I'd like to create a user-defined data type in VB.NET but don't know how to do it.Ta say there's a variable to control the action of a timer control. The possible actions would be "no action", "run timer", and "stop timer." I could do this with an integer (e.g. 0=no action, 1=run timer, 2=stop timer), but I'd rather create a data type so that the options are more explanatory than a simple integer. Like so....

I need something tje user can type in data to such a parts QTY cost etc. There are no predefined parts list so the user can enter any part name/Number and there is no limit to amount of parts that can be entered.
Does anyone have any idea what might be useful. It was thinks of a listview bu i can't see that you can type into that. I cant use comboboxs because there are no predefined list and i know there is some way to generate text at runtime (i think) but i don't know how to do it and i would prefer a clearer approach.
I epochly failed creating an array structure. How would I build it like I tried to do with values for each data type.

How do I determin if a user has given me what I am asking for in terms of data type.
Example if my prompt to the user say "Give me a number of double data type"
How can I tell that the user entered a double xx.yy?
Or if I am testing for integers and I get user input ABC.GH?
I know about CDbl and CInt and CStr but these don't work unless data is provided. Also how do you test if the conversion took place? Also how do you differencate between 12.00 being integer?
I am in the process of migrating from VB6 to VB 2008. In a pixel grid system I have thousands of cells with about 15 properties each. In VB6 I employed the user-defined datatype "udtCell()" as my array structure. Is this still a good approach - or should I perhaps make Cell a class?

I want to be able to see if the values a user inputs into 2 textboxs equals the values assigned to a picture. I put these values in the picture's name and tag. Also the picturebox is getting the image from a random function correlating to an imagelist. How would i go about thisI thought of maybe using a checkbox and coding

I was playing with vb 2008 express and i created a function with no return type. Basically what it does is i specify a table name and a column name and it returns the value within but it doesn't type it until it gets to the calling variables type. So i have on function that i can use across all my tables.

Both return the correct values. were you always able to leave the typecasting till the end and whats the major downfall?
I have a bunch of text boxes that get created on form load depending on a value in a combo box. The text boxes get named in the fasion txtBx1, txtBx2, ect. Then I want to assign values to those text boxes with a button click. However when I try to write the txtBx1.text = "Blah" code under button click, I get 'txtBx1' is not declared. [code]...
I have a WPF application that allows users to create questions of all different types which depending on the type will use a textbox,combobox,checkboxes, or radio buttons to allow the user to answer the question after they build some sort of questionnaire.
