Winforms - Usercontrol With Dockstyle Fill Not Correct Size During Form Load
May 25, 2011My main form has two panels, left docked and right docked. The right side panel has two child panels with top dock and bottom dock settings. The usercontrol is added to the right side top panel. My usercontrol has a panel and a label. The panel is anchored on all 4 sides, the label is anchored on all except the bottom. At runtime I create this usercontrol and set it to dockstyle=fill and then I add it to my top right panel.
With everything set to "fill" I expect that when I add my usercontrol to the panel it will take on the appropriate width and height and pass that info to the child controls (labels) inside of my usercontrol. My problem is that this stretching of the size does not happen when I create my objects during the Load event on my usercontrol. Even though initializecomponent has ran for the usercontrol the panel inside of it (4 corners anchored) has not taken the x/y values of the available space. As a result my usercontrol shows up about 50% of the width I want.

Control Recommendations - Controls At The Top Of It And A Large DataGridView Is Docked Below All The Controls
Nov 10, 2011I have a maximized form that has controls at the top of it and a large DataGridView that is docked below all the controls. Its kind of like the Ribbon in MS Office. The controls cover about 1/4 of the screen at the top. I would like a way for the user to click a button to hide all the controls then automatically expand into the place the controls were so the user can view more data in the DataGridView and visa versa. For example, in MS Office Excel you can hide the ribbon by clicking a tiny button that has "^" on it.
I'm not very familiar with all the controls in Visual Studio so I would like to hear some recommendations. Is this situation ideal for a SplitContainer or ToolStripContainer or am I way off base here?

Sep 8, 2011I am wondering if anyone has any idea how to make the controls stack and fill up the available space left by a control if the control is hidden or removed from the UltraGridBagLayoutPanel.
Example:

[Textbox 2]
[Textbox 3]
[Textbox 4]
[Textbox 5]
If I hide [Textbox 3] as of now, it will disperse the space left equally and pad the remaining text boxes with the space. However, I would like it to do this...

Where all the text boxes will move up and [Textbox 4] will completely consume the space left by [Textbox 3].
Datagridview To Take Control Over Its Controls
Feb 4, 2009I have been trying to work with datagridview to take control over its controls but am face with a hard brick, i have been trying to display text on the rowheaders using code, i cant get around that. an example; on rowheader 1 the text should be 'one' or '1' on rowheader 2 the display should be 'two' or'2' and so on. Looping Through Controls With A Control Name?
Dec 18, 2009I have 20 controls that I created on a form. the names are like btnRing1, btnRing2, btnRing3, etc.
So I have a do while loop , and I have my variables in place. One line of code is "btnRing1.Start = PlrName" So PlrName is a variable, pulling that info from a database. I don't want to list each btnRing1, 2, 3 in each block of code in my loop.
Is there a way to use the name btnRing + 1, or something like that so I don't have to list all 20 controls in my code.
I know I can dynamically build the controls, but I can only have 20, so I need to have a little control on the numbers. So I need to have the controls already built.
Tabpage Controls Out Of Control?

I can place a control on a tab page fine, but when I move it by way of clicking it and dragging it to another location, it leaves behind an outline of where it should be. However, in the behind code file for the main page that loads these controls, none of the asp controls show up in intellisense. I had a feeling it's because the controls are loaded conditionally. My question is what is the best way to solve this?
1) Load the controls and do a Select Case in the behind code to make them hidden or not.
2) Is there a way to say (psuedocode): LoadUserControl("UserControl1").Controls("tbTest").Text = ""
3) How can I pass a dataset to the User Control file?

Oct 31, 2011I'm having trouble getting controls in non active tabs to update. I have a tab control with 12 tabs. Each tab displays a custom calendar of days for each month. For each of the days I used label controls. Now the trouble im having is when I re-size the window I want the day labels in each tab to re-size accordingly. I have the re-size function written and working but for some reason it will only re-size the active tab. In order for me to have the labels on the other tabs update to the re-size I need to open each tab as to load it then it will update the controls.I've tried putting Application.DoEvents() in my re-size loop but that didn't work. How can I get the other tabs to update / redraw the controls without having to open the tabs first?

Oct 26, 2010I'm trying to change the look of some controls in VB.An example would be a button, I now have a stack of 4 images on top of eachother. By using the mouseover events and such, I get the same result as a normal button. However, I'd like to be able to insert those images into a normal button like thing.
I know it's possible to do this by creating a custom control, but that'd end up with the exact same code, just in a different file.
However, the real issue would be a dropdown box and slidebar. I'd like to get them to look nice with my theme. (Background, buttons, borders. Things like that..). I got absolutely no clue on how I should do that.
I know that there's a tool to create controls, but that's from scratch and I can't get a grip on it, at all.
User Control With Other Controls As Properties
Jan 18, 2012In my asp.net 4.0 application I have a standard set of tabs controls across the application that has one tab for Search, one for View and one for Reporting.I am in the process of updating those tabs and I was hoping to be able to wrap their functionality up into a single user control since they all function in pretty much similar ways. The issue I am having is how to create a property called SeacrhTab/ViewTab/ReportTab that allows me to assign a different user control to it depending on the area of the application (e.g. CompanySearchControl, ContactSearchControl, etc.) Anyone ever tried to accomplish something similar?

Accessing Controls On A Panel Without Using Control Arrays?
Mar 2, 2010I have an application that has a grid of rich text boxes on a panel. I would like to access and modify the text in the various rich text boxes during run time. I know this has been brought up a bazillon times over the years, but I would have done this as a series of control arrays in VB 6. Below is a simplified representation of how the textboxes would appear in a panel if control arrays were availble:
rtbA(1) rtbB(1) rtbC(1)
rtbA(2) rtbB(2) rtbC(2)
rtbA(3) rtbB(3) rtbC(3)
I find that I can access the properties of the rich text boxes via panel1.controls.item(x).text, for example, where x is the control index assigned by the panel when I dropped the controls on it.
Since I created the rich text boxes at design time and dropped them on the panel, it has arbitrarily assigned the index values, and they are not in the index order that I would desire.
How does one re-assign a control's index at design time for a controls collection on a panel? And if one has 24 text boxes on one panel, is there a way to break them into subgroups, such as rtbA(), rtbB(), rtbC() with their own index values?
Adding Controls To Child Control On Custom
Nov 17, 2011[Code] I have a panel as the base of my custom control and I am adding other panels to it, along with a flow layout panel(myInnerContainer). I know the code above isn't going to work because when I try to add the regular panels to the main control, they will attempt to be added to the flow layout panel myInnerContainer, and cause a circular error. [Code] but intellisense doesn't display anything which leads me in the correct direction for adding only the buttons to the flow layout panel (myInnerContainer).

Cannot Move Child Controls In Tab Control Pages
Feb 24, 2011I've created a tab control and on one of the pages I added a button, but I cannot move the button around with the mouse!? I can change the buttons position within the tab control page using the property Location and I can size the button using the mouse and the button is NOT locked. I even tried creating a new project with just the tab control and it still does the same thing. I can, tho, move the button using the keyboard arrows!
I'm using VS2010 V10.0.30319.1 RTMREL on WinXP SP3.

I modified the code programmatically to Loop through a For-Next loop to create 6 objects using the same UserControl. After creating these objects, I proceed to perform graphics on each control to draw a rectangle of which is in the center of the control by using a Timer_Tick event.

Filtering Bound Controls Based On Another Control?
Oct 15, 2010I have a form with some textboxes on it. The textboxes show values from a table. I have a binding navigator that lets you step through the records in the table and the textboxes update. What I want, is to have a control, say a listbox, that allows you to select a value which will filter the data behind the controls so that you only have one record.
So, for example, say you have a table of contacts. There are textboxes on your form that show name, phone, address etc. You could then have a listbox that showed a list of all the contacts and you could select one, which would in turn the textboxes. The filtering field could be contactID for example.
