I have to design each dockingitem as a child form.If so it is inconvenient because when mainform is loaded. I have to remove all dockingitems. then when i click button1 , the first dockingitem will show.I click button2 the second dockingitem will show (i show dockingitem one after other when i click correspond button)It seems not suitable for standard designing.
View 6 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2008 Pro (.Net 3.5 SP1). I'm trying to make some MDI child forms in a Windows project (VB) and cannot find any "MDI Child" or "MDI Parent" property for any form.
How can I designate a form as an MDI Child at design time?
I've read the help files and they reference either an "MDI Parent" or "MDI Child" property but I cannot find those properties in the property list of any form.
I seem to have reached a limit on the size of the form. I cannot make the form longer and I need to add more fields. Is there a limit on how many fields can be included in a form?

View 6 RepliesI have a MenuStrip with File > New, Open, Save, Exit located in a parent form, and a RichTextBox located in a child form.The problem I'm running into is concerned with the destination of the file elected from "Open" and the save.When a user selects their file from "Open", I need it to open the child form and put the text into the RichTextBox.I also need the program to be able to "Save" from a child form, whether it's been brought up via "New" or "Open".

I have a UserControl that contains other controls that I would like to be able to rearrange or resize at design time. So I have a custom designer for the UserControl that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner, and I call EnableDesignMode on the child controls from within the designer. That way, at design time, I can drag and drop the child controls to move them, or resize them. But I can also drag and drop the child controls somewhere else on the form that is outside of the original UserControl. Is there a way I can limit the child controls from being moved or resized outside the UserControl?
View 1 Repliesi have a treeview which has a bunch of parent and child nodes preset at design time, there is 1 parent node tho which is called developer, that i want to add child nodes to at runtime.When the form first loads im trying to have it check a text file and for each line in the text file add the text/string from that as a child node tot he 'developer' parent node.

I'm creating an application that uses an MDI container to create a sort of desktop style for my form with a group of icons docked to the left hand side. The rest of the form is the desktop area that I want all windows to open in.If I use the standard File-New option that is provided by VB as a default for the MDI container this works fine and a child window is loaded.If I use similar code from one of the icons this also works fine.y problem is that one of my child forms is a search panel and when I double click on one of the results I want a window to open, but as an MDI child. However, this doesnt happen. When I open the window it opens as a completely separate window and isn't docked within the MDI parent. It also appears on the task bar as a separate application.

Scenario I have an MDI form with a UserControl docked at the top. The UserControl is for navigation and is ~50 pixels in height. When I show a child form with its WindowState property already set to 'Maximized', the child form shows maximized in the MDI parent, but behind the UserControl.

The following code does create a form within a form and does place NotePad inside the child form. You have to manually start NotePad prior to execution (I work on that later) but the code does workŠ My problem is now I want to manipulate the properties of notepad i.e. focus, size, location, etc. but I cannot figure out how to reference notepad and its properties.

but when the form opens it flickers a lot. so i want move the new form behind the main form while it loads so the user does not see the flicker. once it is done loading i will set the form to topmost. how do i move the new form behind the main form?

I had a project converted from vb6.. now I'm replacing old controls with new ones.. but when I delete the control off the form.. the form generate code still shows it.. I didnt think I was supposed to monkey with that code and remove anything..
I assume there is a way for the code to regenerate from the actual form design ?
I tried rebuild project.. but that didnt do anything.. I'm a tad new to vb.net..

As Autodesk is going to discontinue VBA for their Inventor product in the near future I have been looking at other ways to run VB.NET in Inventor. To date it doesn't look like VSTA will be the replacement. Automation from an External VB.NET app is certainly possible, but leaves something to be desired for speed and integration. Compiled Add Ins are the Cadillac of choice but can be a royal pain to debug and develop. Autodesk now provides a lightweight VB.NET script interface called iLogic. It's main purpose is to allow extreme customization of Solid Modeling parts. The code actually resides inside the Part Model file.

I have a VB. Net App where I want the user to open a modeless form which contains reference information about items in a select box. If the user double clicks the item selected in the list box a modal form is opened to edit the item.I want the previously opened reference form to remain active/enabled, that is, I want the user to be able to click on it, move it, etc.I was able to get the form to at least show up on the task bar by setting it's "ShowInTaskBar" property to true, however, when it comes to the front the user can still not move it to the side to view all of the Edit Forms information.

View 7 RepliesIt has to be a simple line of code but I do not know how to construct it. Using VB 2010 Express, I have a MDI parent form and many child forms. I want the parent form to determine what child form is active and load data into the RichTextBox1 on the child form. Each Child form has a RichTextBox1. The parent form gets its data by loading a file.
I am close to a solution but just can't get there. You will see in the code below, if I make a direct reference to a specific child form, it works great. What I want to do is to use the Active Form function to determine which form to write to. I have looked at the MS tutorial which gets me close.

I have a program I've been working on for some time now and I'd like to try to streamline it somewhat. I have a main menu form that has a split panel, in the left panel is a treeview that displays forms you can open and when one is selected, it opens in a child window in the right panel. Each time I open form I called DWNForm, it does a series of dataset loads which are the populating items for a series of listviews.
What I would like to do is have these datasets load once during the mainMenu load and then have the DWNForm be able to access the datasets once it is called from the treeview selection.
I have two forms. Form A and Form B. Form A has a datagrid that is populated from a SQL Database Table query. When a button is pressed Form B is launched that allows you to add a record to the database table. I need for the datagrid to be refreshed and show the newly added record when I close form B and go back to the parent.

I want to create an IMAGELIST in a main form and add to it then have it accessible within a child form. I found several MS examples on database shared access but this is NOT the concept I am after. Straight forward:
Child_Form.<function_to_execute_in_child_form>(The_Passed_Imagelist)
So, within the child form it want to do whatever I like to the IMAGELIST! I have tried passing the object by reference and anything I could think of.
When I open my child form,
frm_Analogs.ShowDialog()
It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?
The problem is that icon on the Child Form appear in front of Menu strip control on MDI form when child form is maximised.

View 1 RepliesBasically I have two forms - Form1 has a DataGrid on it (Infragistics) and in the double-click row event it creates an instance of the EditForm and passes along the UniqueId for editing. Once the user saves the changes (if they make changes) - I want the DataGrid on Form1 to refresh. Here is how I thought I could get this to work ... I create a public property called RefreshRequired as boolean. Before unloading the EditForm it sets this property to true. Then Unloads. This continues the code in Form1 (which showed the EditForm as modal) but RefreshRequired is still showing as False? Why isn't my EditForm able to set the property?
