IDE :: Opening Results In Form Check Out And Needing To Be Saved?
Mar 17, 2012
I have a rather large VB.NET solution that has many forms. I am using Visual Studio 2010. When opening the solution one form will check out and produce an * putting in astate of needing to be saved as though I had made a change to the code or form. I have compared the code of all 3 files (.vb, .designer.vb, and .resx) to the source repository and I get they are identical, so basically nothing has changed. It does not appear to be harming the project in any way just aggravating and I was wondering
Basically im designing a programme where someone can put their information in, save it, and then I can access their information by clicking on their name in a list box.For example, they type in their name and number, when i open another form, their names come up an a list box, click on their name, and another form appears with their name and number in it.
I have developed a tool(vb.net), it provides you to save the process, the next time when the user click on the saved process(ie the saved icon thing), it should open the appropriate process, now it just opens with tht exe,, how it can be done i am not aware of the tech terms of the these process type.. I hope i conveyed wht is my requirement,, Take for eg, When we save a word doc, it saves as .doc Next time when we click on the .doc the document opens. Like that process has to take place..
i use Visual basics express edition 2008. What i need help with is code for opening an already saved (one that i created) microsoft word document using a button in VB.
I am programming the Save File Dialog Box. I've got the basic code but after I save the text file that I created, the actual text itself seems to have disappeared when I open the file.
I'am creating a script editor for my own purposes. And i have a menu option called "Close", and i want to check if the file is saved or not, so it no code get lost by clicking wrong.
Anyone have a idea how i check if the file is saved?
I'm trying to build a new customer data entry page for a db project. One of the features I would like to add is a way to check and see if there have been any new records that have been added that haven't been explicitly saved to the db. If so, when the form_closing events fires I want to evaluate whether or not new entries have been made that weren't saved, and then count the number of rows that haven't been saved.
im searching for code examps on how to search multi-websites from user input within a desktop apps textbox and return active links into a webbrowser within the app...this even possible?
I am using an access DB and wanted to create a query that returns user's in the db. First I need to check the db to see if it is empty. Then I need to check to see it my query returned any values. How do I go about doing this?
how can write code that can check if __InstanceCreation query has returned rows or not. I'm using this code to check for the creation of a file
Private Function CheckForFileCreation() As Boolean Try Dim query1 As New WqlEventQuery( _
[Code]....
so I need to know if the query returned > 0 rows, if it did then the function will return true, if the query returned 0 rows then the function should return false. Sorry I am a complete noob with WMI and WQL
I may be SOL on this but I thought I would give throw it out for possible solutions.I am writing a computer access control service tcontrol my kids' computer use. Plan on open sourcing it when I have it working. It is written in VB.Net and needs to work on XP through 7.I am running into all sorts of security and desktop access issues on Windows 7.The service needs to run as admin to execute the NetSh command to disable the network. But I cannot interact with the desktop from the service so I IPC to a UI to handle other stuff, but I still cannot detect from the service if the desktop is locked. Argghh!
There is a site that I go to that has a website chat thats located at the bottom of every page. It allows you to talk to specific people while you're online and they're online.
Sometimes when I get into a good conversation I don't want to end it. I still have other things to do though.I wanted to make a small window that I can just drag around that will allow me to chat with people easier.
I've set up pretty much everything in this program except the actual retrieving of the information from the site and the replying to the chat. I know I could do this (I've done similar things in the past) by putting an invisible webbrowser object off to the side and just run my stuff through there. But I think thats kind of sloppy.
I've read in some of my classes and books and have learned how to make simple web requests that return the results. In its case, I had to return definitions from google. I tried this on a recent project but found that it didn't the permission to access any kind of secured account whether it was logged in or not because it was "unsafe".
Does anybody know how to access a page thats been logged into through IE but without needing the sloppy methods I mentioned earlier?
I am trying to use the my.computer.network.ping method to check a server's ping. what I realize is that I need to open a socket. I do not know how to do that. I have a textbox with the website url.I have a label that will display ping.
I can add a folder in the setup/deployment project and it gets added when my project is installed. when I do it by writing code, I get a message "access is denied", but the programme will continue to work. I eventually worked out that I had to right click the exe file (in programfiles) and run as administrator so that the directory is created (as the form loads).
I am creating a simple button based rpg and was wondering if someone could help me with 3 things how to hold information within the game until the player save's the game, Saving the game, and Loading the game.I want the saved games to be saved onto a encryted file like .db or .dat file..
I am creating AutoSave functionality for an application. Its an mdi application. it needs a seperate form where the user can turn AutoSave onoff and set the interval in minutes for it to execute. The users values for these i plan to saveupdate etrieve into my.settings.
I plan to put a timer on the form that needs to be AutoSaved. If the user turns off the timer from the options form, how would i go about stopping the timer on the form that needs to be saved? Should I change the timer to be "Shared Friend" and access it directly from the options form or what?
This is probably a pretty novice design question. I'm trying to work my way through a number of requirements and give the users the experience they're looking for.I've written a tool that does big calcluation-type things. It currently consists of a class library and command line tool (separate .NET projects.) We're using an Access database format as the file type because it can keep all the various tables together in one file. A few other items about the application: There are not many users. There are no concerns with scalability. There are not great concerns with updates. Desktop is desired. Not web.Using VB and .NET 3.5 SP1
I now need to develop a GUI front end that will allow typical File/Open and File/Save type operations.Users expect that they can open a file, edit it some, then either choose to save it or close it unsaved without any changes being written back to the file. Saving it would obviously save all changes affecting all tables back to the file.
Does it then make sense to use a temp file for something like a proxy then? To, when a user "opens" a file, copy the source Access file to a local temp file and then use that for the editing session? Then, if the user "saves", copy the local temp file back to the source path?
Update: [tagged with ms-access tag too] Also, I omitted the fact that users would expect typical File / Save As functionality too. I think the design I've put in question in this post is what is traditionally called the Proxy design pattern. Has anyone tried this (successfully!) with Access database files before? Words of caution or advice?
I have a simple Master/Detail program the database contains 2 tables and the form contanis 2 datagridview controls getting it's data from 2 bindingsource controls
my problem is when I enter a new record in the grid that belongs to the master table and enter a detail to that data the data of the new master record is saved but not it's detalis but when I enter new details for old master record the save is done well
how I can enter an new record for master table and enter a detail for it and save without loosing detail data
I have now had two occurances of (different) users "losing" their frm position. I save the position to my.settings in the formClosing event ... and this is the only place that these values are set. When the users loaded the form the first time it worked just fine. At some later point the for got repositioned to -32000 (top) and -32000 (left). I now check for this and reposition the form when it is not on the monitor, but I'd like to understand what causes this. I'm using VS2010 and compiling against .net 3.5
Is the formClosing the wrong place to put the logic to save the settings?
I made a buttom that saves info from RichTextBox to selected location now My problem is I want this file to be loaded when program loads so basicly folder will look like this
myprogram.exe CustomNamesFolder > Inside that folder there will be a file called names.txt how can I doit so that name.txt file loads in my ComboBox? so when user downloads the exe they can just go in to folder edit the .txt file and add names they want and when they start program it will load this list in to the ComboBox of my program
How can I achive this ? I looked at 6 pages of Loading Files in program but non told me what I wanted to know above ;s
This always happens to me in Visual Basic. Whenever I save a project from one day and open it again using that same VB version the next day, I can never see the form design. But if I click on Debug, I can see the Form design and only use it as if it were a program.
Is the StartUp form of a program saved in a variable (i.e. from the name space My) ? I guess I can catch it during startup by using an Object Type variable during Load time , but I wonder if it is already defined anywhere else .
Is there a better way to make a form with multiple buttons opening different things than having a form that has lots group boxes for each tab. So in the begining each box will be invisible and when you click the button the corresponding group box will become visible. Is there any other way?It will be like a background image and it'll have buttons that will mask it with invisible buttons. when the button is clicked it will open the corresponding group box.
In the main form the user can choose to download information from a device.Since this request takes time, when "download information" is pressed I open new form in a separate thread: Private Sub RunDownload()
I would like to know the event order of form which is executed while opening form. I am showing my form using following code and the code in form_load event executes twice. Once when the form variables are initialised and second when form is displayed. I want it to execute once only. form showing code:
What I want out of this program is to have a saved file open up in another form and displayed in 4 text boxes so they are able to be modified. my code is as followed:
This is my problem.I have a field set up in MS Access to Boolean YES/NO, this field is populated when the user check a checkbox on a windows form. If the user check a checkbox, the value is written as checked in the data field (MS Access). The problem is when I search for the user information, I need the information from the Data base to populate(return) to the windows form. Example: If I enter a users phone number and the user data is present, the form gets populated with the information the user previously entered which was store in the database.Example: If the user selected checkbox1 and submits the form. When I search for the user info, the check box should check(populate) because the user had checked it on submit. Here is what I have done:
[code]...
I am getting the check value correctly in the database using a Boolean. Here is one of the errors I am getting. Unable to cast object of type
'System.Boolean' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox.I am having trouble putting the codes in a code tag or block
