Msbuild - Modify The AssemblyInfo.vb File Of The Main Executable?

I currently have a nightly build system running as a windows scheduled task, calling at batch file, that works sort of like this: Check out the latest revision from subversion Modify the AssemblyInfo.vb file of the main executable and the librarys to set the version number to 0.0.0.revision Invoke MSBuild to build everything (including the installer) Upload the installer and a log of the build to an FTP server This works ok, but step 2 is dirty and fragile, and I can't imagine that this the only way to do what I want. Any ideas?

I have created a windows forms application with a lof of images and icons. The main .exe file is getting rather large. About 15mb. I assume it is because all of these images and icons. I use a .resx file to hold the images/icons.
Can I seperate the resource file from the main executable? Into a DLL or something?
I use an auto update program and would like to prevent the user downloading the whole 15mb .exe each time.

I have a program that outputs a file. I want the user to be able to just double-click the output file and launch the program, just like Word and Excel. In Word for instance, one doesn't necessarily have to open WORD then click on File--> Open and locate another Word doc. He can just go to the folder and open the Word doc. I want to implement the exact scenario in my program.
So far I have tried creating TextFile and added it to the Resources. On FormLoading, I simply I stream-read the Resouce file, but I can't write to the Resource on FormClosing, since the Resource is ReadOnly. Also, the Resource is built & compiled so I suppose you can't add anything to it at run time.How you lunch an output file without launching the Executable program that created it?

I've noticed on a few tutorials online that when a new ASP.NET Server Control is added, it automatically includes Properties folder (containing AssemblyInfo.cs) and a References folder.
This works fine for me when creating a C# Server Control, but in VB.NET I just get a template .vb file and a Project file.
Why is this and how can I get an AssemblyInfo.vb file?

In my VB.NET project I have three configurations DEBUG|TEST|RELEASE.
Currently when I am building using MSbuild and TeamCity I hard code the configuration, which smells badly!, to TEST
<Configuration Condition=" '$(Configuration)' == '' ">Test</Configuration>
Now before everyone screams at me not to hardcode this, the reason this was done was becuase we could NEVER seem to get $(Configuration) populated.
So my question is within MSBuild how can I read the currently selected configuration from the solution file commited to SVN?

I made an aplication on windows XP and VB.Net 2008 and works fine, but I moved to Windows 7 and Visual Studio 11 Beta and it wont let me build my aplication and displays this error When I double click on the error msg a window pops up a says "There is no editor available for C:(file path)AssemblyInfo.vb

I have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.

I'm using MSBuild (via NAnt) to compile a bunch of VB.NET assemblies. Because these assemblies depend on COM Interop, I need to guarantee that they run in 32-bit mode on 64 bit OS's. I can get the executable assemblies to compile to 32-bit by changing the project in Visual Studio, but I'd really like to be able to force all of the executables to be compiled to 32 bit mode on the build server.I've tried a number of command-line parameters to MSBuild with no luck:
/p:Platform=win32
/p:Platform=x86
/p:ProcessorArchitecture=x86

We have a CMD file which loads an MSBuild XML file and builds and publishes our VB .NET Web App. I noticed today that one of the user controls we're using is not being copied to the UserControls folder in the output directory. However when I build and publish the project from within Visual Studio 2008 that file is there.
I believe the reason this is happening is because the file that is in the UserControls folder in the project is a shortcut to a file in a different solution within the same project. The ItemGroup XML in the MyProject.vbproj file looks like this:
<Content Include="..OtherSolutionUserControlFile.ascx">
<Link>UserControlsUserControlFile.ascx</Link>
</Content>
In the MSBuild.xml file we have, the following is being run after the solution has been built:
<MSBuild Projects="$(ProjectRootPath)MyProject.vbproj"
Targets="_CopyWebApplication;_BuiltWebOutputGroupOutput"
Properties="OutDir=$(BuildFilesPath)" />
why the shortcut is not being copied to the OutDir?

I have recently stumbled across a problem in the last week where Visual Studio (both 2005 and 2008) will lock up while building my solution. The status in Visual Studio will show "started building" or however the first message reads and then just sit there. At this point, the IDE will lock up (focus is lost and I can not regain it) and my machine's CPU usage will go to 100%. The only way to stop it is to force quit the application or process (either Visual Studio or my Command prompt if I am using MSBuild directly). Of course, the system still seems to be trying to process something because my machine still sits at around 100% basically forcing me to restart my machine to try again.

I've seen a lot of the "auto version" update add-ons for VS, and well I decided to write one for myself. It's manually triggered, but put as a external tool in the IDE it works rather nice. I based it off of reading the AssemblyInfo.vb file for a project (so at the moment it only works in VB not C#). So my app (given certian parameters) will auto increment the FileVersion and Assembly version together, so they stay the same through out. (it simpler for me that way). But i noticed a little issue with this method of reading the assemblyinfo.vb file, changing the values and saving the file and then forcing a "Rebuild" of the project.
When I go to Explorer, right-click | Properties on the file, in the Version tab, the "AssemblyVersion" has not changed, where the Product and File Version has. so for example I've got Test.Exe I open up the project properties and set via the UI the versions to:

I'm trying to convert an existing command line tool into msbuild custom task.This tool logs messages and errors using the System.Console class.I've added to the tool's assembly a class that inherits from Microsoft.Build.Utilities.Task and calls the tool main function, and the custom tool works fine - but no messages/errors are displayed (on the Visual Studio output window).I would like to avoid changing the original tool's code (otherwise I could change every "Console.Error.WriteLine" to "Log.LogError").I thought of changing the stdout and stderr streams of console by calling Console.SetOut and SetError before calling the tool's main function. I'm trying to make a program that has command buttons, each running a different file. I have added some files so far, but I encountered a problem with a couple of them.
For example, I want to run Zuma's Revenge! right from the program, but it is not working. If I run the game from outside the program, it runs perfectly, but when I try running it from the program, it keeps saying "Zumas Revenge! - Adventure has stopped working."
What really confused me, is that the game is running normally if I run it from its folder or by using the shortcut, while from the program it isn't.I'm using Windows 7, with Visual Basic 2010 Express.

I am trying to start an executable file, example.exe. When I run this code I get the fallowing error.

AppActivate(start)
Error:AppActivate(Result) --> Process '5476' was not found.
Every time I start the program I get a new Process error, like 5572 or 5252. What is the reason for this error? Also how can I error trap this so I can find out what the error really is.

I have (with help from you) got 'full' control of Canon image capture and processing with feature recognition, and USB cam capture including frame modification on the fly. I now want to read an avi file and modify it on the run. I have found several C# and C++ routines as a good basis, (Especially the steganography example) if only I could successfully convert them.
