Array Of Labels - Converting String Into Object
Apr 2, 2012So, I'm creating an array of labels. I have labels set up as:
labal1
label2
label3
etc...
I've declared the array as such:
Dim labelArray(5) As Label
Now, instead of assigning the labels one by one to the array (labelArray(0) = label1, labelArray(1) = label2, etc...), I was hoping to use a loop (there will be more than 5 labels). I have something like this, which obviously doesn't quite work:
For i = 0 To labelArray(i) = "label" & i Next
Is there a function that I can use to convert the labelName string to an object, or have vb.net see that as an object instead of a string?
Why Is List.add() Adding Items To Object AND Source Object As Well
Jun 15, 2011I need to be able to add elements to a copy of mylist.testlist without modifying the global mylist object. (Which seems to be happening via the below code.)When I am working on x, which should be a totally separate object, mylist is getting modified as well. How can I fix this? I have worked with lists extensively and never seen this behavior before. I have tested and reproduced the problem in .NET 3.5 and .NET 4.0 on Win 7 Pro 32bit.

Instruct VB To Save These Values In The Text Property Of The Labels So That The Next Time The Program Is Loaded The Labels?
Oct 21, 2008I created a program that has serval labels on a form and a listview object. It has a button that when clicked reads a textfile and loads up values in the listview object. I then can click and drag text from the listview box to any label on the form and then the program removes the value from the listview box. Now, my question is how can I instruct VB to save these values in the text property of the labels so that the next time the program is loaded the labels will contain the values loaded during the last run time session?

Jun 1, 2012Well im currently developing an application for public use, I have a login screen in which the user enter's their registered credential's and the progressbar loads by increments of 3, now i placed 6 labels ontop of eachother and where the progressbar coding is i put:
If Progressbar.Value >= 1 Then
Label3.Show()
If Progressbar.Value >= 20 Then
Label3.Hide()
Label4.show()
And so on up until Label8 Show at 100%,
Now the problem is... As i have placed the labels ontop of eachother i need them hidden until they are called to show, i have tried adding a background worker to do this but have had no luck, all i see is the labels overlapping eachother when i run my application when i want them hidden untill Label3.Show() is called, and then to display them as they are called and hide them when another one is called to show...
Project - Add And Resize The Labels - Create Scrolling Labels ?
Feb 5, 2009With VB, but I've got the few basics down, file naming, adding objects, naming objetcs, etc. But the reason I'm on here is because I cannot complete even the first step. Our form is 640 X 480, and we need to have two labels, both have vertical scrolls. I know how to add and resize the labels to meet my needs, but I do not know how to create scrolling labels. Or are they text boxes? On our bubble chart (Do you know what that means?) it says lblInformation. We are going to have clickable radio buttons which will update the lblInformation with info about each of the radio buttons.

Apr 19, 2012I'm trying to make a program that allows the user to click on labels which have a number in it and then that value has to be stored into a different label.
For example the user click on label1 and the values goes into label12, then it click on label3 and the values goes to label13 and so on.
At the moment I can only code on the respective label underneath (1->12,2->13...) but it has to be in any order (5->12,7->13...)

Accessing Items In List Of Object?
Nov 6, 2011I have created a list of another class and loaded the list with data. using breakpoints I can see that the data is loading and visible in my form page. However, when I attempt to access the list using a For Each loop, I get an error saying that "Value of type Customer can not be converted to Integer"I am trying to follow examples from tutorials on accessing list elements, but they are never lists of objects, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Adding Items To A List (of Object)?
Mar 28, 2010I have some code that adds items to a List(of Object).
Here's my original code
Dim BeaconStoryList as New List(Of My.StoryType)
Dim BeaconStory as New My.StoryType
Dim NewStories() as New Foriegn.StoryType = GetStories

But as soon as the code assigned "Chicken" to BeaconStory.Title, then BeaconStoryList(0).Title would also change to "Chicken".
With my second version of the code this did not happen.
It's as though it was placing pointers into the elements of the array rather than values. If that is the case, however, then why does my second version of the code work - I'm still passing in the same thing - aren't I?
Intellisense On Items Declared As 'Object'?
Oct 10, 2010I have a shared Queue that I use to dump various messages contained in different Classes, so I have its type as Object.The prob is, the messages are dequeued and processed but since the message type vary, Intellisense doesn't show the classes properties or methods. How does one find get Intellisense to work to?

Sep 25, 2009I have reached a situation where it probably makes more sense to pass custom Update and Insert commands to a CommandBuilder. I see that this can be done, but I have not found an example of how. The problem that I run into is this: The CommandBuilder iterates through the rows calling the Update or Insert command as needed. Writing the SQL for those would require accessing the items in the row. How does the CommandBuilder insert the row fields into the SQL? If I were doing it myself, I would be doing something like:
For Each DR as Datarow in Datatable
which would allow me to access the items through the DR object. What does the CommandBuilder expose for custom SQL to access the items in the row?

Zombie Object - Communicates With OPC Server - Value Of A Certain OPC Item Changes - Logs All OPC Items To A Database
Jul 13, 2010In my application, I've built an object that communicates with an OPC server and whenever the value of a certain OPC item changes, it logs all the OPC items to a database. This all works beautifully. However, I'm having a problem with disposing of the instances of this class. Whenever I want to remove an instance of this class from the application, I'm dereferencing the object (objDevice = Nothing) and letting GC take care of the rest. I've inserted breakpoints and am monitoring to ensure that the object is dereferenced (it is).
Problem is, even after the object has been dereferenced and is CONFIRMED to be equal to Nothing, the object is still logging data to the database. I'm still trying to get a handle on disposing of objects properly, but most everything I read tells me to dereference and let Garbage Collection take over.

Jul 10, 2010I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object. My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:
newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class
flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class

Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class. This is before I open a project and visual studio is on the start page. The 'duplicates' do not go away even when a project is open.When project is open, Solution explorer displays duplicate images as well

However the AndAlso should short circuit in the case where the item is not a ToolStripMenuItem and it doesn't seem to be doing so (as TypeOf xItem Is ToolStripMenuItem=false in this case)?
