Adapt A 32-bit VB6 Application To Work With 64-bit Office?
Dec 1, 2011I have an application developed in VB 6.0 and VBA that uses latest Office 32 bit version. But since this application is 32 bit, it does not run on systems where 64 bit Office versions are installed. What is the best strategy I have to adopt to port this application to 64 bit. We have a mandate to use VB.NET and minimal (as much as possible) code modification from VB/VBA to .NET 64 bit. Please suggest the best option I can use so that I can leverage all best practices for this porting.

Jan 22, 2009I have created a C# .Net DLL add-in for Excel.When I try it on my home machine with WinXP and OfficeXP 2003 it works as expected. When I try it on a couple of machines at work with WinXP and OfficeXP2002 it does not work.I have spent 2 days solid reading up on this subject in general and I still cannot get to the bottom of the problem. As far as I can work out what I am trying to do should work with Excel 2002.
Some details:
- I am using Visual Studio EXPRESS 2008 (C#).
- The assembly is signed with a Strong Name Key File.
- I have installed the OfficeXP (2002) PIAs.
- I have created a class DLL in accordance with many MSDN and other internet posts.
- I have registered the DLL using RegAsm.exe and GACUtil.exe.
- I have added registry entries for Excel for CURRENT_USER so Excel should know about the DLL.
The DLL adds some Automation functions (Tools-Addins-Automation) which can be accessed in cells within Excel (for example you would enter =MultiplyFirstBySecond(2, 3) in a cell and get a result of 6) and also implements the IDTExtensibility2 methods so that when Excel is opened it creates a button on the toolbar which when pressed pops up a message box. It it this functionality (adding buttons with code behind them) that I want to expand on.I have attached the zips of the batch and registry files I have created to register the DLL in the GAC and in the registry. I have also attached a zip of the complete project. I would like to know if there is anything I should check with my machine's setup or my project or my registration/installation of DLLs, PIAs etc in order to make my DLL work on my Excel 2002 machine.

The Goal when complete is to compare Sheet 1 to Sheet 2 Then the Difference Recorded on Sheet 3 as a complete row with a date Stamp in A . If it is just a change then it is color coated Orange. If total new entry that was not on the sheet then it would be green If a Row is deleted in would be Pink.

Feb 2, 2011I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:
btnWhatever.PerformClick()
Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.

Feb 16, 2011have a Visual Basic 2008 project with references to Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel and Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access for Office 12/Office 2007. I also have Office 2007 installed on my PC. I tried running my program on a PC which has Office 2003installed (i installed the compatibility pack to open .xlsx files) and the Access Database Engine for .accdb Databases.It does not have VS2008 installed but has .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.

We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?

Nos, i've got .NET 4 installed, and i've added the system.tsr and mscorlib.dll files as reference in, say, Excel 2007 (see screenshot).However, when i try to make a thread with anything as basic as "Dim Thread1 As System.Threading.Thread", i get a user-defined type not found error.Indeed, when i use the object browser to see what's in the System file, theres nothing remotely linked to any Threading, and in the mscorlib file, nothing under "Threading" either, just a few Thread related functions, but nothing defining a data type

I keep feeling like I'm putting it, or maybe just part of it, in the wrong place so I've been moving it all over the place but haven't found anything that works yet. I'll paste my code below and it will be the code that seems to not stop when it reaches the end of my counter. Other ways I've tried it make it stop after one or two, depending on what I did to the code at them time.

Basically "aString" will keep updating if new data arrives to the server. This way does work, and keeps MsgBoxing every time I get new data, but I don't wanna use While, I need something else, because It won't run any other code, just keeps looping that. :/
