Make A VB Listbox To Respond Directly When The User Clicks On The Items?

How do we make a visual basic listbox to respond directly when the user clicks on the items in the textbox? (such as making a menu appear or displaying info in a label when the items are clicked)
I have used the SelectedIndexChange event but nothing happens when the listbox items are clicked. The SelectedIndexChange event only seems to work when a button is added. It seems that the button's click event gets the listbox's selectedindex change event to start working. The listbox's textchanged event doesnt seem to work also.
Is there any way to make the listbox respond directly to the user's clicks without the use of button controls?

I have a function which searches a folder for text files and adds each text file's name to a listbox. I want to allow the user to rename each item in the listbox while still letting the program know the original name of the file. (I dont want a rename in the box to rename the file itself)

I currently have two list boxes that have the exact same items in each. I don't want the user to be able to select the same item from both list boxes.
My code:
listbox1.Items.Add("SSS")
listbox1.Items.Add("AAA")
listbox2.Items.Add("SSS")
listbox2.Items.Add("AAA")
I'd like the user to not be able to select AAA & AAA from different list boxes, just SSS & AAA. I have way more items just thought I'd shorten it.

I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.

I am currently working at an, as the topic tittle says, ListBox control, writed in pure GDI to inproe my GDI skills.The problem is the ListBox items (defined as ListeItm), i tryes to make the ListBox items to show up every other in two different colors.
To do so, i have created a boolean called "lf". When the ListBox item is created it checks what the value of lf the last Item got, and chose the opposit, but somehow, it is not working.

I have a very simple application where I have 16 pictureboxes which are created at run time. I would like the user to click one and for me to know which one is clicked.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to go about doing this in VB.NET. I am only just getting into the whole object orientated thing and this is something which is causing me to get stuck.

I have some code in a label's mousemove event that allows it to be dragged around my form while the left button is held down. While this is happening none of the other controls on the form respond to their own mousemove events as the mouse pointer passes over them. Is it possible to make more than one control respond to mousemove events at the same time?

Using a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn, the goal is to make the ComboBoxes accept user's new items and also the possibility of choosing items that are already present.I'm aware of using EditingControlShowing event of the DataGridView to change the DropDownStyle of the DataGridViewComboBoxEditingControl at run time to allow this, but I'm wondering if this can be done at a lower level.
What I'm doing now is extending DataGridViewComboBoxColumn, DataGridViewComboBoxCell and DataGridViewComboBoxEditingControl, hoping to change the EditingControl's DropDownStyle in the moment I instantiate it. So far, no luck.The debugger shows the right assignment is being executed, but nonetheless, the DropDownStyle is popping at the EditingControlShowing (using the event for debugging purposes) as DropBoxList, not DropBox, which is the intent.

On the form load event i want to populate my ComboBox1 to display unique items directly from the DB. For that i have set the DataSource property of the ComboBox1 to the selected field. On the ComboBox1_SelectionChangeCommitted event i have set the filter for the DataSource which is working fine.
Now when i select an item from the ComboBox1 i get the filtered result in DataGridView but when i again drop down the combobox i see nothing other than the last selected item. Why is this happening? Is there a better way of populating ComboBox with the items directly from DB with default selected value as null?

I have a listbox were users can add items to. Then i also have a remove button which removes the selected item. The listbox also has a datasource, so to remove an item i uses this

I have aconsole application that executes 2 other processes, and then closes the processes once it's finished its work.
If the user closes the console application prematurely, the 2 other processes go rogue and sit idle (As they are expecting to be closed by the console).
Is it possible to detect when the user clicks the X or closes the console app in another fashion, so I can also destroy the spawned processes?
