I am using help of SqlServer.Management.Smo to rename an attached MS-SQL database.

The problem is that after renaming the database is set as a Single User.So what am i doing wrong?
Looking for the simplest way to get a single value from a database. This gets confusing when you consider all of the 9,000 ways that exist to do this in a .NET language. SqlCommands, DataReaders, Recordsets... Assume I already have a connection to the DB opened. I simply want to do something like this:

I have built this utility to upload/download files to an FTP server with a few options which will be taken from a command line. One of the options is going to be rename file. But this would be done on the remote side.
Basically, only tmp files will not be caught has hazardous on this FTP site during upload. So the file gets uploaded as tmp and will need to be renamed to .zip and vise-versa.
I know how to do this locally as it is not hard to use the moveto function, but how would I do this assuming, the ftp stream is already opened and read/write access is properly granted?

My application needs to be able to be pointed at different SQL Servers and different databases and I would like to provide the end user with a nice method of selecting both the server and database (the app is for use by other IT staff).Ideally, I was thinking of allowing them to browse to the server (with possibly entering credentials or even better, using their Windows credentials as the databases in question should be accessible to the relevant people via their AD account), and then listing the databases on that server allowing them to select one to use.
I would like them to then be able to easily change the server and database whenever necessary.I imagine I would then need to build the connection strings based on what they select but at the moment I have got rather stuck in just trying to create a form with some kind of Server Browser (I've not got as far as a database browser!).Failing some kind of server/database browser options, I would change to some simple text boxes where the user can enter the name of the server and database directly with some kind of connection verification button.
Finally, is it easy to connect to multiple databases on the same SQL Server at the same time? Is it just a case of creating and referencing multiple connection strings?I am using VB 2008 Professional and SQL Server 2005 Standard.
I am trying to update a row or a single cell in ms access through vb.net. But when i update the text box named NRIC, say for example i want to update "s4522147B" to "tr4521856C" and mean while leaving the other fields the same.
But the thing is when i make the changes in nric.text (textbox), the dataset actually updates the whole column in the table instead of the selected textbox.

1. Store user passwords in sql server express database in encrypted form
2. decrypt the encrypted Sql server express connection string password on the fly when connecting to SQl Server over a vpn or direct to web based sql server database
3. decrypt the encrypted ftp site password on the fly when my application connects to my ftp site to upload client's database backups
The issue I have is that the secret key for the encryption / decryption is hard coded within the encryption/decryption functions. So anybody who decompiled my application would be able to generate the same encryption, as they would have the encryption secret key How can you hide the encryption secret key so that if anybody decompiled my app they could not reproduce the decryption function

Developing an application that will serve as an application server (Similar to 'Run Advertised Program' that is present in Windows Server). The downside to using Microsofts current system is that it a) requires Windows Server and b) Works only with systems setup in a proper Domain. I have a number of systems in my house and I'm fed up of downloading from the net or setting up network drives etc etc. I've tried using the code in a similar topic posted a few threads down, but it obviously doesn't support multiple client connections.

View 1 Repliesi have an access 2007 database in wich i have a table named abc_PersonalLog, wich also has three columns: Id (auto number), StarDate (text) and LogEntry (Memo). It is a Diary application. So, when the user makes a log entry, the StarDate column receives a string formed of concatenated year, month and day, i.e. if date is 20th march 2012, the string will be 120320, and the Log entry column, the text entered by user in a textbox.My problem is that, somehow, i have to retrieve that data, when the user will want to read log entries he made. I managed to assign the text property of a label to the LogEntry text for a given date.But, if the user makes multiple entries in a single day, the table will have several rows containing the same string in the StarDate field, but different text in the LogEntry fields. How can i display ALL the LogEntry texts for all the rows containing the same StarDate value? Here is my code so far:

i am having a console application. I am trying to connect to a sql server.
my connection string: Data Source=<Some server>;Initial Catalog=<some database>;Trusted_Connection=True.
when i am executing on my local machine it runs successfully. But when i am trying to run it on a server it is giving me the following error:

In my scenario, users are able to upload zip files to a.[url]....I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a[url].....From the info i gathered so far,
The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler.
The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job
The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).

I have a Search form where the user can click a Button that opens up a rtb with every single word (12,800+) used in the King James Bible. Every word is Capitalized ("Thankful, Grateful", etc), so in my code, the user selects a word, then right-clicks and sends the word to the TextBoxSearch in lowercase. Now, if the RTBDisplay (where all search results go) is empty, then a msgbox pops up asking if the user would like to re-search the same word in Uppercase. If they click OK then the word in the TextBoxSearch (lets says: "thankful") is supposed to become "Thankful". But instead, the TextBoxSearch goes blank. I have tried many variations of code, and here is my latest (doesn't work):

View 1 RepliesOk, the basic situation: Due to a few mixed up starts, a project ends up with not one, but three separate databases, each containing a portion of the overall project data. All three databases are the same, it's just that, say 10% of the project was run into the first, then a new DB was made due to a code update and 15% of the project was run into the new one, then another code change required another new database for the rest of the project. Again, the pertinent tables are all exactly the same across all three databases.
Now, assume I wanted to take all three of those databases - bearing in mind that they can't just be compiled into a single databases due to Primary Key issues and so on - and run a single query that would look through all three of them, select a given set of data from each, then compile those three sets into one single result and return it to the reporting page I'm working on.
I am new to VB and seeking to create a visual basic program which controls the display of several on-screen elements depending on a single value input by a user. The user can enter anyone of 2500 values and depending on the value entered, five different display elements on the screen will change color or text. The program's response to a given input value never changes, in other words if the user enters 279, the five different display items will always be the same. However, there is no real pattern to the display items that would allow for programming an anticipated response to the input value.
My thinking is to create a large and ponderous "lookup table" in visual basic - I am assuming this an be done but perhaps there is a different or better method. I plan on creating the lookup file in Excel but was assuming I'd need to export it to something that VB could easily read. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Does the lookup table reside as a separate .txt files someplace or something like that? [Code]
