Copy The Database File By Giving The Reference Of The Config.Appsettings?

Apr 21, 2011

I have built a functionality where I want to back up the database - [Access]. Currently, its working but the user has to specify the file. I used a FileOpenDialog Box to get the file, saved it in a textbox and copied it to another directory. That works good. What I want now is the user doesnt have to know the lcoation of the Database. So, I just want to copy the Database File using the Configuration.Appsettings. He can specify the directory the file needs to be copied to. The Access DB is referenced as follows:

<connectionStrings>
<add name="TestCMS.My.MySettings.CMSConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|CMS.mdb"
providerName="System.Data.OleDb" />
</connectionStrings>

Windows7: Writing A Text File Giving Access Denied?

Nov 28, 2010

I've been doing some more experiments and have summarized the query as below: I've created the simplest application. A project with a plain form, which writes text file within its application directory. Simple as that.Supposing this was my application which I want to distribute on the world web. I've created a basic installer for this using NSIS installer. The Installer installs my application in a folder created inside Program Files. The OS is Windows7 and UAC is enabled.Now I know many people have been facing difficulties in accessing files inside the Program Files folder. My app is simply creating a plain text file, nothing more, and within its own application directory. It is giving Access Denied error. But if I right-click on the EXE and run it as Administrator, then it works ok.The only solution thats available is not to write in the application folder, and write text file in some other folder which is not protected. My question is that other programs that are installed on my system are also doing it. I have a temperature monitoring software called SpeedFan on my system, it creates log files within its app directory. All other softwares create log files within their app directories, why cant I?I just have to make a small log file for my application and Win7+UAC is not letting me do it. I don't want to write the small file in any other folder. How are the other softwares accomplishing this ?

Install Microsoft FlexGrid Control 6.0 On A Computer Without VS 6.0?

My VB.NET application uses Microsoft Flex Grid Control 6.0. This is a legacy application which has been ported from VB6 with the Visual Studio conversion wizard. Although I can compile the assembly, I get a COMException because some class is not registered. I've found out that this class is the Microsoft Flex Grid Control 6.0.

Where can I find the control and how can I register it on machines so that the application will run?

C# - WebBrowser Control: Disable Cross Site XSS Filtering Or Another Way To Process JS In Full On HTML?

Jun 25, 2011

I am trying to use my web browser control to get retrieve date from a specific page, including all sub-page content. Problem is some of the sub-pages are on a separate domain and thus I am getting a permission deigned error when i try to access the frame [through document.windows.frames(i).document].Is there any work around to do this, even if I have to manually change security settings? I tried turning all my settings in IE to allow and still same error. I will only be running the app locally and no one will be browsing on IE so I can literally change anything needed to get this to work (even install older version of IE which may allow it but can still handle JS processing).

Note the reason I am using web browser is a great majority of data I will be accessing is JS generated, so I need to access the DOM after JS processed / generated the HTML. Because of this, simply using SOCKETS to get the HTML is really not an option. Even if I had the HTML, I still need some type of engine to process all of the DOM elements based off javascript.

File I/O And Registry :: Publishing Access File And Then Referencing After Install?

Apr 28, 2010

i have a problem where i've hard coded the file path of an access database i'm using with a VB.net program. this means that if i publish the program the database doesn't publish with it and i have to "ship" the program with the the database file separately and create another form so the user can say where the file is held. i don't want to do this.is there any way to get the access database file to publish with the program and then access that file path by code? for example the database file is held in the same folder as the installed program and then is accessed by code so there is no need to use a specific file path.

Get Full File Path To My Assembly?

Oct 8, 2009

How do I get the full file system path to my DLL? I have found a number of calls/properties for "Name", "FullName" etc. The closest I have come is to call Me.GetType().Module.Assembly.GetName().CodeBase. But that string has stuff appended to the front of the actual filename. Plus I don't know if a codebase is always available (say if I don't do "regasm /codebase" on my assembly.I simply want something like "c: empmyproject.dll". That is, what GetModuleFileName would return. Surely I don't have to call Marshal.GetHINSTANCE(Me.GetType().Module).ToInt32()) and then directly invoke the Windows GetModuleFilename API for something so basic.ps. I always wonder why there is an "Alert me" check box at the bottom of the post page. Never been alerted although it is always checked (my profile has my e-mail address).
