Oct 31, 2009I have a few questions about the following 1.What purpose does the first line of MSDN example serve? ystem.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String) Why use this? I tried reading about it on msdn, but i couldnt make much of it.
2. Why use CStr in the msgbox? For me it works fine without it with Strict on. am i missing something?
3. Am i making a mistake using my own version over MSDN example? I dont like using code that i cant understand, which is why i changed it in the first place.

Aug 18, 2011I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

Jul 15, 2009I wrote a cleanup program to go through some directories and delete files based on if the creation date is older than say 6 months. It works fine with some of the directories I have that contain around a few thousand small files. However, there is one directory (that contains small backup files from another program) that is loaded with over 300,000 files and it locks up on me as soon as I read in the first file in that directory.I am convinced it is the directory has too many files in it to open it. The server that the directory is on is slow. It takes a half hour to open the directory while on the server itself. I know it will take forever to delete the amount of files I want to delete, but I don't understand why it gets stuck and hangs there with no error message.Here is where I get stuck. Sep 5, 2011I have a process serves as an application updater.It checks it's local cache of files and compares this against list of files online.On it's first run there are no files in the local cache and it therefore downloads ~100 of these files.[code]This appears to work very well, since Explorer confirms that all files are extracted and available.However when I later run this process again, it cannot verify the existence of 6 of these files and therefore tries to download them despite the fact that they are clearly both present and up to date.The offending code is a simple File.Exists call which appears to deny the local existence of these files, and therefore tries to get them again.The system continues to work well, but over time the continual downloading of these 6 files is going to get kind of silly.

Aug 18, 2011I'm building a tool that consists of a Webservice that will run commandline tools at specific times. On average there will be running 15-20 CL tools at the same time. Every CL tool runs no longer than about 0,5-1 minute on average. The webservice needs to be able to check each CL's status every 2-3 seconds or so.
I've got some advice about how to do this; named pipes looks likes the best "technical" solution. However I'm wondering if communicating with simple very small text "status" files would be a better, less complicated and less error-risk, way. I prefer the solution that is the most resource friendly.
