Aug 2, 2011I have a variable defined as follows:Dim iRows As List(Of String())I've also been converting that to a list of lists just to make it easier to work with.Dim iRows As List(Of IList(Of String))I would like to bind that list to a GridView using the contents of the nested array/list to dynamically define the columns. I don't know ahead of time how many columns there will be, but I do know that they are all the same throughout the list.

Explain what the lines of code above are doing? i'm more interested in the first line as the method it is written in exits when it hits that line, so apparently the variable oXML isn't being set. i know that oXML is supposed to be set to some kind of COM object but can you explain the "Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0" part a bit more? what is that, where is that, and what will it look like in .NET (this code is a classic asp)? i don't know what the second line of code above is either but the method never even reaches it so if you have any ideas about what that is doing would be great too.

Feb 20, 2012I'm getting familiar now with using the Dataset Designer and how it makes for quick and easy updates and query of tables. I use to use the OleDB commands and leave the Connection String as a Global Constant so I can easily change it if the server name changes, or if we have to re-direct the .NET to another instance of the database.
But now that I use the Dataset designer I'm concerned that I maintain flexibility and support in the long run. how the Dataset designer works and where it stores it's connection string info? And how difficult that would be to update. It looks like I modify the App.config file, but I'm unfamiliar with this.
What am I getting myself into? It looks like a standard XML file. Is that it?
MSDN Articles Should Include VB Code?
Apr 27, 2012With all new technologies like Async/Await I spent hours rewriting sample code from the published C# MSDN Articles to VB.NET.Now that Roslyn is available, why do the authors not inlude the VB.NET code. After all, it can be converted automatically. Why does MSFT not make this a requirement fo all published MSDN articles.This would save us VB.NETs lots of precious time.

Getting The Dynamic Code Execution?
Aug 23, 2010i'm building a basic server program that I want to recieve commands and execute them sent from a client program and I'm using my home network to test it out. I've got no problem with the communication between the client and server programs and have used a simple Send Text function to communicate to the server program which simply brings up whatever text was sent in a message box.
I've decided that constantly updating the program and transferring the new EXE file just doesnt work as I have to keep starting and stopping the server program to do that just to update the list of commands it recieves. So say for example I've got a button on my client program that tells the server to open the cd-rom draw on that computer, it sends this in the form of simple text openCDdraw" and when the server recieves this, it pops open the cd draw and so on and so on... but I thought a better way of doing this may be to say have the commands listed in a SQL database and when the server recieves a message it searches through the database to find the correct command and executes the code associated with the command.
Now I can retrieve the information fine in to a string variable ("Dim a as string, a = dr.getvalue(3)") but where do I go for there? This is the problem see. My apologies if I've gone a bit long winded on this one but thought it necessary to explain what I'm doing. I've heard of dynamic code execution but when I tried a project I found on the internet it had been coded in C# and I don't know any C nor do I want to as I'm a VB veteran and have updated myself with the way of .NET now so am not going to start all over again with learning C. Does anyone know of an easier way of doing this? Static code is so easy to do because it is typed straight into the coding sections and I had already thought about creating loads of subs/functions to execute each command but again that involves updating the EXE file every time so there must be a better and easier way of doing it.
Can I also just point out that this little project i'm working on is not for a TROJAN or whatever that old NETBUS program used to be called, it is simply so I know how to do it and can use it for other things that I'm working on and through. Also I'd just like to know how to retrieve and execute code from a database or text file.
Code For Dynamic Control Events?
May 3, 2011I have never dealt with dynamic control events before. I have a variable number of a controls each created at runtime. However I don't know how to code events for each control as they should do different things. I've looked at WithEvents and AddHandler and know I have to use Sender however not sure how to use /where to put eg. MouseEnter 1 panel when there's several.

With the current Regex I am able to grab the value but it also grabs all the "src" elements on the page.

What I am attempting to do is to only get this one line that includes the
<script and then the src="">
And then just get the src="info from hrere" How can I edit the current regex code to include <script type="text/javascript"

Jan 26, 2010I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?

I need to be able to Edit the recordset in a gridview, unfortunatly, the DataGrid in VB.Net only seems to work with ADO.NET.I am not in a position to redesign the application to use ADO.NET, much of the database code was converted from an old VB6 application. Is there any way to either convert back and forth between a recordset and RecordSource so that I can use the dataset that I already have, or is there a classic ADO datagrid that is compatible with VB.NET.
