View 1 RepliesI'm currently trying to delete data from a dataset/datasource/database using visual basic. So here is the run down: I've built a program that can add, delete, and modify customer information from an Access database and I just got the add function working. Meaning, I can now add customers to the database and it is sticking to the database. I re-ran the program and even restarted the computer the computer and the data is in the database. This works fine. However, now I want to get the delete button working but I'm not sure why it isn't deleting some of the fake entries I made just to test out the add feature. Here is the code I am using:
Dim delCompany As UMD3.CompaniesRow
delCompany = UMD3.Companies.FindByCompany (NOT SURE WHAT GOES HERE)
delCompany.Delete ()

I have a dataset (WW1Dataset) with one data table(WW1).(database used in an access database) I'm trying to filter the dataset e.g a user wants to filter by a chosen surname (SurnameTextBox.text) so the datset is filtered to display only those records wherethe surname column in the dataset matches SurnameTextBox.text.
View 1 RepliesI am implementing an application in vb.net about a library management system, when I add new record to the database and then close and reopen the application, the record is not there!
I googled the issue and used the text book of this course but nothing beneficial.
I'm trying to figure out how to do this as I'm not sure what's the proper way of doing this.
I've got several strings that I want to store/save permanently, even after the application is closed. How should I proceed? Do I read or write from a textfile?
1.) I dragged my detail view over to the form window to create a bindingnavigator, fields, etc. When I press save on the form, the database is temporairly saved. However, if I save my visual basic project, I lose all the changes I have made to my database. Is there a specific save command that updates the access file permanently? The default command added by dragging over the dataset does not work.
2. My database is accessed with the following string:[code]However, doesn't this mean that the database MUST be placed in that specific folder on any PC? Is there a way to simply build the database into the compile so the program automatically generates the database when installed on anyones computer?
3.) This might be fixed by fixing the previous two issues, but if I compile my program and try to install it, I get an error message "Could not download the application. The application is missing required files."
I'm using the Visual Basic Express edition 2008 and I'm not able to save the changes to the dataset as well as dataset. While the application is running. I can see the changes are made in the table but the moment I close the application and check the data in the Dataset in the right window or the data in the database in the left window, I see no changesI have also tried the Update property of Table Adapter but no use. I have done Endinit, AcceptChanges everything but moment I clode the application no changes are reflected in dataset or databse.

View 8 RepliesIn my project,I used the wizard in VB.NET2008 Express to connect to my database. I have a data connector, adapter, and dataset controls on my form. I have been able to load the information into the dataset, and used the datCustomers.Customers.AddCustomersRow to add a new row to the dataset with information.
I now want to save the updated dataset to the database. I have tried using the adapterCustomers.Update(datCustomers) command to no avail. how to save the dataset to the database?
I have created a program where I need to add, delete and update, I used a datasource and bound the items to a list. No errors occur and the data set updates, adds and deletes but the database doesn't. I have uploaded my program to a filehosting website as it is larger than 500kb and made the Main Menu the default form, please navigate to the first button or to the AddUpdate form and please help me to see where I have gone wrong. View 5 RepliesI am trying to write data back to my database in my project, but it keeps disappering when I make any changes to code. I can build the project, add data, close the project and build it again and the data is still there. But as soon as I make any changes to anything, on the next build, all of the data is gone.
The table will not be bound to any controls in the final project, but for testing purposes I have a datagrid control that it is bound to. My code started as follows:

I created a database (.mdf) file. I added data to it after running the program in debug mode. When I closed it and opened it up again, the data I got was stored and loaded again.I closed my whole Visual Basic Express program. When I opened it up again, all the data had disappeared.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong with the program? I can't get queries to work either. It worked when I used the NOrthwind dataset this past weekend but it is not working when I use my own or empty dataset.
I have inherited some code from an external contractor that I have to modify. Firstly, he uses a strongly typed dataset to retrieve some data from an SQL database and then uses that data to populate a listbox. I have decided to use a dropdown list (as the user can only ever select one value at a time). This is the code that populates the DropDownList
Private Sub FillUserComputer(ByVal userId As String)
Try
TraceDebug("Begin FillUserComputer"[code]....
This works well for the first two entries in the DropDownList. However, whenever I select one of the other options and click the Send Request button it "jumps back" to the 2nd entry in the list and sends that data instead, completely ignoring the option I selected.I think I have narrowed down the problem to the fact that the DataValue for the second entry in the list is a Null value.
I have a gridview loaded with data from my database and a gridview swapping function which after exchanging data between rows with a column call "Priority", I want to save these changes back to my database. Only the "Priority" column value will be change, how do I update only that Column of my dataset table to my SQL database?

I am creating one application visual basic and sqlce.I have two forms name Form1 and Form2.
I used Form1 to add data to database using OLeDb command and used Form2 to show data in datagridview by using dataset[code]....
I want to track changes in an application. So I've made a copy of the main table in that application, and am accessing both tables in the application using two separate datasets.
My plan was to use the HasChanges method of the main DataSet to get changed rows and then insert those into the copy table. When I run the code I get an error:
A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in MyApp.exe
Unable to cast object of type 'MainDataTable' to type 'MainAuditDataTable'.
Here's the code:
If Me.DataSet3.HasChanges Then
' 'look for each row that has changes, not new rows
' 'insert that row into the auditing table

View 2 RepliesHow do you restore a dataset to the previous state before updating the database with a data adapter? I have a concurrency update problem that I believe to be caused by this. The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. When I updated the value that could not be null and then test the second update which runs just as the first does then I get a concurrency error. The update code is below:
