I am writing a program for a class on visual basic and i have a listbox that displays 15 random numbers using an array. Then there are 2 buttons(max and min) that when clicked displays the largest number in the list and the smallest. how do i get these buttons to do this?

I have not messed with VB much and I have been trying to do something that has me stumped. I wanted to create an array of 10 random numbers. Each of these numbers then is printed onto a label. From here I have two more labels that show the highest and lowest value. I got the first part, 10 random numbers show up but then things get shaky. This is what I have thus far.

View 9 RepliesI'm trying to make a Bulls and Cows type game, I was able to do it fairly easily with javaScript, but VB is killing me. I can get the array 5 slots long with random numbers, unfortunately they're all repeats. when I try getting no repeats I run into infinite loops, exponentially increasing array lengths, and just plain old arrays with 5 numbers randomly generated, but with repeats.
I'm trying to do this with loops, in JS I did it using regular expressions

I want to set an array upperbound limit to 50. I need a loop to create a random number and place it in the array until it reaches 50( I've set up the random generation part). My question is do I set the upperbound limit when I create the array and redim for each sample being added or set the limit somewhere else? My project is basically a addition test for 5 to 9 year old children. I am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.

This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.

Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.

I know there are easier ways to do these with arrays and stuff. But I am not there yet. I am still learning about ifs and stuff.

The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.

I have to create program that adds the whole numbers from 1 to 1000 and displays the sum in the label. Create a variation of this program that allows the user to specify any starting whole number and any ending whole number (10,000 or lower) and then adds all the whole numbers in that range. Allow for the possibility that a user may start with a high number and end with a low number. Format the label so that commas are displayed and there are no decimal places showing. -Random Integer (1 to 100)
-Random Answer (Yes or No, similar to a coin flip)
-Random Dice Roll (1 to 6)
How would I go about doing this?At the moment all I know about random numbers etc. is that I will need to do something along the lines of Dim dice As New Random or something like that, but, like I mentioned, I have no idea.I am well aware of the DIC rules that you won't write the code for me/do my "homework(?)" for me, and that's not what I'm asking.
Basically, I want to divide two numbers together and they should be 2 random numbers from 1-12 (I have done that part) but, the answer should be a whole number (i.e. Integer, so no decimal points etc) So, I did the following:

but the problem here is that the program crashes after only a few clicks on the button. So I guess the question is: How can I make the program generate two numbers (from 1-12) that when divided become a whole number?(Is there any code that may tell the random generator that I want the numbers to be even?-so all even numbers from 1-12?)

I'm using VB08. I've populated a listbox with numbers and I want to add all those numbers together and display the result in a Label. I've heard about using parse but I don't understand exactly how it works.
This is the code that I have that i think should work.

When I run it, nothing happens. My "For Each" statement I'm not sure if it's doing what I think it's doing. I can't believe I spent 6 hours banging my head against the wall but I finally got it figured out.
This is my revised code:

I've created a class that inherits from CollectionBase that populates with a custom object type. I populate the custom collection and set it as the datasource for a ListBox control and set the appropriate DisplayMember value to one of the properties of my custom object.
While the binding behaviour is working great, I'm trying to polish up the UI because when the list of objects is somewhat long, there is a momentary flash where the ListBox displays the custom classname which is then replaced with the appropriate display data. I'd like to keep that initial flash of the ToString() method from appearing. I tried SuspendLayout() and ResumeLayout() on the control and the form, but neither keeps the flash from occuring.
What am I missing?
