date just around the corner.

I need to create a telephone directory with search option(textbox). I use sql db as backend and vb.net for frontend. In this the user must search for a particular name using the textbox and the results have to be displayed in the gridview. how to do this?
View 1 RepliesI would like to format output to a property of a custom control I have made.For instance I have a literal control in my control and when populated I want to check if it is longer than 30 characters long, if so, then go to the next space (as to not cut the word off) after the 30th character and place a <br /> tag in to place the next 30 characters on the next line.So if there were 100 characters in a string, there would be 3 line breaks in the label.I have the looping worked out to get the label populated but cannot get how to dymaically create the array based on the string lenth property and index of method.

I have a datagridview, with 3 columns, each containing dropdown filters (in the column header). Of the 3 columns, 2 are working perfectly fine, but whenever I try to filter the 3rd column, it gives me this error: (Also all of the column's have the ColumnType property set to: DataGridViewAutoFilterTextBoxColumn) "Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than size of the collection. Parameter name: index." The error points to the part that begins with "If dgv1.Rows(e.RowIndex)..."

If I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly.But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?
i am trying to get the value into the cur_stock where item_id = datagrdiview.curentcell.value.I am lookin out for the solution since couple of days, but couldnt figure it out.Well, m trying to make this work on CellMouse click event

Trying to input a high setpoint, low setpoint, a % load, and number of compressors, then calculate the temp that all compressors are off. Then build a datagridview with the staging of compressors from all off to all on for each compressor up to 10 compressors.I am trying to insert headers from 1 to 10 compressors (Variable) with the text "Comp1", "Comp2", etc....Two rows with header. I am trying to use an array with index number to insert the text, but that is where my problem happens."Index was out of range".Here is my code
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

I've got the web browser with tabs in all working fine, but there's one bug, i can add tabs, delete em, etc.. but when i delete a tab then go to create a new tab, it gives me the error: InvalidArgument=Value of '6' is not valid for 'index'. Parameter name: index '6' is the number of tabs i had open.Here's the bit of code i use to create the tabs with the browser in it:
vbcode
Dim browse As New WebBrowser
browse.Name = "b1"
browse.Dock = DockStyle.Fill
[code]....
When the selected index changes I for a second time this code errors.
vb.net
lvReports.SelectedItems.Item(0).SubItems.Item(2).Text
with this error message
InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'index'. Parameter name: index
Why is this?It worked for the listviews.click event perfectly.
I am coding a program for a movie trivia game that randomly shows a movie quote and the the user selects a movie name from a combo box that matches. I used a array for the movie quotes and a comboBox for the movie names. I have coded a portion of the program but I am stuck on how to compare the array quote being shown to what movie the user selects from the comboBox. I have tried numerous different things but none seem to work right. The way I have it coded now it shows that every movie I pick that it is right even if it is wrong. I am going to show part of the code here and also attach the entire solution for anyone that needs it .
