Import Or Create An Outlook 2003 Rule (.rwz) With VSTO 2005?

Jul 29, 2009

I would like to automatically create an Outlook rule (move email containing something in subject to folder xyz) but dont know how to achieve this. Of course I can create the rule and export it to a .rwz file. This file can be imported manually, but how can I import it automatically?

Can I import a rule through my VSTO 2005 Outlook (2003) Addin? Or can I create the rule from within this addin?

I'm trying to write a rule to compensate for laziness caused by program changes. Used to be, case numbers for family law cases where I work were written as follows: 12-DR-012345. Now, you can get away with 12DR12345, and the file management program accepts it.

Trying To Use 2008 Express To Export Outlook 2000 & Outlook 2003 Address Contacts Into Excel Or CSV File

Apr 20, 2009

I work for a somewhat large company. There are about 160 Windows XP Pro users. We are still using Microsoft Office 2000 for the most part.We have upgraded some users to Office 2003. We are not using Microsoft Exchange.I have to export every users' Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2003 Contacts into an Excel or CSV file every 6 months as a way of backing the Outlook Address Contacts.Currently I am doing this by physically going to every pc and manually exporting the contacts. This is a large pain.I am trying to find out if I can use or create a Visual Basic 2008 Express program or script that will export the contacts from Outlook and save it as an Excel or CSV file. The name of the file should be the same as the computers net name.It should be saved in the same location, on the network, each time.I am new to programming and new to VB 2008 Express.I do not know or have any code to start with.

Office 2007/2003 VSTO Shared Add-In Design Query

Apr 29, 2009

I am designing a shared add-in using VB.Net 2008 and VSTO that has to fire up when any MS Office App is started. It has to work for both 2002, 2003 and 2007 applications. I have managed to put together a working add-in that pops up a test message stating the version of Office and the Application name and tested this across all the apps ok.

The next part of the solution is to code the application specific code that needs to run for document auditing and corporate protective marking as well as, for example; in Excel checking that all the Add-Ins are linked to the Network Add-Ins folder.

My approach from now was going to be to late bind against the application object and set one of my typed (e.g. Excel) application object references which exist in the code to this object.

Architecture - Apply The Correct Data From The GUI To The Parameters For The Rule And Execute The Rule

Apr 6, 2011

I have a very simple Business Rules Engine that has only three methods. One gets all the rules for the current operation, one will retrieve a list of parameters for the rules, the last applies the rules. The rules are stored in the database as user defined functions using parameters. The client will call the BRE pass in the operation and a Lot Number and the BRE checks for any rules that apply to this operation for this Lot. The client gets a list of rules that apply (the names of the corresponding UDF's in the database) and at which step in the operation the rule applies. When the material gets to a step that has a rule, it calls BRE to get parameters for the UDF for that operation, fills in the parameters with data contained in the GUI and calls the BRE to apply the rule with this lot's specific data. Multiple lots can share the same rule that is why there are parameters for the UDF. This all works well. However, this is assuming we have a set number of rules for each lot at each operation. If the lot needs a new rule applied at this operation we have to add a new rule and corresponding UDF into the BRE database. This is not a problem, the client will now see two rules, however, it only knows how to apply the parameters for the first rule, and there is no code for applying the parameters for the second rule.

For example: Rule 1 states that only the same Lot number items can be put into a carton. So the UDF expects one parameter called LotID and one parameter called Carton ID. It runs the rule (UDF) with these parameters and checks to ensure the lots match. Now the Lot requires a second rule: Only 25 items can be packed in the carton. We create a new rule and corresponding UDF, but this rule has the CartonID and a quantity associated with it.

The GUI can handle Rule 1 because it knows how to apply the correct data from the GUI to the parameters for the Rule and execute the rule, so LotID from the GUI = LotID in the parameter name in the UDF and CartonID from the GUI = CartonID parameter name in the UDF. Now there is a new rule, the GUI sees this new rule, gets the parameters, but has no way to applying the quantity to the new parameter to execute the rule without having to change the GUI. We don't expect there to be many rule changes, however, when they do occur we don't want to have to recompile the GUI every time. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to create a class that could determine the how to apply set the correct parameters? We have thought about a table in a database that maps the parameter names in the UDF with parameter names in the GUI so when we add a new UDF we update the table with the corresponding data from the GUI. That could work but may get cumbersome and would require us to make sure that, that table is kept current. Another suggestion was to name the parameters in the UDF the same as the parameters in the GUI, but this too, would require us to maintain the names in two locations.

Integration Between The App And Outlook (2003)?

Feb 6, 2012

I have a VB6 app migrated to VB.NET / VS2010 currently under test. Issue is with integration between the app and Outlook (2003). In summary the app opens an Outlook Explorer window to let the user view a calendar and update appointment items, any changes made are validated and if OK written to a db.

There are two methods here, one handles event Item_Change and does the validation / updates, the other handles Explorer_Close and tidies up all the Outlook objects. There is a condition in the Item_Change method ("If rs.RecordCount = 0 Then") which if detected needs the Outlook Explorer to be closed programmatically.

Saving Non-VSTO Copy Of VSTO Workbook

Sep 1, 2009

I am trying to save a ListObject from a .NET 3.5 Excel 2007 VSTO Workbook to a new sheet (done) and save that new sheet to a new workbook (done) without that workbook requiring the VSTO customization file (!!!!!).

Has anyone had any luck with this? The only way I've had any success is just saving as a CSV file but that's not exactly acceptable in this case. I'd rather not save to a CSV just to copy back to a XLS file.

Referencing Outlook - Import A Reference On The COM Tab?

Apr 14, 2009

I have a program that has a button with text of "Email". When the user clicks this button I would like my application to check to see if the user has Microsoft Outlook installed on their system, and, if so, to open it up with the email address populated from a field within my form.I'm having several problems.I just basically don't know where to begin.I've searched the internet some, but couldn't find much that begins where I need to begin.Firstly, I _don't_ have Outlook installed on my computer that I am developing the application from. This is probably why, when I go to Import a Reference on the COM tab, that I cannot find the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook item. Then, based on what I have read elsewhere, I would do the following:

Dim objOutlook As Outlook.Application

But then I'm not quite sure the code to call up Outlook, although I bet I could find it if I could just get over that first hurdle.

We are curious if Outlook 2003 just ignores this?Does Outlook 2007 act differently? We have situations where an event may change or be cancelled which fires off an email notification but the updated ical just adds a new event, it nevers deletes and or moves the original.

VS 2003 To 2005 Textbox Array

Aug 11, 2009

I have an application that basicly collects a lot of information on a form, with 5 seperate tabs, prior to outputting this to a text file. Currently the forms are not dynamic in that they contain all the possible texboxes and just hide or show them depending upon choices made. The data is gathered by a function that creates an array of texboxes requiring processing, array being created would seem to correspond to a single line that is being output. The array is moved through item by item and the data gathered then output as a line in the text file. This is repeated for the 80 odd lines. Now a couple of questions, is this the best way to do this?

VS 2005 Outlook - Forward An Email

Feb 4, 2011

I'm having trouble coding some new items into a program of mine. The program loops through you Inbox looking for emails that are UNREAD and have a certain subject line. The subject line in this case, is going to search for: "FAX TO: ###########" (actually, it just searches for FAX TO). Next step, I need the selected email to be FORWARDED to the fax number in the subject line - including attachments. In my code - I've already got the message selected - but I can't figure out how to programmatically forward it? I need explicit code help with the following:

1) Check to make sure there are 10 digits in the original subject line. If not - bail out and ignore that message.

2) Trim the subject line and save the phone number to a string

3) Forward the message (plus attachments) to the [URL]

I'm assuming I'll need to create a new Outlook.MailItem, but I'm not sure if I need to. Is there just some code I'm missing so I don't have to COPY the contents of the current MailItem to a new one.
