I am trying to learn about arrays and the for next..loop. This is a noob question but I cant seem to get it to work. I am trying to load an array with 30 numbers that print to a list box.
Dim a(29) As Integer
Dim strVar As String = "{0,-5}{1,5}{2,5){3,5}{4,5}"
Dim x As Integer

For some reason I keep getting errors in the output statement that says "Input string was not in a correct format."
The output should list 1 to 30 in the list box

So I have an assignment dealing with arrays for school but first I will start it off with the simple question as to where I am stuck now. I was wondering what the simplest way is to declare all the numbers in an array without going down the list one by one ( ArrayA(1) = 1, ArrayA(2) = 3 and so on.) I was wondering if the simplest way to do this is just by putting: ArrayA = ArrayA += 1 or what the simplest way to do this is.

I'm creating an application that creates a list of 20 ramdomly selected numbers within an array and displaying those numbers in a listbox. I then need to display the duplicate numbers in an adjacent listbox by clicking the find duplicates button. How would I be able to access those 20 numbers in order to find the duplicates?

I am trying to make a MVP kinda system and I am trying to define and load an array, through the system. Then read it out and it should populate a ListView1 object.I know they are set correct, because the console tells me it's set ok.I know the sample would fill with the same item (a week to be exact) every time i add an item, but that's not the point.Also, is it possible to define the array without the index, i mean now i set it with (6) so it sets 6 blocks for strings, but I would like to be more flexible. Is there a way like in php for example

Okay, so I have been developing my own MP3 player recently, and now I thought I would make the player remember what songs were in the playlist when it shut down. It now remembers the playlist file that was used last, but I would still rather make it so that it remembers all the songs without saving the playlist.
I've been using a setting to save the playlist file, but when I try this:
...it doesn't work. The savedSongs is a System.Collections.ListArray. Heres the code at Form_Load I'm using at the moment.
Dim loadSongs As New System.Collections.ArrayList
loadSongs = ExperimentalPlayer.My.Settings.savedSongs
lbl_songname.Text = ""

Should I use some other kind of variable to save the filepaths? Well, the other option is that I use a text file for that, but I'd rather make it like this.

So how would I use .next (random numbers) to randomly select something from a list of numbers but it can't repeat the number?I could do:
dim num as integer
dim r as new random
num = r.next(1,5)
if num = 1 then
elseif num = 2 then
etc.
That wouldn't work because it would repeat.If I donwload someone's game can I disect it in VS? :0 I tried going to open project, then I went to the folder and clicked open. It brought me inside of the folder so I tried to open the game but there is no form1 there. It says the games name then .exe in the explorer-like thing in the top right?Also, how would I have a value or something in a label and access it from a button.
Example:This is in a label.

number = 0
Then in the button do
Label.number = 0
How would I do something like that? I want to use that a lot as I did in a different language.

I have a program that will compare an array of grocery list items glist and an array of coupon item clist.When I compare the two and if there is a match somewhere in the array I want to have a picturebox visible.When there is no match, I want the picture box not to be visible. [code] The code seems to work great until I come to the else statement.When the code finds a match it displays the picture box and the msgbox without error, but as soon as the message box is cleared, even though i've input it as an ELSE statement, the picturebox goes false again.Does anyone have any idea of how I can "hold" the picturebox to stay visible while the match between the arrays exists?

I currently have a list of words in a text file sorted in to alphabetical order and put into lower case, but I would like to be able to also display the line numbers on which these words are associated with.. but only one instance of.
For example,
"This is a random text
file that I
have just made
up this second"

As you can see above, I would like to show that "this" for example appears on line 1 and 4. Hopefully tabbed so that it keeps a nice look to it.

I have noticed that when I use drawstring to only print numbers, it just prints nothing. However if I put a letter in the string, it prints. So, "12345" will not work, however
"a12345" will work.
Example:
Dim g As Graphics = e.Graphics
g.DrawString("12345", myFont, getBrush(Color), X, Y)

I am looking to print invioce numbers on stationary. So, for example, the invoice number is located in cell I1 of the excel spread sheet and starts at 100600. I want to print 150 invoices with the invoice number going up by 1 in each increment. So, I have thus far written:

I was given an assignment to "write a program to print only even numbers between 6 and 16 using events", but I don't even know where to begin. The main thing I am having difficulty with understanding in this assignment is how I am supposed to specify that it only print even numbers in the given range of numbers.
Am I going to have to do a Mod2 code for each individual number and have it exclude any with the result of 1? Or is there another piece of code specifically designed for such an occassion? Perhaps there is some type of equation I can have the program read in terms of a variable, which holds the values of 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16? I am just genuinely confused on how this is supposed to be programmed.

I'm making a simple little program. It's going to save the image in the clipboard (from pressing Print Screen) to the folder that the .exe is in. My problem is trying to find out how to save the image file with a user-specified name, such as "Image", then adding numbers to it. So it would be like Image_00001, Image_00002, etc. I would like to make the name be specified using a textbox (pretty easy). I know how to get it to save as different image formats and all, and I know how to get it to save as a hardcoded name in a hardcoded location, but that it isn't what I'm aiming for. If you've ever used the screenshot function of Fraps or MSI Afterburner, then that's basically what I'm trying to make here.
I've already searched these forums and did some Googling, but couldn't find anything that I was looking for. Not even a sample program with something like this. I found something in the CodeBank, but it's all the stuff I've already gotten implemented.

I have a csv file with say 20 lines of 6 numbers. I need to be able to select say line 14 and then load the 6 numbers into a set of 6 text boxes. I can get them into the text boxes once they are loaded into an array, it's getting them into the array I am having difficulty with. I ahve tried numerous scripts form off these forums and the net but can't get one where I can specify which line the information comes from.

I am trying to get a count of all the times a byte sequences occurs in another byte sequences. It cannot however re-use a bytes if it already counted them. For example given the string let's assume the byte sequence was k.k it would then find only 3 occurrences rather than 5 because they would be broke down like: [k.k].[k.k].[k.k]. and not like [k.[k].[k].[k].[k].k] where they over lap and essentially just shift 2 to the right.
Ideally the idea is to get an idea how a compression dictionary or run time encoding might look. so the goal would be to get down to just 2 parts, as (k.k.k.) is the biggest and best symbol you can have.

i want to keep only the last 10 numbers in a List.
The list is declared as: Dim LastPlayed As New List(Of Integer)
I then Add several Items, each time checking LastPlayed.Count is no bigger than 10.
If it is, i only want to keep the 10 most recent numbers.

I would like to be able to add every combination of a list of numbers to determine which combinations equal a specific result.
Simple Example:
List: 2, 4, 6
Result: 10
How many and which combinations of numbers result in the number 10? The correct anwser is only one which is 4 + 6 = 10. The example is simple but the actual list may contain as many as 10 - 15 decimal numbers.
I have thought of the following as a possible way of checking each combination by using binary:
- There are 3 total number so the possible combinations would be:
123 - Three numbers
000 - Add no numbers
001 - Add the last number

However, I don't know how to actually match up the bitwise bits to the numbers in the array to actually add. Example:
101 - I should check if 2 + 6 != 10 per the example above so this wouldn't satisfy the result... does this make sense? The answer would be 4 + 6 = 10.
