Is there an easy way to get the "Last saved by" information from the file statistics? FileInfo doesn't have it, and I have searched and found DSOFile, but it seems that is only for office documents.

I created a connection between sql server and the form using visual basic as language. I have a button to save the patient information. View 3 RepliesI am using VB2005 and trying to put an application together.What it needs to do is retrieve information from a binary file, possibly alter that information, and put it back into a new file.The file is a .wav file with data appened to the end. There is an additional section at the end of the .wav file which stores xml data.I have found that if I open this in a hex editor and make a 1:1 swap on any of the bytes that the application that the file is for can still read the XML.If I tried to add or remove characters from the XML then it would not read. I located a header byte and incremented it to resolve this.
This worked as an excellent bandage to do conversions where the data always needed to be changed to the same thing.What I have been asked to do is build logic that allows for different things to happen depending upon what data is contained within the file.The method that I am currently trying to impliment is:
Read through the file with a system.io.binaryreader
Searche for a bytestream that will signal data is coming
For example:
If System.IO.File.Exists("C: est estread.wav") Then
Dim findit() As Integer = New Integer() {&H3C, &H55, &H73, &H72, &H44, &H65, &H66, &H30, &H31, &H30}

And then extract all the data till the end of element marker "<" It seemed like there should be a better way and I was looking for some insight. If I proceed with this method, I will have to read the file one time to gather the information and then a second time to write it all out with the header modified for length.This is my first experiene with working with binary files in this way.Also,I've been experiementing with building a string and slapping it back in at the end using the binarywriter.write(string) method.I noticed that it was putting in header characters before the string.These seem to change if I change the length of the string.At one point it was d0 07. Later it became e7 07. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this header from being inserted?
I tried a for each loop to grab all of the characters from the string, convert them to a byte array and deposit the byte array into the file, but the header remained the same. When I write the byte array generated from a system.io.binaryreader I do not get this header.
I decided on a comma separated data file, saved as a text file. This is for data that will not change. After loading the data from the text file; then throughout the lifetime of the program the data can change. The data can then be saved back to a different binary file. The idea is to have a save state system going.Does anyone have a suggestion or is opposed to the idea. Is there a simpler way to organize something like this?

I'm a novice that has developed a data processing application for which statistics regarding the processing status are recorded in the application window. All works well until an arbitrary point at which the statistical upates to the window cease. When the application finishes, then the application window properly displays the final results. However, intermediate to the completion of the application, all updates to the status window are suspended. Can you please inform me of the means by which I can continue to display the status updates when other activities appear to interrupt the updates prior to completion?

View 5 RepliesI am trying to copy a file from one location to other by clicking on a link label.the original file is saved at "D:\New Folder\" and the complete address of the file is stored on the link label.whenever i click on the click label, a form appears with three button Open, Save as, and cancel file is opening normally but when i click on save as , save as dialog box appears normally, but after entering the file name when i click on save button, file is saved on the destination but without any extension.

I've made a small XML file in the VS2010 project with 1 class stats and made a list to 10 levels (to lazy atm to write all 85).

On the Form1.vb I've to combo boxes, 1 to display class names and 1 for levels.
Also have some Labels to display i.e. the base_STR number. But after trying random stuff to get it linked and closed VB to restart again because it was messed up too much
I have a button which when clicked, saves an image of any format from a picture box to a file.I have tried to come up with a code which can open the same file and delete any selected image but to no success.
View 6 RepliesI have my datagridview being loaded from a Text File and then being saved to a text file as a comma separated file - the commas obviously separate the columns. However in some of the cells prior to saving, I have data that i have inputted over two lines by pressing shift + return.
E.g.
"SOLD
10/05/2012"
This saves fine, but obviously shows up in the text file as a line break, which then causes some issues when I choose to re open the info back into DGV. How I can code so that it saves as a line break within a cell, rather than a completely new line.

this will work fine the first time this scheduled task runs and there are no existing files but at the end of 1 week when I will be overwriting the existing files, how do I tell the application to overwrite the existing files without waiting on a yes prompt from me which it does in debug mode?

I develop a web browser. It has a settings feature where you can change the homepage and some other options and it has bookmarks. Well, if you rename the file, then all of these settings are erased and reset to the defaults. How can I make this where all these settings are included no matter if moving, renaming, etc.?
