How can I change system properties like: being able to see hidden files or being able to see System files?
So far I can only do that with Particular files

View 3 RepliesI am running into an issue with changing properties of controls on a VB.net project that I am working on. The portion of code that I am having trouble with is re-enabling a couple of buttons and a ComboBox after a Threaded operation completes. The point of it is to disable the buttons after clicking the main "run process" type of button (called cmdCrawlSearch) so that the process can run on a new thread while the form is updated with the status. I was able to learn about Thread Safe calls using delegates in order to update the Text property of the TextBox (txtOutput) on the form, and thought that enabling buttons would be just as easy, but when I am trying, I am either getting an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception, or an "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" exception (from the current version of code) with the InnerException being the Object reference exception. I am posting the portions of code related to the issue, then below it is the InnerException name and stack trace. Perhaps I am not using the Delegates correctly (since I still do not fully understand what can and can't be done using a Delegate.) Or there is a better way to do this.

I have a TableLayoutPanel with a Chart in the 2nd column and 3rd row, and it's ColumnSpan and RowSpan properties are set to 1 (the effect is that it takes up about a quarter of the screen). When I click the chart I want it to take up most of the screen. I was thinking that I would have to change it's Column/Row and ColumnSpan/RowSpan properties, but it might be easier to change the Column/Row values of the table itself. My main problem is that I'm just starting off on Visual Studio 2010 coming from VB6 and I have no idea where to access any of these properties.

When we are typing the msconfig in Start>Run the window is appearing that is named System Configuration Utility . Now I want with WMI and API objects access this data and change them by programming in VB6. Specially, I want to change data on Start-up lists and Boot up services Can any one suggest me a solution?
Note: When I am going to use registry datas in compare of System Configuration Utility I have found that all of applications are not listed in registry + startup folder of windows. I think there is a provider for this issue in windows that returns or manages all applications on startup. I am searching for that.

So the user can add categories, delete them and teh UI would accordingly add or remove controls automatically.I used DataGridView, but since the fetching and storing of data will not be done in a database, I need to fetch it and update it using an HTTP API, the data bindings are causing problems as I need to update, Insert or delete data using functions instead of letting VB do the hard work. I tried creating a datatable and checking for changes everytime user added/deleted/changed a row, but again the problem is: in a datatable I am not able select what type of control represents the column. For Example I have a parent category column where the control needs to be a combo box. The datatable's columns don't seem to provide an option and are automatically set to text box.I am thinking there is a really cool way of doing this that I am unaware of. all the VB.NET books I have read only seem to use DataGridView in conjunction with some sort of a database and not independantly.
View 4 RepliesI've been trying make a mdi notepad that can start up new instances of a "note" which is unique from the other notes as in you can save/change/cut/ copy/ paste in the individual notes without changing the properties of the other notes..something like a tabbed notepad but instead of tab control i have a mdi container. but i can't make it work. View 1 RepliesI have a select statement which was returning the required values but when I changed the OS date from English(US) to English(UK), it now returns null. I believe the problem is concerned with date since in the query am selecting values where the date from the database is the same as the date in a combobox but I don't know what else I can do. It almost looks like the dates in the combox and in the database are not the same and yet the date in the combobox is actually retrieved from the database and has been returning values fine until I changed the system date format.Here's my select command:

I have it working, but� Through a lot of trying, I discovered that the WordBasic line would work. Further exploration revealed the �with dialogs(13)� will work. In a Word macro it would be Dialogs(wdFilePrintSetup) or Dialogs(97)
This is where it gets interesting. While Word.WdWordDialog.wdDialogFilePrintSetup equals to 97 it doesn�t activate the correct dialog. After considerable trying, I found that index 13 does yield the correct dialog box.

We are thinking about changing our current database system, MS Access 2007 front end and MS SQL Server 2005 backend to using a higher level language such as Visual Basic .Net. I wonder if this is the BEST solution for data management? Currently, among others, we have two big database programs that handle more than two hundred users and it's crashed often. That's the reason we think about changing to something that can handle these database programs effectively preferably using MS technology such as .Net.

I have created some check boxes and buttons, and changed the names, but it seems like the system.properties saved both names now I would like to rename the button back to the original name but the name is being stored for some reason, and I cant access the original name, how do I clean this up?

I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)
View 3 RepliesIn the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

View 3 RepliesI'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?
I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:
