Data Manipulation (INSERT,UPDATE) Using DataSet Object?
Nov 7, 2009
I am writing a program with VB.NET, there I have to select data from one table. Then I have to update about 4 tables and insert to 2 Tables. Which approach will be ok for me? I'm thinking to use DataSet.
I am using UltraGrid for inserting data in table. The problem is that i need to do insert, update, delete with web service. I am getting dataSet from web service and display it into grid but when I do some changes on the grid for example insert or update data, I need also to send new dataSet to web service so that web service do update data.
when i try to insert data from database into dataset using data adapter, it takes long time, i want to use hourglass but i'm confused how or when i type the code so user will know that application still work.
I have an office project which shoudl basically do the following:
1) take different TEXT files of fixed-length fields and put them in separate tables.
2) use the data from the different tables and compile them to a master table in a mdb.
3) display data in compiled mdb in datagrid 4) allow editing in datagrid 5) save the data in datagrid into the mdb 6) save the data in datagrid in a csv file i did some googling and came up with the following code:
I want to track changes in an application. So I've made a copy of the main table in that application, and am accessing both tables in the application using two separate datasets.
My plan was to use the HasChanges method of the main DataSet to get changed rows and then insert those into the copy table. When I run the code I get an error:
A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in MyApp.exe
Unable to cast object of type 'MainDataTable' to type 'MainAuditDataTable'.
Here's the code:
If Me.DataSet3.HasChanges Then ' 'look for each row that has changes, not new rows ' 'insert that row into the auditing table
How to ensure data integrity in multiple table update (which have relationship like reference of a column)[code]Now when I update the tables in datagridview in win form .and update it using dataadapter .update then how to make sure that all the data is updated correctly.
I have looked through the entire internet (well that's what it feels like) to find this out.Tables - Authors and Titles add new title must be linked to an author, so I need to check that the author exists, if so, update the titles table with the user data from the textboxes. If the author does not exist, I need to insert the author first & last name into the author table, then the title info into the title table.this is in VB, using ASP.NET, and my database is a file, I'm not using SQL server, just Visual Studio 2008.
Dim insertParameters As New ListDictionary() insertParameters.Add("ISBN", ISBNTextBox.Text) insertParameters.Add("Title", titleTextBox.Text)
I'm developing an application for my ping SQL Server 2005 as database and VB.Net 2008. Ive created the form and successfully connected all text boxes etc. Using the code, I have managed to open the database and fill the dataset. However when I BIND the Datagrid datasource to the Dataset, I can only see the COLUMN NAMES in the datagrid and not the rows or the data. How to Insert, Update and Delete data. I'm fairly new to VB.Net but I have used VB6 before
Private Sub cmdAdd_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdAdd.Click Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection Dim dbprovider As String Dim dbsource As String Dim ds As New DataSet [Code] .....
I have a project in which i have a form in which there is add button to add pages. In form load the last entered page populates all the fields. Now thing is if user edits the values in controls it has to update the db with those fields and if the page doesn't exist in db it has to insert.
Here is my code Private Sub inserting() Dim cn As New OleDb.OleDbConnection 'Dim selectquery As String cn.ConnectionString = "" Dim cmd As New OleDb.OleDbCommand [Code] .....
I initialized a global variable x and set its value to 0 in page load and in add button click to 1. Depending on x value it either inserts or updates the db in form closing and add button click. Now whats happening is If the user clicks on add button the page increments but if user doen;t enter any values and tries to close the empty form, value of x =1 and it tries to insert but as there are blank fields cmd.executenonquery throws an error.
"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."
What should I do so that it doesn't give an error. I am using access db.I even checked in db Except for primary key(pageno) all other fields have "allow zero length" as YES & "required" to NO.
I'm not so good in databases and SQL. At the moment, I have a interface of a simple payroll system as well as a database design. I got 4 tables consist of Employee, Payroll, Deduction and Salary as you can see in the picture link below. Btw, I'm using VB 2008 express edition and mysql 2008.
Interface Design: [URL] Database Design: [URL]
My question: How can I link them properly? did I link them properly? How can I save the data into 3 different table from the interface u can see.
How to Insert, Delete and Update Data in a Datagridview using MySql as the database? There is a textboxes and button that adds data in the database and i want it to be refresh the datagridview.
I have a gridview loaded with data from my database and a gridview swapping function which after exchanging data between rows with a column call "Priority", I want to save these changes back to my database. Only the "Priority" column value will be change, how do I update only that Column of my dataset table to my SQL database?
I have written some functions that I have in a module. In one of the functions I would like to update a table that is in a dataset. I would like to do this with this function and not from a form class where the table could be bound. I need to call the function from various places in the application.
I am trying to read JSON data from a server to a dataset object, any idea on how this can be done. I have tried using the DataContractJsonSerializer class but it only seems to work for objects.
JSON Data { "firstName": "John", "lastName": "Smith",
[code]....
The code above works to an object, but I want to parse the JSON data to a dataset object.
I've made a dataset using the dataset designer, and I'm trying to add a column to reflect changes made to the database (added a column, nothing fancy). Is there a way to 'refresh' the dataset schema from the datasource without deleting my adapter (and all the methods and queries I've created)?
I am looking for a vb.net library where I can insert data into an object and have it spit out a json formatted string, and also take the string in again to rebuild the object.I am not that concerned with mapping it to preexisting objects.I have searched around and every single library I've found either can't read the strings in again, interprets them as one long string instead of breaking them up into parts, or fails to work entirely (asp.net can't even find any public members).
I got a system which i want to insert, delete, update the data into my database and the data from database will be display using datagrid. The below is the coding for one of my button, delete.
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click Try btnSearchEmpNo.Enabled = False[code].....
Now I wanna set when user click on this button to delete a employee (for example) then the datagrid that i have in my application will not show the data of the deleted employee but in the background, the employee haven't been deleted from database. The employee only will be deleted from database when the user click on SAVE button.I know this application have to use RowState but how?
[code]...I am using above method to update the newly added value and modified values. It generates many duplicated rows in the database table. If my datatable object has been both newly added rows and modified rows, what is the best to update the database?
When ever I try to update a record from data grid using a dataAdapter record it always showing ' update requires a valid insert command when passed data row collection with new rows' From specific sql server Table only. Resulting me holding up a project.
I am converting some VB6 code which passed an unknown form object to a class, which then used the passed form object to reference the calling form and direct the data from the class as follows: The Called Class in the class clsGetRecord Public Function Execute(ByRef FRMForm as form) as booleanFRMForm.List1.Additem(SomeData)....Execute = SomeBool End Function The clsGetRecord is used by many different forms which receive data all have objects called List1 as: The Calling Form for the form frmThisFormPrivate function() as booleanDim objRecord as new clsGetRecordbRet = objRecord.Execute(frmThisForm) The passed form object which will receive dataEnd function. Is there any simple way to do this since the calling form object is unknown at design time?
I understand that there are several ways of Inserting, Updating and Deleting records in a database such as DataAdapters, DataSets, TableAdapters, SqlCommandBuilders, Parameterized SqlCommands, StoredProcedures, etc, etc, etc. According to David Sceppa Sprocs are the most preferred. Ok, I go with him on this one (who am I to challenge him anyway?).
My question is, apart from Sprocs, which of these options is the BEST for a large commercial database application and why, taking performance into account? What are the benefits and drawbacks of each option?
I have eight text boxes each can have any numerical value only consisting of the numbers 1-8 up to eight digits each. No 0's or 9's.I am using a timer to loop through the sequences of text boxes at a given rate. This is already configured. Now here's the hard part so bare with me.I need to output the first value of a text box, wait some time then output it's counter letter (below the number on the keyboard), go to the next text box and repeat. Example:
I use a simple master-detail form using Visual basic 2005 express edition and ms sql server 2005 express edition, as well.
The master table is dept (deptno int, dname nvarchar(50)) .
The deail table is emp (empno int, deptno int, ename nvarchar(50)).
The primary key for the dept table is deptno and for the emp table is empno.
There is also a foreign key (deptno on emp table).
I created a new project, connected to a db (called test.mdf) and created a data source consisting the two of the above reffered tables.
I dragged and dropped these tables on the form and i noticed the following:
1)When the form opens... the system queries the database and displays the data on each block on the form.
2)I insert and/or update a record on the master table (dept) and everything goes well...
3)I try to insert and/or update a record on the detail table (emp) and nothing is changed on the detail table - without any error.
4)When i try to insert and/or update a record on the detail table (emp) which violates the primary key constraint or foreign key the system complaints...(as expected).
