When subtracting two doubles the result appears to be correct but when I save said results in a SQL Server table they are incorrect. I know their are problems with decimal values in the binary world but isn't there a work around for this? For example 421.2 - 418.9 = 2.3, but the result stored in the SQL Server table is 2.29!In the VB code I used Math.Round to round to two digits and the values appear correct during debugging but, as I've said, in the end they are off by .01. [code] decimal(10,2)BTW, I've tried numerous methods of getting the correct value but have not met with any success. I've used Math.Round on Val1 and Val2 separately, after the subtraction, and on the ResultVal. I've also converted the ResultVal to a string using Format(ResultVal, "#####.00") and then back to a number but still the value that ends up in the SQL Server table is wrong.
View 5 RepliesThis is one of those problems where there just doesn't seem to be anything of use on Google.Does anyone have any code snippets of how to achieve this? This thread: url...links to a solution but experts exchange has been a paid for service for a while now.Ideally, the solution needs to be able to handle any number of parent/child nodes.
View 3 RepliesI am quite new at this so bear with me. I am trying to just download data, save it row by row into a database, then upload it (sorta a backup). I am using vs2010 and VB. The database I have in vs is a .sdf (not sure if i should remake as a .mdf) and the download of data is working fine. Saving it into a table isnt going so well. I am using a form to click a button to start the download, and most of my vb code is in another vb file. Making it into a method is causing me no end of pain due to the object refernce errors and nonshared reference errors. But I go to far for this. Anyways I tried to use

The above code was originally written in VS2003 to retrieve and display data from Access 03 database, and runs without error. In VS2010, this code is throwing a "Command Text was not set for the Command Object" error and points to the last line as the source of the error.

View 1 RepliesMy company is making thousands of products now, every one of them have several test report in excel files. I am thinking about putting all of them into a microsoft sql database,
1. Is it wise to do so? I think a sql database is a lot easier to manage.
2. Can I save or convert the excel file as one data in a table? How could I do it? I only see a image type for data type. Surely I expect to retrieve the excel file through ASP.Net website if necessary.oh, some additional info, every excel file is not big, but it contains pictures inside sometimes.
I'm using VB 2010 Express with a local Access DB. I am having trouble determing whether there are changes in a DataGridView to save back to the underlying DB.
The DB has been copied to the project directory and its properties (by selecting it in the Solution Explorer) include Copy to Output Directory: Copy Always, so I know that any changes I make when running a build will disappear on the next build. The problem I'm having is within a run / test session, working with the application.
The Access database has the following connection string, with Application scope:
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="|DataDirectory|Component MI.mdb"
I have common sub to save data from data table to database like this ad.Update(tb) It works fine, but problem comes when i populate Datagridview using a joined query which takes values from more than six tables, for example

View 3 RepliesI do have Visual VB.NET 2008 Express installed, SQL Server 2005 express installed, and I do know how to start a brand new project in VB.NET, and then add the database to the solution explorer, modify the tables/fields, etc. I know how to create a WinForm, add some controls (and name them and whatnot).....
So in MS Access I know how to use VB in the Code-Behind-Form to use the form in an unbound manner, and insert data into the tables via Visual Basic with SQL statements. I am looking to be able to begin the same sort of thing here, because I guess I have to start somewhere?

View 2 RepliesI'd like to save data to a text file on a remote server I have. There are no security issues here, just the method.
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "123.456.789.012/variables.txt"
If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then
Dim objWriter As New System.IO.StreamWriter(FILE_NAME)

I know it's not the most secure way of doing things, but the end data has to be in the txt format, otherwise I'd have used MySQL.
I THINK this should be a fairly simple fix, but my VB newbness is holding me back.I want to add data from various CSV files into a SQL Server staging table. Each CSV file has its own quirks as far as field names, more fields than the others, etc. go, so I'll need to map each CSV structure to the staging table in code.

But it's no good, I get this error, "Input array is longer than the number of columns in this table." at "row.ItemArray = data".
SQL Server has a Data Type of "Float". Visual Studio has a Data Type of "Decimal". In other words, if I have a variable in a VB.Net app that is defined as a "Decimal" ...can I move that value into a SQL Server Data Table column defined as a "Float"?
