When I try to debug my program, it sometimes catches the first breakpoint, but as I step into each step, it just skips and runs the program. Is there some kind of setting that I can make in vb 2008 express that will allow me to see my code step-by-step?
View 9 RepliesIn my code I had coded Mousewheel event for Picturebox. Then later i observed there was a bug in the part of the code which needed o be corrected.Then i corrected the code and tried to rerun the code. But the same bug still persisted. Later I tried applying breakpoint at the point of Mousewheel event operation.To my surprise the code execution never stooped at the Breakepoint.
What even worse happened was, though I comment the whole mousewheel event code of picturebox, the operation still executes on mouse wheel rotation as if it was what hard coded.
Using VS 2010 Pro SP1 - XP Pro SP3 I set a breakpoint with F9 and the line turns Red. When I press F5 to start debugging, the Red Breakpoint jumps to another line a few lines away.

View 2 RepliesI have a solution with number of projects developed in Visual Studio 2005 and the breakpoint is not working displaying message 'the breakpoint will not be currently hit' No symbols have been loaded for this document. I have tried solutions/suggestions in the forum and none is working. I have deleted the obj and bin directories and nothing worked. Selecting the Debug Menu, Windows, Modules option I can only see the pdb files for some projects (dlls) and cannot see for the project I'm debugging.
View 1 RepliesSometime when I press the run (F5) Start debugging button it does nothing. Often when I have jsut run it and made a quick correction. If left for a while it will then work! Have tried it with simple and complex projects.
Using W7 x64 - never had this problem with VB 2008 express.
Everything was working just fine...then one time running the debugger and I'm given a 401.2 error from IIS Express 7.5. I created a new project and tested - worked fine. I ensured the web.config and other project settings where identical - still getting the error in the original project!

I'm testing my Visual Basic .net application by running it in Visual Studio express.Sometimes it runs OK, but other times I get an exception (details below, if useful). I'm not sure why I get the exception as the particular part of the application that I am testing re-uses code that works OK for other features.
What should I check, what would give me a hint as to the root cause. Things I tried so far are: Rewriting some of the code to be more robust. The outcome of this was that this approach was getting out of control - I was correcting everything. I made changes such asing alternative libraries (e.g. replacing CInt with convertTo etc). Some lazy declarations, but it occurred to me that there was no problem with these with the code before my changes. And every change I seemed to solve uncovered yet another problem, another different exception So I thought something must be fundamentally wrong with my installation, and a search found discussion group posts from people experiencing something similar. The suggested remedy would be to re-install the .net framework. So I did that and the problems still occured.
Any thoughts on approach to get to the root of the problem? I'm not asking for a solution but some fresh ideas would be very welcome.

I have a breakpoint that is not being acted upon, as I am getting an warning saying that : The Source Code is different from the original I have tried to clean the solution, without any luck. I have only one version of the code, so I cannot understand why this is happening.
View 2 RepliesI have written a pontoon game for a college project but i have a problem in which my loop only works when there is a breakpoint in it.The counter is incrementing as i have used a msgbox to display it. The procedure runs the loop and returns the same value in all locations in the array. With a breakpoint it displays correctly in the array.

I'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)

So as it is running I load 2010 Express and try to test some things, but it comes back and says "The operation could not be completed. The Process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."How is that possible when the 2010 Express should be fully contained? I have even named it completely different from the originally application. Am I missing a setting?

I can Add the event to the calendar I have the necessary items on my form linked to my table and I can save them to my table:

I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

I want to step through VB.net 2008 project file. The code is executed from the postbuild command line. Thus this code is really executed during the build process.Thus, can you tell me when I can do to debug this VB.net 2008 program that is executed from the command line? I have SQL 2008 Express and Visual Basic 2008 Express runing on XP Professional SP2. When I select add new data source from VB I don't have the option to connect to SQL Server 2008 express to get at the to SQL Server Database. I also notice that the OLE DB connector is not availble as a data connector. Can somebody please confirm that VB 2008 Express can connect directly to SQL Server 2008 Express and how I can achieve it.

I am attempting to teach myself VB and write a parental control application at the same time, so my learning curve is rather steep. However, I have managed to complete the design of the application with no design time errors, and to my untrained eye, all my code looks like it should work. Unfortunately, when I attempt to debug the thing, it returns an error that looks like Greek to me. I have traced to line numbers I found mentioned in it, but I couldn't find anything wrong. I just need someone to point me to the part of my code that isn't working, and maybe give me an idea of how to improve it.
The project consists of 3 forms: MainForm, WarningForm, and AboutForm. The 1st and 3rd are self explanatory, the 2nd is simply a message popping up telling the windows user that they have 10 minutes before they will be logged off of windows. I cannot imaging why any of the codes on the 2nd or 3rd forms should be causing this issue since they don't activate until either a button is pushed (AboutForm) or after a certain number of hours has elapsed (WarningForm). So unless someone feels that it would be helpful, I won't post those on here.

i run vb.net 2008 in windows 7 (Greek), when i am using the debbuger in vb.net 2008 the messages that i get are in greek (translated from english). i suppose that happens because my operating system is greek, so my question is if there is any way to set up in vb.net 2008 to get messages or warnings in english?
View 2 RepliesI have the most puzzling problem with VS2008 in regards to debugging my programs. Until recently I have been coding in VS2010 but due to some other system requirements with my work issued PC I have moved back to VS2008.All apps I developed in VS2010 always have and continue to debug as expected. However, any app I write in VS 2008 and try to debug, the application immediately ends before the first form is loaded. Again, if I run the same code in VS2010 I have no problems. I did notice the other day that if I debug without being connected to my corporate network, I can debug in VS2008 just fine.

I am about to pull my hair out because I cannot find anything wrong with the code, and I do not get the error when debugging the application in VB! Basically a user enters some medical information on a form in text boxes and adds some medical conditons and medications into two listbox controls on the form, on for medical problems and one for medications they are on. When Button1 (command button) is clicked, it calls a subroutine stored in a module1. Then the application throws and Index out of Bounds error and crashes, losing all information that was entered.
