I've almost finished my multimedia project. On the photobrowser (which constructs thumbnails of every photo in a folder and draws them onto a bitmap which I then make persistent and from which the user can select a thumbnail and the image is shown in full on a new form). You can print the bitmap consisting of 100s of thumbnails or the full image associated with a thumbnail. The onloy thing missing is getting all the Exif info - which is proving more difficult than I expected despite the propetyitems in vb.net. Yes, I have set the encoding to UTF8 etc.
View 3 RepliesHow can I access the EXIF data stored in a Nikon NEF file? I can't seem to find a lib that will allow me to extract some basic information from the metadata. (Preferably without having to install the Nikon codec)
View 1 RepliesI'm using the ExifTools code to read and update the EXIF for JPEGs in a VB.NET project I am developing. So far I've been successful with doing what I need to but I'm having difficulty with the last thing on my wishlist- the "Keywords" or "Tags" entry. The "Tags" property (as accessed by file right-click->properties->Details and just below the rating stars) is populated with information but if I use the PropertyItem for Keywords (Value 40094) with the ExifTools GetPropertyValue() function, it returns nothing.
It's pretty obvious that the "Tags" entry under file properties is not the same thing as what EXIF defines as "Keywords" but I have not been able to figure out what the correct PropertyItem value to pass is.
I have a txt file that I need to read into a listview, but I need to read from a specific line in that file. Below is a sample of the txt file to read,

1,2,-20,15,0,0,0,"NO",0,0

I am working on a project where I create image files from calculations done from user inputs. The work is saved as jpg images in various sized and I want to add EXIF data to the saved filed and later on retreive these data again so the user can continue working on the basis of a re-opened image file as I hope to store the project variables as metadata in the image file.
View 1 RepliesThat works fine, but the highlighted line creates a new bitmap, so the exif metadata are not exported to the resized image.
Is there a way to resize a picture without loosing exif data?
Creating a new bitmap with the new size is the only way to resize a picture?
I have an app which I want to use exifworks to set the date on a scanned image this is the property of the class ExifWorks
Public Property DateTimeOriginal() As DateTime
Get
Try
Return DateTime.ParseExact(Me.GetPropertyString(TagNames.ExifDTOrig), "yyyy:MM:dd HH:mm:ss", Nothing)
Catch ex As Exception
[code]....
What is the format for setting date on this property?
I have been looking for weeks for a way to update the exif metadata on a picture. There have been some individuals who tried to help, and there were others who simply referred me to a website, without any knowledge of the problem, or a possible solution.
Now I will take a different approach.
I will PAY for a working library. I want to be able to do these things from the inside of a VB program. Does anyone know of any commercial packages that will allow me to EASILY update the metadata on a picture? I am sure SOMEONE has already done this successfully. I just don't know if these companies wrote their stuff from scratch, or purchased libraries themselves.
I have many jpg images from a camera, I add a description using exifworks to modify exif data. What is the difference between saving as format.jpeg or format.exif. I had been saving as jpeg with no differences noted but which is correct & why?
View 7 RepliesI'd like to look into extracting EXIF tags/data from jpg images. I've looked around but can't seem to see any simple example. Anyone able to point me into the direction of pulling out the model/date values etc out of EXIF data?

How do I save a reduced size image with Exif data
I have created a program that saves the co-ordinates of the users mouse and saves it to a text file to be used as an auto clicker.
View 2 RepliesI'm using vb.net 1.1 to develop the program. I got text files that contain test result from a machine, like below.
T1 1.24535 2.56335 2.43253 1.24538 2.55619 4.35243
T2 1.42542 1.63728 3.57295 4.59275 1.57320 2.72057
T3 5.12857 2.45375 6.38593 2.58375 3.57259 3.57204
I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.
I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically
doc = word.Documents.Open(path, Type.Missing, False, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing)
Reading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.
This is my line of Dim LoanOptionsFile As String = "C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt"
I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?
I'm trying to make a program that can read .mp3 data (Such as Artist, Album, Year, Track number, etc), but I need to be able to do two things that I have no clue how to do:
1. Read starting from a specified string (E.G, On one line it states: [code]
2. Read until a specified string (E.G, On the previously stated line,I need to read starting from what I said, up until.
i need to read binary file and in this file found the string and replace it with other one and save the file afterwords. I found many example to read binary, but to find and replace is for me mistery.
View 3 RepliesI need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know:
1. how to open a new file
2. how to specify the record length
3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
I have a fairly simple XML file that I just want to read the data from.
It has 3 levels, root, main section and items. There are no attributes. I want to go to the first main section by name, then read in all the items. The items all are named the same. I've seen this done before, so it should be ok. No writing will be done. Basically this is a static data file
File looks similar to the following:

in my text file i have two part. Called bottom and top. So i need to read the Top part first then and match the line with bottom part. Its like this

I've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function.The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents.So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.

View 6 RepliesI need to implement a routine to read a plain text file, BUT that file has a predefined format.The file format is as follows:
Quote:
<FILE_PROPERTIES> 'The "< >" also appears
Propertie1="String" 'It's possible to have spaces after or before the "="
Propertie2="String"
Propertie3="String"
PropertieN="String"
[code]....
Is there any Windows API Routine to read something like that?Or could you point me an URL where something is implemented?I don't want a procedure to read the file line by line and comparing them with Line Input because blank spaces, empty lines and comments starting with " // " may appear too, and I don't want to take them into account, but also I need to save changes to the file, but only to the modified section, without having to read the whole file, and re-write it completely.
Binary access can't work, because I don't know what's the size of each "section", since the number of elements into it can change.
I need something like the "ReadINI" Windows API Procedure, but allowing me to read the "[XXX]" sections headers, and also the "<XXX>" file title header.
Before I begin I would like to mention that I am not a noob in VB, it's just I've never had to do anything this complex before. Basically what I want is to have a program that you can load a txt file in, have it copy key words, and paste it in a textbox so I can use it later on. So in this text file, there is a bunch of info, but I am only needing a certain part. Here is an example of a text file (actually a .dat file, but is easily read):
[Code]...
I'm using Visual Basic express 2008.The application I am working on is the first major project I have ever undertook with visual basics. The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!
How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.
Dim RetVal
RetVal = Shell("This is where I need the data from the .txt file to be seen", 1)
If your wondering why I don't just type in the path of the .exe, it's simple, not everyone installs World of Warcraft on the C drive.
