Visual Basic Turning Array Integers (x) Into X Amount Of A Single Character

Mar 31, 2012

I have been tasked to create a Visual Basic console script that asks the user 5 times in a row to input a number into an array (sales figures in thousands), Then you display these results as a sort of tally chart.

For example for the data: sales(10,7,12,5,15)
The output would be
2008:++++++++++
2009:+++++++
2010:++++++++++++

Turning An Array Into A String?

Oct 7, 2011

Basically, my program is supposed to display the list of students that have been entered. (Into a listbox.) Here's the AddStudent code (which works as far as I know)

Public Sub AddStudent(ByVal FullName As String, ByVal Gpa As Integer, ByVal Major As String, ByVal SocialSecurityNumber As String)
_FullName(ENROLLMENT) = FullName
_Gpa(ENROLLMENT) = Gpa[code]......

Here's where the problem comes in...I need to return a value from "GetAllStudents" that can be used with the lisbox. Here's the code for that:

Public Function GetAllStudents() As String
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim aryStudents(50) As String[code]....

This obviously doesn't work. It gives an error that I can't convert a 1dimensional string to an array.

Showing Contents Of String Array To Single Label

Jan 12, 2011

I got a string array & I need to show the contents of it to a single label. It acts like a clock. The thing is I tried with everything I could but I failed. This is the code I've been trying. Its in vb.net. And theres a thread running to slow down the loop so I can display the contents in a label for 2 seconds.

Dim j As Integer
For j = 0 To readText.Length
label.text=readText(j)
Thread.Sleep(2000)

Passing Arrays Through Fortran Dll From App Turning To Single Element Arrays?

Feb 2, 2010

I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

VS 2008 Filling Array With Pixel Data And Turning It Into A Bitmap?

Jul 22, 2009

I have a small 10px by 10px image, and I want to use VB.NET to find out if that image is (an exact) part of a larger image.I thought a method of doing this would be to lock the bits of the larger image into memory and then loop through each pixel in the image and for each pixel, I could take the 10px by 10px section which is down and to the right of that pixel.. and then compare it to my smaller image.

This is the code I have so far:

'Lockbits of larger image to memory
Dim bmp As New Bitmap(Image.FromFile(System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory() & "picture.bmp"))
Dim pxF As PixelFormat = PixelFormat.Format24bppRgb

[code]....

when I'm looping through the 10 by 10 section and I find the R G B bytes for each pixel, how do I store this in my rawImage array so I can convert it to a back bitmap and compare it with my original small 10by10 image?

Program - Requests A High Number And A Low Number From User - Searches Array And Finds All Elements Within Two Numbers

Jan 24, 2010

I need to write a program that requests a high number and a low number from the user, then the program searches the array and finds all elements within the two numbers. The program is used to search for past presidents, so if I type 43 for low number and 44 for high number, the program will display:

George Walker Bush
Barack Hussein Obama

I think I have an idea of how to search up to a certain point, but not to stop at a certain point....Here is the code that I have for that particular sub procedure:

Quote:

Private Sub btnDisplayRqst_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDisplayRqst.Click
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("PRESIDENTS.TXT")

Byte Conversion To Single Number

Aug 4, 2010

I am totally new with VB.NET. I have started coding for Modbus protocol. The response that I receive from the slave is as below -

01 = byte slave id
03 = byte function code
04 = byte -no. of bytes sent by slave
00 = byte(8 bits) (Lower Register MSB)
00 = byte(8 bits) (Lower Register LSB)
64 = byte(8 bits) (Upper Register MSB)
00 = byte(8 bits) (Upper Register LSB)
2bytes for crc

Now I want the value of 64 00 00 00 into floating point number in Vb.net . I think in vb.net its single as its 32bit floating precision number. Now the bytes that I need are 00 64 00 00 but if i process in this way the output is different, so I tried manually putting the data into the byte array and found out that I need 64 00 00 00 to be processed so that i can get desired output.

Assign A Number To A Single Variable It Does Not Equal The Same Value?

Nov 2, 2010

I have been searching the internet trying to understand in its simplist form why this behavior happens.

Dim mysingle As Single = 456.11 Dim mybool As Boolean = mysingle = 456.11

In the lines above mybool becomes false. I found this behavior when putting the single into a double I found extra digits showing. The .net documentations states a single is an approimate value I gatehr a single is a 32bit floating point number? But why are extra digits appearing when I have explicitly said what the number is.. surely the memory should store that numbers either side of my number are 0 to fill up the memory location?

Any Formula To Change Latitude And Longitude Into Single Number?

Nov 27, 2011

If there is a formula to change a latitude and longitude into a single number? I plan to use this for a database table in software that provides routing for deliveries. The table row would have that number as well as the postal address. The database table would be sorted in ascending numeric order so the software can figure out which address the truck would need to go to first, second etc.

For example I would use the following numbers for the latitude and longitude:
Lat = 40.71412890
Long = -73.96140740

Additional Information: I'm developing an Android app using Basic4Android. Basic4Android uses a VB or VB.Net syntax with SQLite as the database. Part of this app will have route planning. I want to use this number as the first column in an SQLite table and the other columns will be for the address. If I do a query within the app that sorts the rows in numerical ascending order, I will be able to figure out which postal address are closest to each other so it will take less time for me to go from house to house.

For example, if the numbers were:
194580, 199300, 178221

I can go to postal address 178221 then to 194580 and finally to 199300 and I won't need to take the long way around town to do my deliveries after they were sorted. As an alternative, I would be happy if there was an easy way to call a web service that returns maybe a json response that has the single number if I send a postal address to the web site. Basic4Android does have http services that can send requests to a web site.

Array With A Single Element Javascript

Sep 1, 2011

I have a site that dynamically creates two arrays of Lat/Long values based on the stores that the currently logged in user can see. If the user can only see one location then I get an error about array length needing to be a finite integer. When I look at the source I see var ls = new Array(45.056124);is being created on the page dynamically which is what I'm expecting. Except I think it is treating it as if I am trying to set the length of the array instead of set the first element to that value.How do I go about creating an array using the ClientScript.RegisterArray Declarationfunction to hold a single double value using vb.net?

Getting And Setting Single Bits In A Byte-array Using .net?

Jul 5, 2011

I have a byte array with 512 Elements and need to get and set a single bit of a byte in this array.The operation must not change any other bits, only the specified one.So if I have a byte like &B00110011 and would like to change the third bit to 1 it should be &B00110111.

Like this:Dim myarray(511) as byte myarray(3).2 = 1 ---> This would change the third bit (start counting at 0) of the third byte to 1 I know it should be easily possible using bit-masking but I don't have the time to try for days to get it working.

Make Some Single Dimension Array Lists?

Sep 7, 2010

I've managed to make some single dimension array lists but I can't figure out a multi dimension arraylist.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

I have a database (mdb) with 5 columns that I want each row to be in an array list.

In PHP what I'd typically do is:

$array[$field1] = array($field2,$field3,$field4,$field5);

How I do the same in vb.net so anytime I need to fetch an item for a specific for the row1 I could call it?

For a single dimension I could do the following, but I can't figure out how to add more fields to a single array row:

Dim tmpArrayX As New ArrayList
tmpArrayX.Add(field(0))
tmpArrayX.Add(field(1))
etc...
