[code] Is it possible to create a TCP listener that does not need a specific number of connections initialized? Can I just have it listen on an open port until data is received? And can then either block or redirect the browser to another website. Purpose: I know this seems to sound a little weird but what I'm attempting to do is a NetNanny type application that can run on the user's PC and the allow, prevent, rewrite (would look for particular keywords and rewrite them "words I wouldn't want my 7yr old seeing or reading), or redirect to other webpages. I would also like to be able to handle both IE and Firefox browser with this one application.

i wanted to create a random number generator that iterates through a series of number between an upper and lower bound. say between 1 and 100. Basically I want the number generator to pick the numbers randomly and then display them until all 100 numbers are picked without any duplicates. so thats easy I can code that. But what I don't know is how to show those numbers in the order they are generated on a windows form. So i have basically a variable that I will let be changed 100 times (or however many times I want, I don't want their to be a size constraint just using 100 as an example) and each time the number is generated I want it displayed on screen (in a list or something not sure what. Hopefully some type of scrollable list) and each successive number also to be displayed in same format beneath it so that I can see the list in its entirety. What type of form control do i use for that? I could do messagebox.show for each iteration but then user is required to hit ok after each iteration and that would obviously be a bad idea if user selected a large number to work through. Anyways, code isn't exactly necessary just point me in the right direction, i.e.what control (if any) to use.how to format the change in data?

View 1 RepliesThis is kind of a brain twister. First, what it involves. I'm writing an application that is working with values sent to and received from an 8 bit micro-controller. There are 8 bits of specified values. Here they are. bit1 = 1, bit2 = 2, bit3 = 4, bit4 = 8, bit5 = 16, bit6 = 32, bit7 = 64 and bit8 = 128.I made a routine that uses 8 checkboxes to add the values for sending them to the micro-controller. That wasn't too hard. In my appp there are 8 checkboxes. Each checkbox assigns one of the specific bit values to a variable (or subtracts it when unchecked). The total of the variable is then displayed in a textbox and ready to send.Now the hard part that ed to take any number between 0 and 255 apart in values that will be a combination of the numbers (1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128) above and show each checkbox which is assigned those numbers to be checked.

I am creating a class that searches a binary file for a specific customer number. I am using a binary search that keeps on slicing the file in half until I find the customer number while is sorted. Once it finds it I am positioning it at the first instance of that Customer number as there can be multiple records with the same Cus Number.
Now here is my question. I now need to loop through this Customers records and do some data base searches. Since I want to make my class as generic as possible what should I pass back to the calling class? An Array with all their records. If I do this I have to loop twice, once in the class and once when it passes the array bac to the original calling class?

When you use TcpClient, you can set the IP Address or domain name to connect to the server end of the socket. I see examples that use "localhost" as the first parameter for TcpClient. Is this just a broadcast over the network to find the server that has a TcpListener listening on the dictated port of the second parameter of the TcpClient declaration? With any IP address for TcpClient (I realize that's an option, though), how does "localhost" find the TcpListener server?
When I stop my TCP Listener by the Stop command, I always get an error because I use BeginAcceptTcpClient to accept the clients. How can I stop a listener properly?

I am trying to create a server to send clients text on request. I am using a tcp listener to accept clients then send each client to a thread in a threadpool which deals with each client's request then closes the client connection. It seems to work fine but I would like to know how it works. Using the listen loop below I cant help feeling I should be sending some values to the threaded sub. How does it know which client each thread is dealing with?
