I'am creating a script editor for my own purposes.And i have a menu option called "Close", and i want to check if the file is saved or not, so it no code get lost by clicking wrong.
Anyone have a idea how i check if the file is saved?
I decided on a comma separated data file, saved as a text file. This is for data that will not change. After loading the data from the text file; then throughout the lifetime of the program the data can change. The data can then be saved back to a different binary file. The idea is to have a save state system going.Does anyone have a suggestion or is opposed to the idea. Is there a simpler way to organize something like this?
View 6 RepliesI have my datagridview being loaded from a Text File and then being saved to a text file as a comma separated file - the commas obviously separate the columns. However in some of the cells prior to saving, I have data that i have inputted over two lines by pressing shift + return.
E.g.
"SOLD
10/05/2012"
This saves fine, but obviously shows up in the text file as a line break, which then causes some issues when I choose to re open the info back into DGV. How I can code so that it saves as a line break within a cell, rather than a completely new line.

I tried opening a .txt file in a multiline text box but textbox.loadfile doesn't work. So then I tried opening it in a richtextbox but then it says the file type isn't supported. So basically how do I create and open .txt files and if I wanted to create multiple file types (.html, etc) then what would be the best way to do that? I am making a multitabbed text editor.

I've got 2 seperated programs.
One is a program where you can select a product and select how many of them you want. Then the total price wil be displayedin a label. And the list of selected products will be saved in a .txt file.
The second program is an Edit program. The user can edit his selected products. Here he can change the total of a product.So if he had selected 1, he can change it to three or something. When the user clicks the button Save. The changes will besaved in the same .txt file and the total price will also be changed and displayed in program one.
Program one is compleet.Program two has problems and here i need your help:- the user can't make a change in the numbers, seems that the textbox is read-only or something. How to solve?- Then when i click save, the changed must be saved in the .txt ( i can't test this yet because no changes can't be made)- the total new price must be showed in program 1 (i think i programmed this well, but can you take a look)

I had to develope a program that shows a list of names and age in text editor. I am able to open the file in text editor but not getting the names and ages when typing it in the text box and clicking my "write button" or the file menu write. Everything else seems to be working fine with the exception of getting my message box twice from the event load. I'm trying to build a new customer data entry page for a db project. One of the features I would like to add is a way to check and see if there have been any new records that have been added that haven't been explicitly saved to the db. If so, when the form_closing events fires I want to evaluate whether or not new entries have been made that weren't saved, and then count the number of rows that haven't been saved.

I have a rather large VB.NET solution that has many forms. I am using Visual Studio 2010. When opening the solution one form will check out and produce an * putting in astate of needing to be saved as though I had made a change to the code or form. I have compared the code of all 3 files (.vb, .designer.vb, and .resx) to the source repository and I get they are identical, so basically nothing has changed. It does not appear to be harming the project in any way just aggravating and I was wondering

Should I have each tab / text document open up in a new thread or a process? I basically want the entire application to always run fast as the text editor is just one part of it. View 2 RepliesI'm adding a method to find and select text in my text editor. Everything worked fine, including the ability to find all instances of the text. My problem came when I tried to make it more user-friendly (doesn't it always?). Originally I had only a menu item with a shortcut( Ctrl + F) which invoked an input box.
Then I added a textbox and a button (similar to that seen in a web browser's Find() method) that calls the method in the same manner as the Find/Replace menu option and displays the desired text in the textbox. Everything works fine except that the text is not selected. I have MessageBoxes displaying the values of required variables in 3 places (marked ***FOR DEBUG ONLY***) to make sure that no values are being changed, but all variables are the same. The method still locates the text, but it is not highlighted.
I think it could have something to do with which object has focus. (When I click the button, the selected text loses focus?). But if I click everything with the menu items, it still works...
