I'm trying to use the errortext field on a cell to display a validation error. It works fine if I leave the cell, but I can't figure out how to display it while staying in the cell. I have seen examples where the code updates the row's errortext, but I really want to mark the cell in error.

So this is what needs to happens if the focus is on the DataGridView when the user hits the Tab key it moves the focus to first text box. My problem is the user could be coming from any one of 20 datagridviews when they click SAVE. Is there any way, short of checking for a dirty cell in each datagridview to commit any dirty cell before the save ( clicking another textbox control before the save does the trick but calling the focus() of that textbox prior to the save does not ) I was thinking perhaps catching the event of leaving the grid but it seems the base problem is clicking a button (for reasons I think I understand) does not fire lostfocus events for the current control and it doesn't seem the click handler args knows what the last current selected control is.
I have a datagrid that will be accepting data from an external measuring device via the serial port. The grid is also open to editing records as well. Part of the process of making this grid user friendly is to intercept the "enter" key and move to the next cell until there is a value in the cell. I have a datagrid control on my form that receives data from a device on the COM port. I strip out the data I need and put it into the currently selected cell. When I load the grid, I find the first empty cell and set the focus so each load presents the user with an empty cell to start receiving data. Once I get the measurement, I need to move to the next cell down (like hitting enter in the grid). This will allow the user to do measurements with the external device without having to move to the next cell.

View 1 RepliesSo I've got 2 unbound datagridviews, and am providing a push/pull interface where the user can move records from one to the other.
Grid A is read-only and the selectionmode is set to FullRowSelect. Grid B has a read-only DataGridViewTextBoxCell, an editable DataGridViewComboBoxCell, and an editable DataGridViewComboBoxCell.
Because the grids have different columns, but represent the same records, my notion was to create the datagridviews with the same column structure but hiding certain columns, and then just move the DataGridViewRows back and forth between the two, which seams to work.
The problem is that if I go into column 2 or 3 in grid B, I get "Current cell cannot be set to an invisible cell".
I can select cells in column A and I'm fine. It should be noted that on grid B the hidden columns are 4-7.
I know there's a problem when the CurrentCell attribute is set to a hidden cell, but I'm clicking visible cells. I inserted a breakpoint on the CellClick event of the DGV, and again for column 1 that works fine, but on columns 2 and 3 it looks like the error is occuring before the event even gets fired.
Is something in the background setting CurrentCell to one of the hidden cells before firing the event?
I followed an example to add a custom control (multicolumnCombobox) to my datagridview.[code]Ok, this is fine and dandy, for it adds the custom control to column 2 and row X of that loop.... Now, when I actually use the control for lets say row 0, how do I get the row 0 cell 2 value to be the same as the custom control??I have no way to communicate between the custom control and the datagridview cell.

I am quite comfortable with the use of datagridview control accepting a list of objects as its datasource. I am also comfortable with populating the cell contents in the cellformatting event.
So I am planning to, instead of using a normal textbox control, button control and linkedtext control in datagridview cell, display my own custom control which is good one for displaying some custom data like, name, address, telephone, photo and others. It would be a nice improvement in my application.
I've followed the tutorial on the MSDN for this subject to the T and I'm not getting the User Control to Display in the cell.
I don't think the InitializeEditingControl is ever getting called by the Cell for some reason.

View 14 RepliesI have added a custom Control to my project, but every time I edit it and rebuild the form that I use the custom control in adds the project name in front of the control and won't compile. i.e. Project name = MyProject, Custom Control name = MyControl. When I rebuild the project after editing my control I get an error, MyProject.MyControl doesn't exist. If I remove the MyProject from the line it compiles and runs fine until next time I edit the custom control.
I can't figure out what I would be doing wrong to cause this, or why it is putting the project name in front of the control, but then not accepting it. I am also struggling figuring out how to change the back color on an individual cell in an Datagridview Combo Box. The style.backcolor property of the cell doesn't seem to do anything.

Using the walkthrough from [URL], I implemented a DatagridView in virtual mode, totally unbound, in VB 10 Express (we are talking WinForms).
I understand that CommitEdit (DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit) commits the current cell's contents to the data cache.
The example uses row-level commit, i.e. it pushes the values into a row buffer until the current row is left. Only then the row is added to (or updated in) the data store. That's exactly what I do, too.
Question -- how can I commit the current row programmatically without leaving it? (I want to commit the whole row, not just the current cell.)
If the user leaves the row, there is a RowValidating, RowValidated, RowEnter event sequence where the datastore update is taken care of. So one idea (currently my only one) was to simply re-set CurrentCell to Nothing, for example.
But I cannot just set the DataGridView's CurrentCell property to Nothing (or any cell outside of the current row) since I want to commit from within an event handler of a custom edit control created by a custom column, and I see an System.InvalidOperationException exception when setting CurrentCell there.
In fact, it is a tiny button right to a combo box, i.e. I create a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendant which is a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn descendant's edit control. My special ComboBox cell adds a tiny button which should commit the current row. Unfortunately, that button's _Click event handler cannot change CurrentCell since DetachEditingControl throws the exception then.
Obviously, I must delay the CurrentCell re-assignment until the whole _Click event has been processed. Or what? How would I do that -- register a custom Windows message, SendMessage that one to me, and override the windows procedure of the form so it re-sets CurrentCell when this message is received? (Hello?)

How to programmatically change foreground color and make bold text in individual cell location on DataGridView control (Visual Basic)?
I use "dgMatrix.Rows(r).Cells(c).Value = x" to assign individual numeric values to individual cells in a DataGridView control. My question; is there a similar way to change foreground color and make bold the text in this cell, by specifying the individual row/column cell location?
For example; for cell (row 3, col 5) in the DataGridView make text in cell say red and bold or blue and bold so as to highlight and distinguish individual cell contents. As needed, I will also need to reset these properties (foreground back to automatic/black and font from bold back to regular); the reset could be done globally to the whole DataGridView as opposed to indiviaually by cell.

I have a DataGridView with several columns. One column is a TextBox column named "Status". This column can only show one of three values: 'Final', 'Ready', or 'No Reportable'. I want to have some code that would turn the TextBox cell into a ComboBox cell when the user left-clicks on the cell to allow the user to choose one of these three options. When the user clicks elsewhere or the cell loses focus I want the cell to change back to a TextBox cell.
Here is what I have so far, but the code throws an exception indicated below Plus, I don't think the code would remove the combobox when the cell loses focus.

I am using this code at the last line of my form load. I want the position 5,5 to have the cursor set at it. It works when then datagrid is already open:[code]However, when I use it on the form load, you can see that it was selected on the datagrid, but the cursor is set at textbox1...which happens to have the first tab order on the form, even though I have acceptstabs off. Can anyone tell me why this would happen? Basically, it is setting the cursor at the cell I want, but after the form loads, it jumps to textbox1 and highlights the text.
