Does anyone know how I could get my app to show the ISP of the machine it is running on, I can get internal and external IP addresses, just need to know if possible and how to look up ISP from this information
View 1 RepliesI have a button in my visual basic application that finds an address on a Bing map. It then launches the browser, passing the address of the property on the URL. Used to work just fine, but it doesn seem to work anymore and I don't know why. For example, if I cut/paste the following URL into my browser, bing maps comes up but does nothing.
[URL]
However, when I bring up bing maps and cut/past just the address into the search box, if finds the parcel. if an address can still be passed on the URL?
I have a small embedded web server and to setup its network parameters I use a serial port, however this is giving me a lot of trouble due to USB to serial adapters (in some computers work in other doesn't).
However the other day I saw that Buffalo has a little program to find their NAS boxes (or network drives) when you don't know their IP address or got the wrong one so I assume they do it by looking for mac addresses.Is there any way of doing this with VB 2005 or higher? Basically I don't know the IP of the embedded server so I need to find it on a network, how do I find it?
a) I could do a general IP scan assuming it is on the same subnet than the host computer
b) if it has a different subnet... a general IP scan is not going to work, is it?
Lately I have been making a program (I guess you could call it a trainer), which would read the process memory to get the character's coordinates in a game. It later makes a simple map and show it in a separate windows. I built this program in VB.net, and it works surprisingly well. The only problem is the fact that the memory address where the coordinates are stored, changes every time I restart the game. Could someone please help me find a way, for the program to find the correct address by itself? If it helps, the game I am referring to is Minecraft.
View 2 RepliesI whould like to find the IP address of a game server that sends UDP packets to my PC. Of this server I know the fixed Port number, but not the IP address
I can read the netstat -anp udp data and store them in a text file... but this command don't displais the IP Address and the Port number of the external servers, only lots of asterisks
the question is: how to retrieve this IP address?
In html it's easy to get a button to get an file on your local hard drive but I can't seem to find or remember how to do it for a VB application (using Visual Basic 2010). What I would like is for the button to find a local directory, select it and then add the address to a textbox.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way i can write this into a command button?
In a CMD Prompt if you type:
nslookup
set type=mx
set timeout=30
emailaddressdomain.com
it will give you the outgoing mail server address is there a way i can write that into a command button and display the results into a textbox?
I'm adding an email facility to my VS2008 (VB) project. I have the form and most of the code in place but am unsure about adding the detail to the textboxes. My data will come from an Sql datatable via a Stored Procedure. What I would like to do is use the autocomplete property of the recipients textbox so as to show the Display Name and the Email Address as is done in Outlook. Like John Smith <jsmith@*****>

Everything goes well, I'm able to retrieve the text value and everything, but this happens.Lets say the value of the memory address is "Notepad". When the MsgBox comes up, it comes up a lot of times, displaying it like this...
1st MsgBox displays "N"
2nd MsgBox displays "No"
3rd "Not"
4th "Note"
and so on...

I am new to using visual basic 2005. I have a tutorial book and I have followed it but it does not help me understand. I have a limited understanding of the net framework and the drag and drop features.
What I want to know is this: How do I make a simple name and address tracker file that I can enter data and save it as a file. The book does not cover this proceedure but It is what I want to do.
IE: Start VB2005 start new windows app. Name (whatever) drag 2 label's and 2 textbox's and one button for saving data entry. I want this program to enter name in textbox1 (press enter) then enter address in textbox2 (press enter) then save file (whatever name) when you click the button.
That title is really confusing I know. But I will try and make sense of this.If you drag a file onto a rich text box, it will add this little watermark-ish thing with the file extensions icon, and the file name.
Is there a way that I can get that files address, upon a certain event?
Are there any IP Address filters or masks available in Windows Forms as per following screenshot? A backslash shouldn't be allowed or it should be filtered somehow.

I have an account with a website and I want my software to automatically download files that are generated.
I go to the website and login, and then I click a link that downloads a file. Unfortunately, I can't use the My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile function, because the first argument of that function is a file address (http:// www . website . html/file.txt). Instead of that, the address if I look at the link to download the file is something like this (http:// www . website . com/pid=1&output=csv&action=view&pview=pview).
You see how this won't work? I'm looking to use my software to automatically download the file that's available, but I can't use the DownloadFile function.
Can anyone point me to some code which can help obtain the network address from the host IP and subnet mask?
View 3 Repliesim using vb8.net im struggling to make a program that will display email addresses so in other words if im using ms outlook then by the click of the button the program must go in to the windows registry and then look in the place where the email address is and then read that part and display the address in a text box.
View 8 RepliesMy app is using MySQL. Right now, the IP/Port, username and all that stuff is hard coded in a string.
Public urlMySQLDatabase1 As String = "Server=173.201.88.22;port=3306;Database=DBName;Uid=DBName;Pwd=DBpassword;"
So all the code that needs this string gets it here.
But I was thinking- what if later in the future I need to change this- I could send out an email to the users to open a form I created and they could change the IP. So I created a form, and I can write this IP to an .ini file my app uses to hold some other data.
When the app pulls anything from the .ini file, it calls the loadSettingsFile()
Public Sub loadSettingsFile()
If File.Exists(mySettingsFile) Then
Dim arFileLines() As String = IO.File.ReadAllLines(mySettingsFile)
[Code].....
how can I write that string above (urlMySQLDatabase1) to use the IP that's written in the .ini file and not always hard coded?

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to use the DHCP API (using the references on pinvoke.net) to retrieve a computer's MAC address when given the IP address but I can't get the code to work. I've run all the C# code on pinvoke.net through the C#-to-VB converter but I'm stuck now.
Here's what I have so far. The value of res is always 5 (should be 0). Thing is, I can't find any documentation on what the return codes mean
vb
Private Sub GetMACDim client As String = "1.1.1.1" Dim server As String = "0.0.0.0" Dim si As New NativeMethods.DHCP_SEARCH_INFO si.SearchType = NativeMethods.DHCP_SEARCH_INFO_TYPE.DhcpClientIpAddress si.ClientIpAddress = Convert.ToUInt32(StringIPAddressToUint32(client)) Dim res As UInteger Dim oInfo As IntPtr

The part of the program I'm trying to write is supposed to take the users input, which is their name, and in a listbox spit out their initials. I have so far:
Dim initials As String
Dim indexspace As Integer
initials = name.Substring(0, 1)
indexspace = name.IndexOf(" ")
lstInvoice.Items.Add(String.Format(strFormat, "Invoice ID", initials & space))
When I run the program, I can get the first initial to pop up, but I am not certain how to get the second to pop up.
