ASP.NET Server Control - How To Add AssemblyInfo File

Jan 5, 2011

I've noticed on a few tutorials online that when a new ASP.NET Server Control is added, it automatically includes Properties folder (containing AssemblyInfo.cs) and a References folder.

This works fine for me when creating a C# Server Control, but in VB.NET I just get a template .vb file and a Project file.

Why is this and how can I get an AssemblyInfo.vb file?

Msbuild - Modify The AssemblyInfo.vb File Of The Main Executable?

Jan 6, 2011

I currently have a nightly build system running as a windows scheduled task, calling at batch file, that works sort of like this: Check out the latest revision from subversion Modify the AssemblyInfo.vb file of the main executable and the librarys to set the version number to 0.0.0.revision Invoke MSBuild to build everything (including the installer) Upload the installer and a log of the build to an FTP server This works ok, but step 2 is dirty and fragile, and I can't imagine that this the only way to do what I want. Any ideas?

Assembly Version Not Updating Changes From AssemblyInfo.vb?

Jun 17, 2009

I've seen a lot of the "auto version" update add-ons for VS, and well I decided to write one for myself. It's manually triggered, but put as a external tool in the IDE it works rather nice. I based it off of reading the AssemblyInfo.vb file for a project (so at the moment it only works in VB not C#). So my app (given certian parameters) will auto increment the FileVersion and Assembly version together, so they stay the same through out. (it simpler for me that way). But i noticed a little issue with this method of reading the assemblyinfo.vb file, changing the values and saving the file and then forcing a "Rebuild" of the project.

When I go to Explorer, right-click | Properties on the file, in the Version tab, the "AssemblyVersion" has not changed, where the Product and File Version has. so for example I've got Test.Exe I open up the project properties and set via the UI the versions to:

Asp.net - My Custom Server Control Is Generated As System.Web.UI.UserControl In The Designer File?

CWNavigation.vb
<ToolboxData("<{0}:CWNavigation runat=""server""></{0}:CWNavigation>")> _

I then referenced it in my ASPX page. Take note that the control are in the same solution, same project located in Commun/Navigation/CWNavigation.vb.

<%@ Register TagPrefix="NAV" TagName="CWNavigation" Src="~/Commun/Navigation/CWNavigation.vb" %>

I added it to the page.

<NAV:CWNavigation ID="CWNavigationService" runat="server" />

Protected WithEvents CWNavigationService As Global.System.Web.UI.UserControl

Server And Then The Server Converts That Word File To A .TIF And Sends The Image Back?

Feb 25, 2011

I have a client/server application set up that the client sends a word file to the server and then the server converts that word file to a .TIF and sends the image back.The stuff I have now works.Say if I sent the size of the file and the actual file byte() to the server back to back, would the NetworkStream contain both back to back? This what I though would happen. So I implemented a kind of 'turn' based interaction during the duration of the conversion process.

Switch Network SQL Server 2008 R2 Database To A Mobile SQL Server CE *.sdf File

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:

1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.

2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

Upgrade The Framework On The Server - When Run The .exe File From The Server,get A Runtime Error?

Jun 29, 2009

I have several programs that I wrote in Visual Basic.net 2003 that I run from a server at work. We upgraded to Visual Studio 2008 recently and I converted my code to that version. I rebuilt the .exes and tried to run it from the server. It said I needed to upgrade the framework on the server, which I did. Now when I run the .exe file from the server I get a runtime error:

Runtime Error!
Program: d:...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applicaiton's support team for more information.

These programs are very important to the day-to-day operations of the company I work for. I did backup the software before converting it, so we're running normally right now, but there are modifications and upgrades I need to make as soon as possible, but cannot due to the programs crashing when I run the on the server.

C# - Server To Server File Transfer Without Any User Interaction?

Feb 16, 2011

In my scenario, users are able to upload zip files to a.[url]....I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a[url].....From the info i gathered so far,

The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler.

The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job

The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).

how could i implement step 3?

Do i have to read into to a memory() array the whole file and try to write that in b.example.com ?

How could i write the info i read to b[url].....?

Could i perform reading and writing of the file at the same time? No i am not asking for the full code, i just can figure out, how could i perform reading and writing on the fly, without user interaction.I mean i could download the file locally from a.example.com and upload it at b.example.com but that is not the point.

Public Sub UploadFTPFile(ByVal ftpservername, ByVal fullfilepath, ByVal filename, ByVal username, ByVal password)Dim clsRequest As System.Net.FtpWebRequest = _
DirectCast(System.Net.WebRequest.Create("ftp://" & ftpservername & "/" & filename), System.Net.FtpWebRequest)
clsRequest.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(username, password)
clsRequest.Method = System.Net.WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFile

I'm running an FTP Server using Golder FTP Server, which is freeware. I think it's setup correctly because connecting to the FTP Server using the exact same string as above using Windows Explorer works great.

How To Create New Server Control Type

Jun 19, 2012

I'm trying to create a new server control type in ASP.NET. This control would put a RequiredFieldValidator into a certain place. My class inherits from the WebControl class and it has a ControlID property which is the ID of a given control. The RequiredFieldValidator will be generated near the control with the given ControlID. However, the value of ControlID is nothing. In what events can I successfully use this property?

Public Class MyControl
Inherits WebControl
'...
Protected Property ControlID As String
Protected Property IsLinkedBrother As Boolean = False
[Code] .....

But ControlID is Nothing for some reason and the event throws an exception. ControlID is never changed after initialization and it is initialized this way:
<MyControl runat="server" ID="IDValue" ControlID="ControlIDValue" EnableCliendScript="true" CssClass="Whatever" Display="Dynamic" />

Sql Server - Report Viewer Control For 1.1?

Oct 6, 2010

The company that I work for is not so much sacred of new technology they just seem to let things slip, you know the type, "It worked 5/6+ years ago so I don't see why we should change it"Despite this I have managed by hook or by crook to get an installation of SQL server 2008R2 to develop on which has the reporting services. Excellent I think, I can finally start moving some of the access applications to VB.net and use SSRS to provide some embedded reports, everyone is happy.But not so fast, it turns out the standard build of desktop here only has .net1.1. I have managed to dust off a copy of visual studio 2003 (The last edition that could target 1.1) and built a few little tests to check DB connectivity. The problem I am having is the report viewer control is only available in .net2.0 and above.So what options do I have for displaying my SSRS reports in a VB.net1.1 thick client application?

Before anyone asks the following options are out

Going anything web based (Farrrrrrrrrr too modern for the company + no web server)
Upgrading to a version of .net released after George Bush the 2nd lost an election but still became president
Changing jobs

Asp.net - Get User Control Property After Server Transfer?

Apr 14, 2011

I have a host page with multiple user controls in it. Some of these controls have a user created property named Enabled, and is boolean.In some controls the default value for Enabled is set to False. In the host page, I am able to access the property and set it to True. The control does what it is supposed to.On this host page there is a "Run Report" button which executes a Server.Transfer to a "Results" page.In the codebehind of the results page, control values from the PreviousPage are checked via other user created Properties for the controls and added to a ParamterList.

I am attempting to check the Enabled property of the controls on the PreviousPage, however when this is done, it appears that the Enabled property is set to that of the default (in this case False), and not what I had set it to on the page when it loaded.Does the value of this property need to be put into a hidden text box or something so its value is available after the ServerTransfer? It seems like any control which contains a value is retrievable via the PreviousPage and its user created property, but any variable set inside of the control is reset back to its default value.

Find A Control To Upload Big Files To A FTP Server?

Can upload files up to 10GB
Uses passive mode
Provides feedback during upload, to make sure it's going OK
Can cancel and resume
Up to two concurrent connections

I read about WebClient + NetworkCredential, but it doesn't seem to provide progress infos. There are also the FTPWebRequest/FTPWebResponse classes from WebRequest/WebResponse, as well as WebClient.UploadFileAsync.
