Data Binding - Databinding A List (in An Object) To A Combobox In .net?

VB 2008 .NET 3.5. I have a custom "Shipment" object that contains a list of "ShippingRate" objects. This list of "ShippingRates" is accessible through a property "Shipment.PossibleShippingRates." That property simply returns a copy of the list of "ShippingRate" for that particular Shipment.
My UI layer receives a list of "Shipment" objects from the BLL. This list is databound to a datagridview, and shows details relevant to the Shipment such as Shipping Address, etc.
I want to bind the "Shipment.PossibleShippingRates" property to a combobox, such that when the user changes the grid row, the combobox reflects the "PossibleShippingRates" for that "Shipment."
In addition, I need a way to store the "ShippingRate" they selected from the combobox for later use.
I have tried a few ideas, but none of them work properly.

What I would like to do is bind a combobox to my own object which is as follows:

(I have put breakpoints and I know this object has data.)So on my form how do I bind my combobox to this object? The code I have is below:

cboCategory.ValueMember = "CategoryID"
but it returns the following error: Cannot bind to the new display member. Parameter name: newDisplayMember

I'm having trouble with some Silverlight functionality. My goal is to get some data from the database and display it in my grid. Sounds simple, however, there are 7 columns that are always going to be there.
The rest of the columns depends on the account. There could be 2 (called Actions) associated with a certain account, compared to another account that could have 5, and the action names can be completely different.
I have successfully been able to return a list of all the possible actions for the given account, and then adding the columns to the grid in the code bihind(VB), and I can bind my data to the grid for all the columns that are already known. The way I store the item's actions, is a Property of type List. My problem is finding a way to iterate through the actions list of the Item object in order to bind those actions to the grid.

I'm trying to bind data to a combo box but it does not appear to be working. I've setup the DataSet and the DataSetBindingSource and all this appears to be working, within the form design I can expand the little arrow in the ComboBox control and preview the data. This appears to be working but when the application is run, nothing appears in the drop down box.

how to use the VS 2010 IDE tools in a way the Microsofties didn't specifically intend. But since this is something I immediately tried without success.
I have defined a .NET 4.0 WPF Application project with a simple class that looks like this:

Public Property One As String = "OneString"
Public Property Two As String = "TwoString"

The expected result was that "OneString" would appear next to "One" and "TwoString" next to "Two" in the running window.
The question is: Why didn't this work? What will work instead? If I put bindings in a DataTemplate, it works. Blend, with its sample data stuff, implied that this should work, but it doesn't.

I've got a bound Combobox in a database for a lookup but when i set it up and change the data in the combo the program won't let me go and further. There is a data conflict but i don't know where. The problem is here in the combo setup:
Display member : ProductName (nvarChr(20)
Value Member : ProductID (int)
Selected Member: SelectedLookup (int)
This doesn't work. Everything is displayed in the dropdown by name but when i select a item. I can't go any further. If i change the Display member: to 'ProductID' the program works fine. but displays the ProductID where users won't understand. It's like it is trying to store the 'displayed member' Product Name instead in the Value Member 'ProductID'. if i use a list box instead the program works correctly.

I'm wondering what a best practice is for handling this.I've got a standard vendor table - with VendorId (which is PK, numeric) and a field the users call SimpleId (which is usually a name - don't let the column name of SimpleId make you think it's numeric!).I've got one datatable that comes from a data adapter that looks like this. I have a DataRepeater that needs to display individual items from a List (Of T). The missing link between them is a BindingSource component.Everything works fine, i.e., the DataRepeater displays list items correctly, and I can add and delete items, even change using the TextBoxes on the DataRepeater.
The problem is that when I change the value of an item in the code, it doesn't get reflected on the DataRepeater. Only when I click a button on the form which executes this code:myBindingSource.ResetBindings(False)

I use the data binding mode to fill data into a list box, that is just fill all of the data in the table. if I want to group one of the table column and only display it in the listbox, how can I get this done? I know how to add a getData query to my table adapter, but how can I bind that new datatable to the list box at runtime?? cuz I need to put the data binding mode information in before I run the application and in the binding mode is no way to choose that getData query.

I have a combo box that is populated with a list of objects (corresponding to all employee rows from a database that meet the criteria IsTech). These are not entity objects though, I have created my own class that stores the member values of each row from the DB. I have set the DisplayMemberPath to EmployeeId so the Combo box display the EmployeeId ( an integer ) member of my object. Ie. right now there are only 2 IsTech employees in my DB so the combobox displays the numbers 3 and 8 ( their EmployeeIDs).

Im doing my first project with WinForms, and Im trying to get the DataBinding working. Theres no database in my project, but I'd like to bind some of the TextBoxes to objects' properties. In the other section of this forum (here) I found this line of C# code which does it: textBox2.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("Text", this.myPerson, "LastName"));
my question is can data binding to object properties be set up during design time (without writing code)? If so, how? P.S. I know how I would set up this binding if in WPF, but I'm forced to use WinForms.

My DataGridView does have a Combobox Column, when I am trying to Databind this DataGridView into my Datatable, it gives me an error: DataGridViewCombobox Cell Value is not valid. I'm having an issue with getting the errorprovider to work in a database application where I have put the error provider logic in a partial class and have a combobox value change.Either I set the bindings so that it works but any navigation in the binding navigator then updates the value of that combobox on every next previous etc or it never fires until the save. So there is no way to change the errorprovider setcolumnerror string to something new with out saving on every navigation move. After changing the selection in the combobox the row does shows dirty (rowstatus) so there is databinding but it doesn't fire the ColumnChanged event like textbox and other controls. Is there a way to keep all this in the business logic in a partial class?

I'm creating a composite user control and trying to exposing the controls as properties so that I can databind them from the form that I drop the user control onto. One of the controls I'm trying to expose is a combobox and I can't seem to figure out how to expose this combobox to the designer. I have a combobox in a form, I want to fill it with names I have stored in a database. I know I have to use the fill command, but I am not sure what code I need to use. I imagine I need to place this code in the form load event, where I wrote my code to connect to the database. Do I need to create a sql fill command, select Names From Users, then execute that command in the combo box object.

I'm rewriting a VB6 application in VB.Net. So far I have 2 forms, frmLocations (frm1) and frmLocationInfo (frm2). frmLocations has a combobox, cboLocations, from which a selection is made and an "Ok" button is clicked, which then loads frmLocationInfo. frmLocationInfo has a series of textboxes to display info corresponding to the location that was selected - Location, Location Number, Phone, Fax, Email. There are also 3 comboboxes on frmLocationInfo - cboDepot, cboFreight, and cboDispatcher. I need their text property along with items to be populated, also with data corresponding to the initial selection made on frmLocations. I'll spare you all the difficulties I'm having w/the other comboboxes, and instead focus on cboDepot. I have gotten it to populate its text property to display the corresponding Depot, however, the items are not populating and all you see now when you click on the dropdown arrow is only the depot that shows up in the text property.

I have a form, frm1 w/a combobox, cboLocations, which is being populated using a sql string. There is also a frm2 w/a series of textboxes and other comboboxes. I want it so that once a selection is made from cboLocations, the textboxes and comboboxes on frm 2 are populated with the corresponding data. Here is what I have so far:

I have the following code that populates a combobox:

However, the SelectedValueChanged event fires once when I set the datasource and again when I set the valuemember. In both instances there is a selected value, although that value was not selected by any user action, but rather because of the loading of the combo box.I don't think there's a 'SurpressEventFiring' property for the combobox, so how to you check to see if the change in the selection was a result of user action and not data loading?Perhaps I'm populating my combobox wrong?

I got a combobox that I populate with items by using databinding options which works fine, but what if I only want to only select the distinct items, was trying to do that but no avail so far. if I could do that just by using an sqladapter in code but is that what I should really do ?

I have databinding in an ASP.Net application to a GridView. This gridview is bound to an ObjectDataSource as per standard usage.
The problem I have is that one of my bound fields uses the property DataFormatString="{0:C}" and due to the currency format being displayed when an update is attempted and the object recreated I get a error as such "$13.00 is not a valid value for Decimal."
Clearly this is a result of the column using a FormatString and then attempting to bind it back to a decimal property I have in my object called UnitPrice.
I am assuming there is some markup I can set that can specify how the value is translated back?
For anyone curious the solution ended up looking like this...
