Apr 2, 2010I have a standard Visual Studio 2008 VB.Net WinForm application, running on Vista Business. One of the forms has a timer that passes Me.Handle to FlashWindowEx. This works as intended as long as none of the windows that belong to this application are the Foreground window. If this program is running and another application's window is the Foreground window, then it flashes as intended. If, however, any of this application's windows are the Foreground window, then it doesn't flash.

Apr 7, 2011I Just finished a very nice Excel database front end, using mostly code snippets and tutorials learned from this site, I am new to .net and OOP having only ever trained in VB6, many many years ago and working only with VBA since then, and now I'd like to add a little extra polish to my humble app, so I need some expert help.
The problem really lies with one user in particular, who insists on typing with the capslock on when using my application, filling the database with odd records of only uppercase, when challenged she protests she isn't computer savvy and finds capitals quicker and easier.
I am aware of the string conversion tricks (ToUpper/ToLower/ToProper) available, however, due to the nature of the information being entered, it needs to be true mixed case, certain information might contain for example brand names, which often have uppercase/lowercase letters which vb or Excel for that matter simply cannot pragmatically account for (McDonalds is a good example, neither upper, lower or 'proper' as defined by the rules)
And so to my cunning plan, it is my desire to disable the capslock key! I am already setting a set of rules for each user based on Environment.UserName and so I am hoping just for this one user I can switch off the ability to use caps, as everyone else behaves themselves. I have tried to code me own way down this path but as yet have failed on all accounts.

My problem is retrieving the current active form (or application), when my application is started up. Every search seems to return old and rather complex solutions using Win32 library functions, but I was kinda hoping, that .Net allowed for a neater and more simple solution.I need a code example or link on how to retrieve the currently active application window from another application just starting up.

The program must be able to run in the background, or in the system tray or something. Essentially, this should work like the KeyDown event on a form, except the form in this case is everything.
I'm not certain if there is a way to do this directly from within the .net API, but if there is I certainly have not found it.

I have my system on auto and need to send some keystrokes to the program using sendkeys, so I need that app active. I've tried almost everything I can think of, bringtofront, setfocus, windowstate, setactivewindow, setforegroundwindow (For the last 2, hwnd doesnt work - I'm using VB 2008 Express) but none of them seem to be working.

Apr 26, 2010is it possible to make one application send a task to another application and recieve the result from that secondary app?i made a text editor program and i added a scan feature and i made another app that has ocr capabilities.The scanner ability is in my text editor program, the ocr program doesnt scan you have to input an image into it and it will give text result a few seconds later.the prob is alot of times the ocr code uses sooo much memory and crashes when its incorporated with my text editor, but individually each application works fine and doesnt take too much memory. Memory wont be even an issue if the ocr program is standalone so that when it is done decoding image the application can be made to exit. now here is the question, how do i make my text editor send the image to the ocr program and how do i make my ocr program send the text back to my text editor? is it possible? i mean the only way i know off is creating temp files in a certain folder and having a timer on each program that keeps waiting for temp files. That just seems like pretty lame coding to me i was wondering if there's a better way?
