Keep Count Of Files Like File0.txt - File1.txt - File2.txt - File3.txt?
Mar 22, 2011
This time I would like to ask you how to keep count of files, without keeping count of them Let's say that in my folder I have file0.txt and file1.txt, next file I would like to write is file2.txt. I would open file file1.txt and save it as a successor (file2.txt).

I have made a program with 2 files, say (file1 and file2). Here I need to make an object of file2 in file1 where I need help from file2. And file2 needs the display text from file1 again to execute the enquiry. So I made an object of file1 in file2 to get the content in display text. But I get stack overflow exception when compiling. I do somehow understand why I get this information. But how do I solve this problem. I thought if I made this display variable to be public, I might reach it from file2. But I couldn't get the content.

From a VB3 program, the user could select an old game from a list. The list was read from a subdirectory by using a FileListBox Since the file extensions were extraneous to the user, I read them from the FileListBox by using:

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data. But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

How would I go about counting specfic files in a given folder?I have for instance these files; 6-11715.jpg ,6-11715_1.jpg, 6-11715_2.jpg, 6-11715_3.jpg, 6-11715_4.jpg, 6-11715_5.jpg, 6-11715_6.jpg.
I want to be able to show the first picture then using a next button load the second picture and so on. When I get to the last picture I will repeat the process.
I'm thinking I need to count the files first based on the left string of the name to get the total number. then based on the number I can pull the fill with the file name change accordingly.

I have a few questions about the following 1.What purpose does the first line of MSDN example serve? ystem.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String) Why use this? I tried reading about it on msdn, but i couldnt make much of it.
2. Why use CStr in the msgbox? For me it works fine without it with Strict on. am i missing something?
3. Am i making a mistake using my own version over MSDN example? I dont like using code that i cant understand, which is why i changed it in the first place.

I'm trying to figure the best way to verify the contents of a folder based on another count via a listbox. Here is my current code to count the number of PDFs in two different locations and total them together for a grand total.
'counts test1 pdfs
Dim f As String, c As Long
[code]....
I have another process before this that will create the PDF's based on the files listed in the listbox. What I am having trouble with is verifying that the PDFs that are created in the Test1 and Test2 folders equal the counts from the listboxes. This count needs to match before running the next process. I'm kind looking for wait or loop until both counts match, again before running the next process.

I am working with VB 2008. I want to be able to run this program say in N: and it will show me in an excel sheet the following:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
where clients contains subfolders and files and the size is the total of all those files within each folder and the count is the total within each folder also.
This works fine as it is but i have to select one by one the top level folders and some of them are huge so it takes forever to give me an answer.
1) I would like to see in my spreadsheet the following by only select the network drive n:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
N:Software 10.7 15430
N:Billing 0.98 105
2) I would also like to know if this is the faster method.
3) I tried adding a progress bar so that the user can have an idea of how much this will take but i had to remove because it was not working.
4) I would like to see the folder name, size of folder and count of files in the listview.
Here is the code:
Imports Microsoft
Imports Microsoft.Win32
Imports Microsoft.Win32.Registry
Imports System.Collections
[code].....

I have some reports that I use with the MS ReportViewer and I need to get a count of the physical pages (as opposed to logical page count) to use with a print dialog. I've implemented a workaround so the ReportViewer control displays the correct number of physical pages, but is there a way to get that value from the ReportViewer control? The only publicly accessible property gives the logical page count.

designing a Windows based computer program that will allow a user to enter some number (n) and a choice of a count up or count down for that many numbers. So for example, the user enters 5 as their number and selects the count down option, the message box displayed would contain the message: "Here are your numbers: 5,4,3,2,1,0"

Declare some class level variables that will keep track of the sums for each column. For example:
[Code]....
During the RowDataBound event, retrieve the data from each column and add it to the appropriate sum. I'm not sure if you are developing an ASP.NET application or a Win-forms desktop application so I cannot help you any further at this point. What have you tried so far to solve the problem?

I have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage. The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)
So, here goes nothing, this is the Query code I am using in PHP to complete the job I want to do in VB.NET. [code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. Once counted to be 1, the Activation Code and Status will be fed into 2 other text boxes in the form. (acCode, and acStatus).

This is not useful, but:If you like Mayan culture,This code convert an integer in Mayan numericals
It can convert in the "Normal Count" system and in the "Long Count" system. In the Normal Count", every glyph is a power of 20, with the most significant on top and the less significant at the bottom
The "Long Count" system was used in Calendar. In the "Long count", every glyph is a power of 20 except the third glyph from the bottom, which is a multiple of 360. This was done because the years were, at the begining of the Mayan culture, estimated to be 360 days.Since I couldn't find a Mayan font, the function returns a bitmap that contains the drawing of the glyphs that represent the mayan numerical

I'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.
I have this at the moment:
Sub Import()
Dim db As Database
Set db = CurrentDb

i have an old VB6 system that generates plain text files. When this old system writes "A" into the file, it writes (hex) "41". For an "ä" (a-umlaut, special gernam character), it writes (hex) "E4".
Now i have to process files like this in VB.Net. when i open such a file in the IDE, it displays correctly "ä" (But not always!). To see what i mean, please open a notepad and create a new file "ae.txt" with content: äöü. Now your file contains exactly 3 bytes: (hex) E4 F6 FC.
But when i write code like
Dim strTest As String
strTest = File.ReadAllText("ae.txt")
Debug.Print(InStr(strTest, "ä"))
i get 0 - so i cannot find back the "ä" - what do i need to do, to find it? And 2) for compatibility reasons, i have also to be able to create such files. How to do that? Seems the different encoding types do not work as i think.
