I am stuck on have a user enter data into a DGV and then creating a table out of that data. I need to know how to take the data the user enters into a DGV cell and have addded to the dgv so that it can then be added the a table here is what i got so far:

It has to deal with LOTS of images (100's potentially) There will be the set of default images, and then the user created replacement images. I started loading all the defaults into a resx file... thinking then I could just pull them out. now that I started setting the default, this sucks! lol the app will do this, on load it will set all the images (variables) to the resx images then when a theme is loaded, it will replace the default with the user image (if the user img exists) otherwise, the default stays. Then the "screen" is drawn to show the user. so, here is just the images to build the wallpaper, dock, and status bar...

I have an unbound DataGridView that I am trying to fill with data, but am having a problem with the combobox column. I create the columns like this:[code]That works, and I have my columns like I want them, but I don't know how to add a row AND select the appropriate item in the combobox. I am adding items like this:[code]I can't figure out how to set the combobox column. And to top it off, since I changed the column from a text column to a combobox column, the grid is throwing exceptions, although it doesn't tell me what's wrong, it just tells me to handle the dataerror event, and all that I can get from that is e.Context = 3 and I can't find out what that means. Probably a type mis-match, but I can't find the proper way do select from the combobox. The rows add OK, but when I scroll the combobox column into view the first item is selected then the errors get thrown.

I have code to add the columns and populate the first combobox, but I can't figure out how to do the second one since it can (and usually will) have a different list for each row AND the list must change when the selection in the first is changed.

I'm seriously about to abandon this DataRepeater. I don't want to. I want greater design control than the DataGridView. I've played with various Events for days and have settled on the CheckBox.CheckChanged Event.
What I'm trying to accomplish: My Bound DataRepeater has an UnBound CheckBox in each DataRepeaterItem.When the user 'Checks' the CheckBox, I want to change the value of a NumericUpDown Control to the value of a hidden, Bound Label.

This causes other, seemingly random, DataRepeaterItems (Rows) to also become Checked and thus it's NumericUpDown value to change.Am I going about this from the wrong angle? Can't see the forest for the trees?

View 15 RepliesI created a user control with a label and 2 combo boxes, and a public property called ControlDataSource that accepts a dataset - which it populates the combo boxes with. I added the reference to the VB project I want to use it on and to the toolbox. I was able to draw it on the form with no problem and use it. However, after changing the backcolor on the control and recompiling it, it is no longer seen by the form. When I bring up the form it's used on, I get a white screen with a bunch of xml. The problem seems to be in the designer, and I get an "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. Here is the code from the designer:

The reference error is pointing to the line: Me.UcDx1.ControlDataSource = Nothing
Here's the wierd part. If I hover the cursor over that property, it correctly identifies it as a dataset. So it does know what it is, but it can't seem to use it.
I'm trying to create a function-scripter like program. There is a button, a treeview, and 2 textbox's. TextBox1 is where you enter the name you want to give you're function, and TextBox2 is where you input the actual script of the function you are creating. When you press the button, it creates a Treenode in the treeview with the name of what the user put in Textbox1. how do I bind whatever was in Textbox2 to THAT Treenode?

My problem is that the variable x is an integer and the user input from the InputBox is a string so I get the error: "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'String' to 'Integer'.I've already submitted this assignment with out the first three lines of code (which allows the code to run flawlessly), but I would like to know how to get around the error while still using the Option Strict On parameter. I am aware of the ToString method but I am not sure of how to use it here or even if it will work here. I've tried to use in a few variations but none worked.

After taking a few years off from programming, I decided to start learning vb.net. I have created a user control that contains a picture box. I added some custom properties to the picture box that will hold general string data from a database.
My problem is that the user control is programatically created during run time, and during this time a DoubleClick event handler is added for the picture box that is within the user control.
I need to be able to set the custom properties for the picture box during the creation of the user control, so that when the control (picture box) is double clicked I can read these values but am unsure on how to access them.
The picture box is the entire size of the user control, or I would just add the custom properties right to the user control and add the DoubleClick event handler to that. However, double clicking needs to be done on the picture box since it takes up the entire user control, unless anyone has an idea to trigger the DoubleClick event of the user control when the picture box is double clicked.

View 7 RepliesI have created an access database which i want to search with vb.net, I tried a few thing but it didnt work as desired.
Firstly the program is suppose to display items in the database base on the criteria selected by the user. what i've succefssfully done so far is I've added a datagrid 2 combobox, 1 (searchcbo) with the columns in the database and the other (searchcbo1) will autoload the items under the column selected in and a button (searchbtn) but i have no clue of the code to put in the button. i also tried the fill method but that didnt work as i wanted to. ultimately i want a combobox with the list of columns and a textbox to enter criteria and of course a search button.
The searchbtn should act as the "WHERE" sql command, e.g. SELECT EmployeeNumber, Firstname, LastName, Phone, Location....etc FROM CallLog WHERE searchcbo.text = searchcbo1.text And display the results in the datagrid.

In my project, I have a local dataset (XSD) that I am using as local-temporary tables. I am getting a System.InvalidCastException when trying to access the field in one the tables. I believe this is because I my code is (incorrectly) not setting a field's value in a row before trying to access it.My problem is that the exception is breaking in the designer file and not in my code. As a result, I'm having difficulting determining which line of my code reading the field value before it has been set. Is there any way to configure Visual Studio to break in my code instead of in the designer created file?
