View 3 Repliesi want to create a listbox in which a user introduces a name (Ex Item1) I also want to user to insert a comment in the shape of a string ( Ex. Item1 was added yesterday) and link it somehow to his Item1.
Once the program starts the user should be able to insert an item in the listbox with a comment; and once he selects the item i want a MsgBox appearing with the comment of the specific Item, that he also inserted.
Think something like a book library using a listbox.You go and browse books in a listbox and once you click on them they display on the right the cover of the book, the authors, date, ratings etc.I just need to know how to link a ListBoxItem to do something, and i want the Library administrator to do it in runtime.The MsgBox example should do it for me.
If my Category and Forum selection is incorrect I am sorry and feel free to move it. I'd like to have the users input in the message box that will show. For example: There is a textbox and the user puts in their name as Bob. Then the message box would be: What my main goal is, is being able to include the users input they type inside the textbox inside the message box.
View 6 RepliesI created a sql stored procedure that will insert data for me depending on user input. Now I would like to know usually I would do something of this nature
Dim con As New SqlConnection(connectionString)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("usp_userinput", con) 'references connectionstring and calls store procedure
cmd.CommandType = Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure 'sets default to be storeprocedure
lblMessage.Text = String.Empty
With cmd.Parameters
If (Session("UserInitials")) IsNot Nothing Then
.AddWithValue("@UserInitials", Session("UserInitials").ToString())
End If
End With
That is just an example how i usually approach calling the stored procedure in vb. However for this particular form I am going to have 50 or 60 textboxes which each one would require a session state variable.Seems a little tedious to have to create a session state variable for each textbox on the form.
How can I get my app. to remember the text that was enterd into a TextBox by a user?

View 2 RepliesI am using VS2005 version of VB.Net programmer. I wanted to use the user input but most people tell me to use console...but I cannot use this function since my version is different, it will not show any results. I found that using mask textbox can use to read the user input but I don't know how the code can be written. I want user to input two number such as 1.345 and 2.355 and use this number for addition and give the answer. I not sure how I write the code for mask textbox to be read once user input the numbers.
View 1 RepliesPreferably without turning the "Enabled" property to false, because I still need to output text from it.
I made a custom control in which there is a textbox but I want it used only as an output control, for showing text and stuff. Problem is that as soon as my form opens up the focus is turned to the textbox and I cannot catch my keyboard events on the form anymore(since the other controls are pictureboxes). I need a way to make this box "unclickable" or any way in which it is impossible to attribute the focus.[url]...
I'm trying to make a program where user can input data from a textbox into an array and when the user hit the enter key, it compare it to a data grab from a text file. Here is my code so far:
Private Sub TextBox_KeyDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox.TextChanged
Dim input As String

View 6 RepliesI want to create a button that calls a preset cmd line like

I have a form, with lables and textboxes added at runtime. The labels and textboxes are added properly on form load and display as expected. The form allows tabing into each of the textboxes, but the textbox does not allow user input.
Is this a problem with the way I show the form to the user? >> this particular form is called (frmname.show) from a different form -- If I test this form directly, without being called from a different form, it allows user input in the textboxes. Is it because of the properties I used to create the textbox? >> properties used were - .name, .size, .location, .tag
I am trying to create a vb.net program that will ask a user to input a beginning date and ending date within two textboxes. I want to use these dates that they inputed in a stored procedure that I created to run a query that will return results based on those dates.
Here is my current SQL Script.
SET NOCOUNT ON
DECLARE @DBNAME NVARCHAR(MAX)
DECLARE @DBNAME1 NVARCHAR(MAX)
[Code].....
Private Sub TrackBar1_ValueChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
Handles Trackbar.ValueChanged
txtYears.Text = Trackbar.Value
End Sub
This is the code for the trackbar. At the moment as the user moves the trackbar it inserts the value into the textbox. I want this to work in reverse also. user inputs value into text box, trackbar moves.
I know it is possible as my professors program does this.
How do I code in vb.net that the text box can only accept 10 inputs from the user. User can only enter 10 strings.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to write vb code to verify a password input by a user to known table passwords in access database. The form has a drop down combo box that has userID's that are selectable. I'm trying to get the index number out of the combo box selection and use that to look up what the password should be. With that information i can then compare the stored password with the password typed into the text box below the combo box. All of the examples i've found that direct me show the code in regular Visual Basic. I'm using Visual Basic 2010 with the .net architecture.
View 3 RepliesI've been working on an application for awhile that, basically, allows the viewing and printing of a maintenance database. It allows the user to view basic information for the object and then view the maintenance history. My approach for the maintenance history is simply to have unique tables per object since a history has to be kept for each, however, I'm running into a problem in the application that allows the user to view the general information from one DB and the Maintenance history from the other DB.
Say you have Object ID BG1. I can enter the object ID into a search field, pull the data from the general DB and display the data, but I also need it to pull the information from the maintenance history and display. If maintenance history for this object is not found, then create a new table within the DB, fill the columns with the required fields and allow for the user to edit the history.
I have written a program that has a form called AddMembers. it is supposed to get users input from textboxes and write them to an access database. but I am getting an error message Argument not specified for parameter. Also my results are not sent to the database. I have attached both the zip program and also the database.
View 9 RepliesI am trying to develop a simple math calculator that will allow the user to input the right-hand-side (RHS) of an equation into a textbox on the application and have the application evaluate the expression for a given value of x, which is also input
into the application by the user via another textbox.For example, if the user wants to evaluate the following expression,
y = 3 + 4*x + 5*x^2
then they would input into the textbox the RHS of the equation
3 + 4*x + 5*x^2
and then enter a value of x into the another textbox and click on the calculate button.I tried this:
answer = EquationTextBox.Text
but it doesn't work.

I have the following code, which its aim is only to insert a row formed by 4 fields (textBox) in the DB. The database is created by Access.
Private Sub Insert_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Insert.Click
Dim connectionString As String
connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:Documents and Settings
obertoMis documentosVisual Studio 2008ProjectsDiccionarioDiccionarioDiccionario.mdb"
Dim dicDataSet As New DictionaryDataSet1()
[Code] .....
But unfortunately it doesn't run, when I debug, the code passed through all the lines without problem, but it doesn't insert the row in the DataTable. One curious thing is that when I run the application the database which remained connected It disconnects automatically, and I don't know why.
