Custom Tool 'MSDataSetGenerator' Failed - Unable To Convert Input Xml File Content To A DataSet

Jul 13, 2006

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 Team System For Software Developers. When I try to add a new DataSet to any kind of project, I cannot get to the visual DataSet designer. Rather, I get the following error (all the time no matter what the type project actually is - Windows app, Web site, etc.): The custom tool 'MSDataSetGenerator' failed. Unable to convert input xml file content to a DataSet. Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.

The Custom Tool 'MSDataSetGenerator' Failed While Processing The File

Feb 10, 2007

nutty VS2005 error. I know I have an error in my dataset file (XSD file), but none of the errors listed after this warning message truly points to the source of the problem. In the past, when my dataset had only a few tables, it was easy to find the error. Now I have 50+ tables. I'm not sure where to start.

Error: MSDatasetGenerator Failed. Failed To Generate Code Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Jul 28, 2009

I created a typed dataset a day or so ago, then I added a whole bunch of tableadapter/tables with some relationships etc... suddenly out of nowhere it decides my dataset "is not defined". everywhere in my code where i use this dataset now has an error. I tried not to pull out my hair and do a Clean then Rebuild solution... out of nowhere it just refuses to generate code. Object reference not set to an instance of an Object. It would be nice if it was my object so i could find it but it's not.

Curiously I also lost the little database icon on the dataset in the solution explorer.I can still open it in the designer and preview my queries etc... it just wont make the code. it's driving me insane. anyone got a solution?

Unable To Scroll Custom Content In WebControl

Jul 2, 2009

This is really annoying. I am implementing Google Maps in Windows Forms application via the WebBrowser control. The map and the directions are too large for the Window and I have the ScrollBarsEnabled = True but, the scroll bars never show up. The only way to get to the content that is 'off-screen' is by clicking and dragging the mouse downward. I have looked for other properties but, none seem to be appropriate.

I would be glad to provide code snippit if needed.

VS 2008 Can't See Custom Control In VS Tool Box From Referenced DLL

Apr 14, 2010

I have created a custom control in one VS project. Once tested and built, I then copied the object over to a structured class library type project I hope to use as a code repository for these kind of things. To ensure I can get to the control, I created a test project and added this repository dll as a reference. The problem is that I cannot see the custom control in the toolbox.

Is there an attribute or something I should've used in the repository dll in order for this to happen?

My objective is to create a custom namespace in this repository dll so that any custom objects or controls can be referenced in various other applications without having to copy the objects to each. I know my reference is good as I can create the control in code. I would just like to see it show up in the toolbox!

C# - .Net - Unable To Set The Next Statement To This Location. The Attempt To Unwind The Callstack Failed

Jan 5, 2010

While answering this question I noticed that I got the following dialog while atempting to move the "cursor" while an exception was being handled:

Unable to set the next statement to this location. The attempt to unwind the callstack failed.

Unwinding is not possible in the following scenarios:

Debugging was started via Just-In-Time debugging.
An unwind is in progress
A System.StackOverflowException or System.Threading.ThreadAbortException exception has been thrown.

What exactly is an unwind?

DataSet Bound To DGV - Failed To Enable Constraints

Jul 31, 2010

I keep getting this error message (see image). What's weird is it's coming from a "typed" dataset that is bound to a DataGridView and even though I get this message, the DGV still loads with all the data. I've bound this dataset to the DGV thru the designer. Here is the line of code that is erroring out:
Me.adpItemMaster.Fill(Me.JewelryDBDataSet18.tblItemMaster)
I checked the table and the primaryKey for the tblItemMaster is unique for each row.

Failed To Convert Parameter Value From String To Int32

Jan 28, 2011

I'd like to see what is about to be sent to the SQL Server from my SqlCommand before SQLCmd.ExecuteNonQuery() runs.

I'm trying to debug because I am receiving the following error:
System.FormatException: Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32.

Normally, I would use SQL Server Profiler to view what is being sent to SQL Server, but my statement is not making it that far. Is there a way to determine what it is trying to convert? I am having problems determining which parameter is causing the error.

ASP.NET Custom Control - Template Allowing Literal Content?

Jun 16, 2010

I want my User Control to be able to have Literal Content inside of it. For Example:

<fc:Text runat="server">Please enter your login information:</fc:Text>

Currently the code for my user control is:

<ParseChildren(True, "Content")> _
Partial Public Class ctrFormText
Inherits UserControl[code]..............

And when I put text inside this control (like above) i get this error: Parser Error Message: Literal content ('Please enter your login information to access CKMS:') is not allowed within a 'System.Collections.ArrayList'.This control could have other content than just the text, so making the Content property an attribute will not solve my problem.I found in some places that I need to implement a ControlBuilder Class, along with another class that implements IParserAccessor.Anyway I just want my default "Content" property to have all types of controls allowed in it, both literal and actual controls.

Fields: CustomerID, Title, Forename, surname, street, town, country, postal code, home phone, mobile phone, work phone, email.

All the data types in this are Strings with the exception of CustomerID.
Table: Country
Fields: CountryID, Country
CountryID = Integer, Country = String

There is a relationship between country.country and customer.country. I have made country a combo box with the contents of country inside it. This problem is resolved if I remove country as an input - but I need it in!
