Different Connection String Share Same Web Service
Dec 7, 2009
I have a web application that has a web services as a web reference. The web main application has the connection string value stored in the web config. The web services consist of a web config file that store the value of connection string. Sometimes, I have different version of main web application that use different connection string but share the same web service. So I want the web services get the connection string value stored in the web config file of the main web application. How to do that?
I have tested my code in a windows form project and it works great. so now I want it to run as a service. The problem i have is referring to "name" in my configuration string which is in app.config.
Dim settings As ConnectionStringSettings = _ ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings(Name)
(Name) is under-squiggled and message name is not declared, file IO functionality is available in the microsoft.visualbasic namespace.
In all the Windows Forms Projects I've been able to share a dataset between the forms without a problem, so I assumed that it would be the same in a Windows Service. The issue I'm having is getting Class B to reference an existing dataset in Class that contains data. "Serv" is the class containing the dataset. When I say "Dim Serv1 as New Serv" and then declare my dataset/datatable references, the debug is showing that the dataset is empty, but I know the dataset contains data because I filled it in another sub procedure and checked that it contains data. How do I share a dataset between classes in a Windows Service?
I had a problem getting a VB.NET web service client to receive the response object from a Java web service. In the process of posting this question someone from another department volunteered some code written for a similar situation.I couldn't find this anywhere on the net so I'm completing my question to help others out.[code]The web service is Apache CXF with some Spring elements mixed in.
How do I assign a My.Settings.Item connection string to cmd.Connection connection string value?

I got this Error Message while I try to preview the records in Dataset Designer:"The connection string could not be found or Data provider associated with the connection string could not be loaded"

I didn't saw much samples about tcp file share. They look similar to what I am using to send string. My question is : Does these codes work with any kind of files? And May I have some hints about how to do it?
I understand the possibilities for encrypting a connection string in .net v4. I have a win forms application that will be used by multiple people on different machines. I understand that I need to protect the connection string at time of the app being first run on the target machine. However I am concerned that for a period of time my connection string will be unencrypted. I am looking for advice in how to deploy my app with the connection string already encrypted or encrypted during installation. encrypting the connection string in a secure way?
I'm developing an app in vb.net (visual studio 2008). I have a Teradata back-end that will be supporting multiple users in a production environment. I need to use variables in the connection string as the user/pass will be changed every 3 months.
For the gist of the application:
In it's most basic form - I have a search form which works correctly - it pulls results into a listbox and the user then double clicks the list box which will then open a form that is bound via table adapter to the back-end table (Teradata). My connection string is fine everywhere in the application. My problem is using a modified connection string for the "fill" function of the table adapter once the form is opened.
I'm using the code below for the on-load event and keep getting an "invalid connection string" - again, the connection string works fine everywhere else in the app, and the variables etc... are working correctly.
Private Sub adaptertest_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim DBConnStr As String = "Provider=TDOLEDB;Data Source=TDDEV;Persist Security
I'm facing a problem after installation any software setup that has a database in access(mdb file) How to I transfer file path in our connection string.
What is the best way to check if a web service is up and active? I realize there are many different factors to this, but I would like to do something simple before sending data, like at the moment the proxy is constructed to see if the service is able to be connected. I am coding in vb.net.Is there even a best practice for this type of comm?
I am trying to connect DSN from my VB 2008 project. When i try using myoledb.connectionstring="DSN=myDNSname" I get the following error message An OLEDB provider was not specified in the connectionstring.
I have a VB.net web service that returns JSON that works fine. Once the response gets to a certain size though, the client browser says that the server has closed the connection and sent no data. This is true using IE, Chrome, or Firefox. The magic size seems to be about 16383 records, or about 1.13MB of data. I know this is slightly large for a web service.
Why doesn't an exception get thrown when this function is called when there is no ConnectionString set for the Connection? I just spent 15 minutes debugging and staring at it and finally figured out it needed the connection string. Shouldn't an exception get thrown?
Friend Function GetValues(ByVal TableName As String, ByVal FieldName As String) As DataTable Dim cn As New SqlConnection Dim cmd As New SqlCommand[code].....
I found similar forum thread [URL], but he don't have answers. How I can conncect | send | recive data using tcp connection with specific internet service (not web).
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a generic class and is not marked as [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit interface as the default interface to COM using the ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I have a windows service I created that checks for data to post to an off site webservice over SSL. The service checks every 10 seconds for data to send, if there is data it opens a connection to the remote webservice, and closes the connection after 120 seconds (still checking for data to send during this time). The service works fine if a user is RDP'd into the server, but as soon as no one is logged on and the service attempts to push data, I receive the following error:"The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send."I have tried running the service as a local service, network service, under my login, and under a service account, but nothing seems to work. The PC it is running on is a windows 2003 server (virtualized - vmware)
Protected Overrides Function GetWebRequest(ByVal Uri As Uri) As System.Net.WebRequest Dim oWebrequest As System.Net.HttpWebRequest = MyBase.GetWebRequest(Uri) oWebrequest.KeepAlive = False oWebrequest.ConnectionGroupName = Guid.NewGuid.ToString oWebrequest.ProtocolVersion =
I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') ( if I stop the UAC then it runs ok ). It seems to be a rights issue,
The FxCop says in a rule that generic List should not be exposed to the outside world. But I do not understand why and what is the replacement for the generice List? url...
After using the following code, no errors are shown, but my database is not updated once i have made a change using my management system application.
Dim constring As String = Application.StartupPath.ToString() + "mydatabaseName.mdf" Public c As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=" + constring + ";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" Sub openConnection() conn.ConnectionString = c conn.Open() End Sub
I using SQL Server 2008 R2 to connect with HTML page. I trying to connect HTML page with login to SQL Database. I have try called the Source but didnt work.
I am developing a software which will connect to a SQL SERVER situated at Head Quarters over a VPN connection. But for times when VPN is disconnected I want my applications at the branches to connect to a local Sql Server installed at a local server. Now all the applications at each of the local machines have their connectionstring stored in their App.config file. When the VPN is disconnected we have to change each of the connection strings on all the applications in each machine. Is there a way to do it automatically switch the connection string depending on whether the Server is reachable or not, and to store the connectionstring at centralised location.
I'm trying to change my connection string to w/e the user wants. After a few tips here and there, this is what I've come up:
1: In my settings I've added - Name(login), Type(String), Scope(User), Value(Nothing)
2: Here is the code I'm using
Private Sub LoginForm1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'Here I'm checking if the login in my.settings is there 'If not, I'm going to let the user choose what database
[code]....
The error I get is: Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.here -
Dim con As New OleDbConnection(My.Settings.login)
When I have my con equal to when I added the datasource from it works.
