Display A Progress Bar While Running A Macro From Module 1 ?

Jun 24, 2009

I have seen numerous sites that provide examples on creating progress bars. I would like to know how to "call" the progress bar (created as UserForm1) to update a completion percentage of records processed from a Main macro in Module 1.

Get Type (x64 Or X86) Of A Running Process In Macro Code?

Jan 22, 2010

I'm writing a macro to automate the process of attaching to the IIS worker process (w3wp.exe, Windows Server 2k8) from Visual Studio. The trouble is that I often two app pools running at any given time, one in x64 mode and one in x86 mode. This means there are two processes called w3wp.exe running at any given time, and the only way to distinguish between them is the mode they are running in. When I use the "Attach to Process" dialog, there is a "Type" column that shows that information so I know which w3wp.exe to attach to, but I can't figure out how to get that information in my macro.[code]....

Or should I try something different? [Code]

Running A Progress Bar On A Separate Thread?

Apr 11, 2012

I've made an application which goes through a long procedure when a button is clicked. I don't want the user to think the program has frozen, so I'd like to add a marquee progress bar just to show that it's still running. However, if I simply add the progress bar and make it visible when the button is clicked, the bar will appear but freeze and wait for the procedure to finish before it starts scrolling.

I know this is due to both the procedure and the progress bar running on the same thread, but the tutorials I've seen on getting a process to run on another thread seem confusing. What is the simple way to make a progress bar run on a separate thread?

Database - Running SQL Query From Module With A Function Call From The Form?

Jan 28, 2010

I have a form set up where I want to run the function PopulateGrid on it's Form_Load event. I have initialized the DB connection as follows:

Private Sub Main_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
LoadConfigFile()
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & config("DatabasePath") & ";")
cn.Open()
End Sub

Now, I want to run the PopulateGrid function directly after I connect to the database as shown above. I'm confused as to how I'd use a database query in a module when the database is initialized in my main form. Would simple setting the variable cn to public work?

Quit An Excel Macro Externally (from A GUI Not From Macro)

Oct 21, 2010

I'm have a program (GUI) that interfaces with excel to execute macros. We're using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel to call/run the macros and this works great.What I can't figure out is a good way to cancel the macros from the GUI.One idea we had was to use the excel.application variable that runs the macros to write a "stop" value to a specific cell in the workbook, and in the macros (they are all mostly loops), check for the "stop" value in that cell. This crashes my GUI with this The program '[2188] BVLReports.vshost.exe: Managed' has exited with code -336589910 (0xebf00baa).And excel gets tied up, and won't respond. I know how to Exit Sub from within the macro if the "stop" value exists, so I don't need answers on how to check/cancel from inside the macro. Any ideas on a better way to write this "stop" value or a better way to cancel the macros externally?

Force A Progress Bar To Update During A Long-running Operation In Program?

Dec 19, 2010

I am running a test program for VB.NET, and it will simply crunch a million numbers in for loop. I've linked a variable implying the progress of the for loop with the progress bar, but it seems that when I run the program, the progress bar does not update itself. The bar itself has only value 0-100 as input (as stated in the document) and I've tested it without using the for loop, and it works.

VS 2010 Backgroundworker Thread Running Faster Than The UI Can Update Progress?

Nov 15, 2011

I have a VB.NET 2010 app that uses a backgroundworker to process MS Word docs. All of the code does what it is supposed to do, except when my code calls ReportProgress(). The UI cannot process the ProgressChanged event fast enough before the values in the class that are passed are changed. I know this because I inserted a System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100) line after each ReportProgress() call which allows time for the UI to make the updates properly. I guess I am looking for a better solution thanThread.Sleep(100) since this adds to the amount of time it takes to process all of the files. Here are some snippets of code that I am using:

Display Total Up Value From Progress Event

Jun 21, 2010

I'm trying to display the total extraction progress of a zip file as below. This gives me the total file size of all uncompressed files in the zip:
For Each backup In zip
TotalSize = backup.UncompressedSize + TotalSize
Next

I'm then using this to get the current bytes transfered:
TranferTotal = e.BytesTransferred + TranferTotal

The problem is this value resets after each file is extracted from the zip. I was expecting the above to "tally up" the total so I could use it for the progress bar but it seems to still reset after each item? Also, I'm using a global varible for the transfer total, if there a better method to transfer this information to the StepEntryProgress? The reason I'm doing this is because the DotNetZip Library does not support multiple extraction in this way, so I need to tally up in this way.

Code:
Imports Ionic.Zip
Imports System.Threading
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class Form1
Dim TotalSize = 0

Display Progress Similar To Debug.writeline On Windows Form?

Sep 28, 2011

I have a procedure that loops through the directories/subdirectories on a file server and sets the permissions. Procedure is called on a button click of a form.

I need to display on the form which directory is being processed. Similar to if we use the Debug.writeline which writes to the output in Visual Studio. I tried using a ListBox but it only displays the last one and only displays the last one once processing is done. I want to be able to display each directory name as it is being processed.

Psuedo code as follows:

For each dir in L drive

setPermissions(dir)
'display in ListBox dir name
lstProgress.Items.Add(dir.Name)
Next

VS 2008 - How To Make Progress Bar To Display Drive Free Space

Aug 22, 2010

I'm trying to make the progress bar to display the amount of free space C: has. I have successfully do so with my code which is:

Vb.net
Try
Dim b As String
Dim c As String
Dim dvr As New DriveInfo("c:")
b = CStr(dvr.TotalSize 1000000)
c = CStr(dvr.AvailableFreeSpace 1000000)
[Code] .....

As a last touch to this code I thought I would add a percent bar so it would look more professional. I did so with:
Dim Per As String = (c b * 100)
The problem is that it displays always zero percent why?

VS 2010 Get Form To Display Before Running Function?

Sep 29, 2011

Currently the process is in VBS, however this means there is no real interface.I attempted to get this into HTA, but this doesn't work to well due to known issues - the interface doesn't update with information until the end of the code (functions) are executed.So I thought I would create a VB program to do the work.Ideally, I would have a form load, and once loaded the functions (which map drives accordingly) will display the results on the screen.My code should be pretty sound - it is working - but it seems to be invoking BEFORE the form is displayed.I have tried various subroutines, such as Form1_Load, Form1_Activate, Form1_Shown, but all of these execute the code before the form has loaded and is displayed on the screen.As a test, I have

Private Sub Form1_Shown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
lbl_Head01.Text = "HELLO WORLD"

[code].....
