May 29, 2012What I am looking for here is a way to possibly click a button inside a web browser control and have it call a sub from inside the program or have the program react to something on the page. I am trying to make a HTML5 GUI for my application. I don't really want use any 3rd party API's to handle commands from a HTML5 interface but if I can find another alternative that would be good. I have *.mdb DataBase with 20 tables each table have more than 10 fields, i'm trying to automate the MDB file from a network like that 5 PCS + One vb.net exe program (5 users) working on the same time on the exe that is connected to the database , my questions are :
1) How much risk is it to put the database into one (shared) folder and connect it to the program ?
2) What is the best way to establish this method ?

Feb 17, 2011We are looking to design a security application that does the following on laptops:If the ethernet adapter is used (cable plugged in) disable/block all other network connections (wireless WIFI, mobile broadband (PPP), virtual VPN adapters etc)When ethernet adapter is not being used again, all connections allowed.We have looked in the WMI a lot but there are no good ways of doing this. Only disabling the network connection is not secure enough because most mobile broadband applications try to re-establish the connection. This should be an application that works on all laptop vendors without any user interaction (such as choosing interfaces etc..).

The front-end (UI, menus, etc.) will all be in VB .NET, and there will be a back-end database for storing all of the required data, such as student records and meeting information. What I would like to know is if it's possible to use a Microsoft Access database for this purpose, and have it accessible by all the staff in the centre (on the same network) at the same time. For example, would I be able to put the database in a shared network folder, and have a copy of the VB application on each PC that would all be able to read/edit/add to the database?

Is it still acceptable/good practice to have all the users just have a shortcut to the network path for this executable? Apr 9, 2010I have my program that runs from a workstation and the SQL DB is on the SERVER.I am having a lot of problem with it as the VB.NET program wont refresh the dataset.I would like to test the same by putting the SQL DB on a network drive, and run the program from another workstation.Just to narrow down the problem.My Question is this. I install the SQL DB on machine A and then install my program on Machine B?
What should I do to get Machine B to access the SQL DB on Machine A.Will sharing the SQL FOLDER be good enough for my program to access the DB of course, I have to modify the connection string on my program, but other that is there anything more to be done.

We have HP Procurve network switches and I know that with a telnet application I can login to the switch and it will tell me which MAC address is connected to which switch port. Im trying to write a computer inventory program to track my computers and it would be really cool if I could figure out how to determine which computer is plugged into which port on the switch. Problem is that I have no idea how to go about doing that.
Is this anything anyone has tried before or does anyone know how to go about doing it?
Ive been hunting on line but havent found anything useful so far and thought Id ask here in the off chance someone knows what Im talking about.
Communications :: Program Stalling On Network Reading?
Oct 8, 2008I am playing with network sockets as I need to work on a client-server application. So I have tried this simple code from VS help:

So, I supposed that the code above would write the message to the loopback IP (127.0.0.1), it would be kept in the network buffer and would be spited out when it readed the same loopback IP. However, when it gets the line whre it should read the stream, the program just stalls and keep reading it forever. I have tested the stream with as if it was just awaiting for something to read. I have tested the stream with getStream.DataAvailable and it returned me False, what makes me guess that the data is NOT being properly written to the IP.
Firstly I thought that it could be something with the loopback IP, then I tried to provide the machine local IP (192.168.2.25) but I got the same behavior: code stalls...
