DB/Reporting :: Check If Newly Added Records Have Been Saved
May 7, 2008
I'm trying to build a new customer data entry page for a db project. One of the features I would like to add is a way to check and see if there have been any new records that have been added that haven't been explicitly saved to the db. If so, when the form_closing events fires I want to evaluate whether or not new entries have been made that weren't saved, and then count the number of rows that haven't been saved.
I've created a database in Access 2007 and connected it to Visual Basic 2008. My database have tables Coachee and Coach. Details of Coachee are displayed in one form and there's a button that when clicked will show details of the Coach of that particular Coachee in a another form. If the Coach is not in database, user will be prompt to insert a new Coach record. Problem is, when saved, the newly inserted record will not be displayed and i have to exit and rerun the program, only then the record will be displayed.
on form1 , i have a combobox and a label. on form 2 , i have a checkbox , a textbox , and a label . in the textbox i input the name to be added to form 1 by combobox checked, and the label has a folder directory.
i can add the new item to the combobox on form 1, from the checked box on form 2. what i can't seem to figure out, is how to get the form1.combobox newly added item to show the folder directory label from form 2 on the form1's directory label when i click on the combobox item..
my form isn't showing my newly added records in the database but when i close it and then open again it will show. I want to know how to add refresh button and it will automatically refresh itself..
I have a Datatable where i added data from textbox when i want to edit selected datatable rows from gridview to eidit these values will be showing in their respected fields but when i click update button the only first row in gridview will be updated either i select first row or any other row in gridview for editing whereas i want to update the selected rows data. NOTE: I was design datatable visually under vb.net 2008 designer and the datatable have not any primarykey i am using following code under btnupdate event
Dim i As Integer StoreDBDataSet.Tables("DataTable1").Rows(i).Item("Code") = txtCode.Text StoreDBDataSet.Tables("DataTable1").Rows(i).Item("Description") = txtDescription.Text
I don't even know where to start with adding a command to a newly added item in the context menu. So much work to do and so many choices to choose from...
I've read about @@Identity. I've also read that it's no longer supported. I get lost in the mountains of data searching provides.I'd like to get the "ID" field, which is an AutoNumber Primary Key field, when I insert a new record. There's got to be a simple way.
just want to ask help in terms of adding new menu item onclick event on an existing menu item. I have a window menu (handles all open window forms in the Parent) once a new window opens i used this [Code] but i need also to add an onlick event on all the forms being added, so when they click that sub menu it will open the form selected. My question is how can i add an onclick event for this newly added menu item?
I am using Visual Studio 2005 (Visual Basic) and MS Access 2003 I am trying to build an application in the lines of the book "Doing Objects in Visual Basic 2005" by Deborah Kurata. So, I have a Data Access Layer (DAL) Class Library that is separated from the business logic layer (business objects) Class Library. I try to add a new business object such as a "Customer" to the Access Database, where the "Customer" table has a PrimaryKey "CustomerID" which is an AutoNumber field. I am successful in writing the values to the database, but I can't figure out how to know the "CustomerID" of a newly added "Customer" so I can populate the business object with the respective values.
if could modify the following code for me so that it save data row by row from a DataGridView into SQl Server. Currently, the code saves data from all rows at time instead of saving only the recently added data in a row or rows when the user clicks a button.[code]...
I'm having a problem setting the maximum number of records that can be saved into Access. The maximum allowance is to be 10. Records are being pulled from a listbox. The whole problem is that if the listbox has 7 items and my table already has 5 records, it still records them, making a total of 12. What I'm looking for is a way to trap that to a max of 10.[code]...
I am using VS 2010 and Access 2010 and in a table I have a Primary Key called Counter which is an Autonumber. When I save a record I need to be able to access the value of the counter field for the new record. When I try and access the field I get a value of zero.I can see the value in Access but I cannot set it in Vb.Net. I have set the fields and then
I have problems to print the records which is saved in text file. It prints whatever in between the textfile but does not print whatever contents in the textfile.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub pd_PrintPage(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal ev As Printing.PrintPageEventArgs)
i have a sql table which has 2 fields number & name
1 abc 2 xyz
Situation is that the app finds out max of number and increments it by 1 to get new number. The problem is when two users enter some record sometimes two records get saved on same number.
I have a textbox, a sql database, a binding source bound to the sql database. I can use auto-complete mode of the textbox with custom strings and it suggests in in a drop down form as the user types in a textbox. How can I use autocomplete mode with datasaved in different records of a field using the bindingsource?
i have a datagridview with (a lot of) rows. With a click of a button I add them into a table. Everything works fine. I want to create a log of the records that have been added into the table.
Dear Friends I have Developed a Successful Database Software, it include Datagrid, First, Last, Next, Previous, Add, Delete, Edit, Update, Search just Every Thing is Working Nice, But I need help from one of expert from you. my problem is that every time when i Start program its all functions are workin including edit and delete. (mean data (rows) Added at previous run is able to be Delted at current time) but when i add new record at current run time it adds succesfully, but while at same run time session (current) i tries to Delete or edit new added roecord it is not working, in simple words new added records are not able to delete and edit at same run session. i m including project's zip file and plz try to run it and add new record, after adding record at same time try to edit or Delete new added record.
I'm working on a simple data logging program, and I have little to no database experience. I wrote a little VB forms app to log the data to ms access and then graph the data, but I'm having trouble with adding records to the database. First, I created a simple one table database in access. Then, I added the database to the project as a data source, and gave it a data set using the wizard. Right now my code looks like this:
[Code]...
There are no problems during build or run time, but I do not see changes to database after the program runs.
I'am creating a script editor for my own purposes. And i have a menu option called "Close", and i want to check if the file is saved or not, so it no code get lost by clicking wrong.
Anyone have a idea how i check if the file is saved?
I have a rather large VB.NET solution that has many forms. I am using Visual Studio 2010. When opening the solution one form will check out and produce an * putting in astate of needing to be saved as though I had made a change to the code or form. I have compared the code of all 3 files (.vb, .designer.vb, and .resx) to the source repository and I get they are identical, so basically nothing has changed. It does not appear to be harming the project in any way just aggravating and I was wondering
I have a 'user' table, a 'phone number' table and a 'user to phone number map' table. The phone number table stores only unique phone numbers. This way I can take a look at a phone number and see who is using it easily. It is also easy to check if a phone number exists when the user is edited. The question is how I should be checking to see if the phone number should be added to the map. I could loop over the loaded mapped users and check each id. There must be a method that I can use to check like EdmUser.phone_number_map.contains(PhoneNumber). However I cant find anything like this.
I am basically trying to create some records using Structures as you can see below, however the value of Index doesnt seem to be incrementing as I am assigning it to txtCustomerId.text each time form loads, however the value of the text box remains at 1000 all the time
Code:
Public Class Form1 Dim NumberOfCustomers As Integer Dim Index As Integer
I am a high school student and i am teaching myself VB, C# and C++... it is a slow process containing mainly trial and error, looking up things online, and when the time is right asking assistance from people who know more then I.
I am currently creating a VB program that creates a database of questions, and the same or separate database. using them questions it can initiate a quiz that will save results in a different database for each student. I am having difficulties getting the code right for reading the databases, and getting it to move to the next portion of the database for each question... a little more info:
Question # = Primary key (there will not be more then 1 of the same # problem) Question Type = i am using different integers right now to specify if the question is a T/F, Multiple Choice, Open info Et Cetra.... Question Answer = Correct answer Alt answer (x3) = option to add other answers for multiple choice problems...
I don't know exactly how to get it to read a problem and when clicking a next button on a form to have it go to the next question in the database..
Is it possible to have a quick and easy way of retrieving the last 10 records from a table?
Currently what I have been doing is retrieving all the records then one-by-one cylcing through each record until I have the last 10. To me this seems to have a lot of over-head reading each record. I just wondered if there was a quicker way of doing it.
I have a form i have made to calculate angles, well, I have now added a check box to reverse the angle and have got it to reverse with no problems. The problem I have is, when I uncheck the checkbox, The line doesnt revert back to normal posistion. Here is the code if someone could point me in the right direction cause I am lost now.
I have a DataGridView bound to a non-SQL Server database.I need to allow users to edit existing records but under certain circumstances I need to intercept the edit and instead of committing and updating the dataset I need to delete the edited record and re-add it as a new record.I have tried using every event I can think of to do this but haven't managed to get it right. [code] This almost works but sometimes completely messes up and re-adds rows twice and all kinds of other bad side effects.
An order can have many OrderDetails, and a Product can be on many different orders. The OrderDetail table just has the OrderID and productID, so there is essentially a many-to-many between order and product).I have a form for the user to enter a new order. I want to have an unbound box that contains the names of all the products, and to be able to drag these names into a box under the order, to add a new OrderDetail record using the productID of the dragged order along with our orderID.
