Is there any way of determining the type of control and not call the selectall method when the type is datetimepicker. All my other controls support it so that's the only one I need to exclude.

Getting The Fixed Size Control?
Mar 18, 2010I have subclassed a control that would be vastly better if it was a certain size. At first, I thought I could simply set the height and width in the constructor. That would annoy people, as the control would be placed on the form at some size, and the size would then shift when the program starts, but it doesn't work anyways because the control constructor is called before the size properties are applied to it. Is there a way to fix the size of a control at design time? The only controls that I can think of that don't have the ability to be sized are pretty highly specialized.

listView1.Columns.Add("id", listView1.Width / 3); listView1.Columns.Add("Name", listView1.Width / 3); listView1.Columns.Add("Address", listView1.Width / 3);
Assume the ListView1.Width is "30", then each column should be in event width of 10. Furthermore thereshould only be three columns becuase i have added only three columns. However, when i resize teh form, the listview controls shows an additional column.
How this was added? How do i fix this, so that when i add 3 columns it will have only three columns even when resized the form or not
Control Recommendations - Controls At The Top Of It And A Large DataGridView Is Docked Below All The Controls
Nov 10, 2011I have a maximized form that has controls at the top of it and a large DataGridView that is docked below all the controls. Its kind of like the Ribbon in MS Office. The controls cover about 1/4 of the screen at the top. I would like a way for the user to click a button to hide all the controls then automatically expand into the place the controls were so the user can view more data in the DataGridView and visa versa. For example, in MS Office Excel you can hide the ribbon by clicking a tiny button that has "^" on it.
I'm not very familiar with all the controls in Visual Studio so I would like to hear some recommendations. Is this situation ideal for a SplitContainer or ToolStripContainer or am I way off base here?

Sep 8, 2011I am wondering if anyone has any idea how to make the controls stack and fill up the available space left by a control if the control is hidden or removed from the UltraGridBagLayoutPanel.
Example:

[Textbox 5]
If I hide [Textbox 3] as of now, it will disperse the space left equally and pad the remaining text boxes with the space. However, I would like it to do this...

Where all the text boxes will move up and [Textbox 4] will completely consume the space left by [Textbox 3].

Oct 6, 2010i need to do something as the old scholl on vb6, create a control array, i need to put 50 listviews controls and when the form is initialized start asigning properties since i will drag items to each one of those grids, im goin to make a dragdrop event to handle all the 50 controls, dont like the idea of adding handles c1, c2,cn, c50 but whatever, is there soemthing easy to create a routine to change properties and add columns to each one control dinamically?

I'm reading a string say "controlA" and i want to create an instance of the user control with the class name "controlA" and then add it to a base window. I want to have a constructor, but for now I would just like to see it work without.I need to do this: read a string (which is the user control type), create an instance of a user control based on that string, and then add the instance to the current WPF window. I've been playing around with Reflection.Assembly, getType, System.Activator.createInstance, Invokemember, CreateObject, and a few others. I can't seem to get it to work.

Looping Through Controls With A Control Name?
Dec 18, 2009I have 20 controls that I created on a form. the names are like btnRing1, btnRing2, btnRing3, etc.
So I have a do while loop , and I have my variables in place. One line of code is "btnRing1.Start = PlrName" So PlrName is a variable, pulling that info from a database. I don't want to list each btnRing1, 2, 3 in each block of code in my loop.
Is there a way to use the name btnRing + 1, or something like that so I don't have to list all 20 controls in my code.
I know I can dynamically build the controls, but I can only have 20, so I need to have a little control on the numbers. So I need to have the controls already built.

However, in the behind code file for the main page that loads these controls, none of the asp controls show up in intellisense. I had a feeling it's because the controls are loaded conditionally. My question is what is the best way to solve this?
1) Load the controls and do a Select Case in the behind code to make them hidden or not.
2) Is there a way to say (psuedocode): LoadUserControl("UserControl1").Controls("tbTest").Text = ""
3) How can I pass a dataset to the User Control file?

Dynamic Controls In Tab Control Not Updating?
Oct 31, 2011I'm having trouble getting controls in non active tabs to update. I have a tab control with 12 tabs. Each tab displays a custom calendar of days for each month. For each of the days I used label controls. Now the trouble im having is when I re-size the window I want the day labels in each tab to re-size accordingly. I have the re-size function written and working but for some reason it will only re-size the active tab. In order for me to have the labels on the other tabs update to the re-size I need to open each tab as to load it then it will update the controls.I've tried putting Application.DoEvents() in my re-size loop but that didn't work. How can I get the other tabs to update / redraw the controls without having to open the tabs first?

Oct 26, 2010I'm trying to change the look of some controls in VB.An example would be a button, I now have a stack of 4 images on top of eachother. By using the mouseover events and such, I get the same result as a normal button. However, I'd like to be able to insert those images into a normal button like thing.
I know it's possible to do this by creating a custom control, but that'd end up with the exact same code, just in a different file.
However, the real issue would be a dropdown box and slidebar. I'd like to get them to look nice with my theme. (Background, buttons, borders. Things like that..). I got absolutely no clue on how I should do that.
I know that there's a tool to create controls, but that's from scratch and I can't get a grip on it, at all.
User Control With Other Controls As Properties
Jan 18, 2012In my asp.net 4.0 application I have a standard set of tabs controls across the application that has one tab for Search, one for View and one for Reporting.I am in the process of updating those tabs and I was hoping to be able to wrap their functionality up into a single user control since they all function in pretty much similar ways. The issue I am having is how to create a property called SeacrhTab/ViewTab/ReportTab that allows me to assign a different user control to it depending on the area of the application (e.g. CompanySearchControl, ContactSearchControl, etc.) Anyone ever tried to accomplish something similar?

Access Form Controls From Within Custom Control?
Dec 6, 2011I have a form named VBProject It has two TextBoxes and one custom control named MyControl which is created in another project.MyControl's project has a form inside, named Form3. When My control is loaded it needs to find all controls in my VBProject and add them into a listbox which is in Form3. Then Show the Form3. In the end ListView need to shows name and text of textboxes but it shows nothing. Here are my codes:

Accessing Controls On A Panel Without Using Control Arrays?
Mar 2, 2010I have an application that has a grid of rich text boxes on a panel. I would like to access and modify the text in the various rich text boxes during run time. I know this has been brought up a bazillon times over the years, but I would have done this as a series of control arrays in VB 6. Below is a simplified representation of how the textboxes would appear in a panel if control arrays were availble:
rtbA(1) rtbB(1) rtbC(1)
rtbA(2) rtbB(2) rtbC(2)
rtbA(3) rtbB(3) rtbC(3)
I find that I can access the properties of the rich text boxes via panel1.controls.item(x).text, for example, where x is the control index assigned by the panel when I dropped the controls on it.
Since I created the rich text boxes at design time and dropped them on the panel, it has arbitrarily assigned the index values, and they are not in the index order that I would desire.
How does one re-assign a control's index at design time for a controls collection on a panel? And if one has 24 text boxes on one panel, is there a way to break them into subgroups, such as rtbA(), rtbB(), rtbC() with their own index values?
Adding Controls To Child Control On Custom
Nov 17, 2011[Code] I have a panel as the base of my custom control and I am adding other panels to it, along with a flow layout panel(myInnerContainer). I know the code above isn't going to work because when I try to add the regular panels to the main control, they will attempt to be added to the flow layout panel myInnerContainer, and cause a circular error. [Code] but intellisense doesn't display anything which leads me in the correct direction for adding only the buttons to the flow layout panel (myInnerContainer).
