I want my vb.net dll to get the data sent from c++ project(exe). Can any body help on in what form this void pointer can be sent via pipe. The void pointer corresponds to enums or structures. I have to get this structures/enums on the vb.net dll end. I have mentioned about using pipe. My question is as what type the pointed to data can be send over the pipe so that I can easily handle the received data at the vb.net dll end.
View 1 RepliesI have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

I have a button that when clicked, creates an instance of a new form and assigns a value to .tag. I have the following code:
Private Sub btnNew_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnNew.Click
If Me.Tag = "NBI" Then
Dim NBIForm As New frmNewNBI

I'm just wondering if there is any way to dock a separate process in my form? For example, Firefox.
View 2 RepliesI have created a porcess that manipulates large volumes of text. I have created a form that has a button that manually starts the process. I have tried to give some feedback that the process is actually progressing through the data by changing the value of text fields on the form. However the text fields do not update on the form until after the process is complete. I had this working in another program but cannot figure out what I am doing different.I use the following code to change the text.[code]
View 2 RepliesI have a form, with a lot of controls on it, and I make the form to be a mdi-form. When the application begins, the main form will show the mdi form, and maxmizes it.
My question is, the maxmize process of the mdi-form is showing to the user, that's very bad looking. We can see the mdi-form show itself on the screen with it's original size, and then change it's size to mazmize itself. During the process, it look like all the controls on the mdi-form are shining.
I want to hide the maxmize process to be not seen, and make the mdi-form visible AFTER it's Maxmize process. But I don't know how to do this.
I tried this:
Mdi-form.visible=0 in the form_load of the mdi-form, but I don't know where to do the Mdi-form.visible=1. I can't find the event of Maxmize process.
Bit of a Noobie question here, I have a process, for example[code]...
I need to launch the process from within code in a form or module and I want to monitor its progress, for example with a progress bar.
The problem I have is that in order to use a 'progress form' I have to show a form modally, then kick off the process (usually with a button) and allow a cancel option.
I want the form to show then start running automatically without user intervention.
I want to show in my form, something to show the user that the program is working just wrote a Label, but Visual Basic Freeze during the process and the label it can not seen and there is not signal to know that the application is working.
View 1 RepliesI am working on a program and for some reason when I run it as an executable outside of debug mode, if I run the main subroutine of the program, the process remains in memory after being closed. Even though the form is closed/gone, it will be in the process list and I have to ctl-alt-del to remove it. If I exit right after opening the form without doing anything, it closes like normal. I am closing and disposing everything I can think of, and I've never had this problem before. This is how I am exiting, but the problem also occurs if the user "X's" out.
Me.Close()
Application.Exit()
I have a couple web file requests in my program, which is the only thing out of the ordinary (code-wise) for me, don't know if those are the root of the problem. I can't imagine this is the first time this has happened to anyone, but I couldn't find anything helpful with my search terms. Any ideas/common solutions? I can post sections of my code if it will help, but the whole thing is pretty long and I couldn't narrow down any potential problem areas.

What I'm trying to do is show a form while a background process is running. Similar to a progress bar but not a progress bar. We have a form that has an animated gif (customer request) and that's it. no other controls. They want this form to show while the processing in the background is running.
View 5 RepliesI have made simple application for access database.I have designed my GUI ,with background image and some button given a colours.
When I run my application all controls are not seen at once , rather it takes time to display it on form. When there was initially no background image it was working smooth.
I have searched everywhere, and have not found an answer. I would like to know how to enable your form to detect if a process is started. Something like this:
If Process.Start("Process.exe") Then
MsgBox("Process is running")
Else
MsgBox("Process is not running")
End If
I am automating a javascript web form submission process using webbrowser. I would like to use something without a UI but don't think httpresponse etc would do all that is needed. My code works but I think is not designed correctly. I think I should be breaking each step into its own sub or function. In its current state I think every time a page is refreshed/redrawn all the code is running which makes causes endless looping of clicking a link which is on its own destination page. What that means is click the link and the page refreshes with new information but does not navigate to a new page. So the code looks for the link and selects it over and over and over .... This I think needs to be subbed or done as a function instead.
Here's the code.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Part 1: Load elogging login page in Form_Load event
WebBrowser1.Navigate("[URL]")
[Code] .....
I have VB.NET application in which one of the form has IE control in it, the application starts initially with memory size consumed around 9 MBs, but when IE form is launched, the memory consumed rises to 27 MB, and when that form is closed, the memory reduces merely by 3-4 MBs, so why memory allocated to IEFrame is not de-allocated automatically?
View 3 RepliesI am currently working in a very large solution (120+ projects). Very often, we need to find a particular form in a large desktop application, consisting of hundreds of forms. For example, we might have a requirement to edit some controls on a certain form.We don't know the form name, but we know how to navigate to the form when running the application.
In order to identify a form, we currently try to find some unique text on the form, and then search all the source files for this string. That's not very cool.Instead, I'd like to make a little tool that can identify the source file for a form, or at least the name property of the form object. We can't add code to the solution itself, so we will have to make an external exe.
I'm trying to consolidate my application's dependencies. In this case, I have a console application (MAD - MPEG Audio Decoder) that I want to embed into my application. I've added it as a resource, but how can I reference it as a file? [code]...
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to automate a product that provides no such automation capability.I've take a cursory look at loading the app in a separate AppDomain, and also, through reflection, executing the Program.Main() to get the app running. I also tried getting the windowhandle from a separately created Process object (which I've learned will not work). If I have a reference to their assembly added to my project so I can reference an instance of "TheirProduct.FormMain", what, if it's possible, is the best way to go about capturing events from that form? What I need to do is to be able to capture a couple events, and perform a few Button.PerformClick() against the form.
View 1 RepliesI have a form that consists of only a TableLayoutPanel (which fills the entire form) containing a vertical stack of buttons. The resulting app is used in conjunction with another app. What I would like is to have the vb app do something when the mouse enters the form. Unfortunately, all mouse enter/leave events are trapped by the panel or the buttons.
As a quick test I created a form with a tablelayoutpanel (docked to fill the form) containing one button. I added the following code:
Private Sub Form1_MouseEnter(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles
[code].....
I got a strange form in my project that doesn't close when I close it, so every time the user will use it, it will stay on system processes. The form is not even shown on the taskbar when it is loaded. It is just a regular form - System.Windows.Forms.Form.
View 9 RepliesI have an MDI form as the app start object.I don't think is related, but in the Form closing event, I check for some condition, and if it's true, I ask for confirmation before closing:
Private Sub FormBackground_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
If (e.CloseReason = CloseReason.UserClosing) Then[code].....
So long, everything works fine in my development machine, which runs windows XP.However, when deploying the application in a windows 7 machine, the message box works correctly, showing itself whenever it should, but after the form is closed the application keeps running in the background. This happens whether the form closes directly or asks the user first.I have fixed it putting an End instruction in the FormBackground.FormClosed event, but it doesn't feel good.
I'm developing Applications in VB.NET 2008.
I have MDI Parent Form and i'm going load all form as MDI child. Here i'm going to give option to "Close All" toolstripbutton in top of MDI Parent to close All mdi child forms.
Now i would like to check that On click of Close All Toolstripbutton , i have to close all mdi child form but except those form is on process, example, I have opened/Loaded 5 MDI child forms within MDI Parent Form.
Child forms are ( just for example ) ,
1. Customer details Form
2. Item Details Form
3. Import Orders Form
4. Stock Details Form
5. Production Entry Form
Here 3.Import Orders form is importing from Excel with 5000 records and 4. Stock details form exporting to excel.
So now if i click "Close All" button then i have close only Idle form i.e 1,2 and 5 but i should not close 3 and 4 since its on some process.
So Is there any .NET option to check that form in process/idle or do I have to check manually by having any Flags ?
My form contains lots and lots regular expression and other things in one button. whch when pressed takes some time to process.. so the form kind of gets stucked while the processing is bieng done.is there any coding for which it diables the entire form until the process is completed? like disabling the entire form and showing a text "please wait ... processing data" so user can not use other buttons or features at the same time or it might get crashed.
View 5 RepliesI've created a very simple form with one button on. I need it so when the form runs, it opens in the bottom right hand corner of the screen regardless of the resolution. It also needs to be always on top of all other applications.
When the buttons pressed, i need it to close all iexplore instances and reopen a fresh instance.
I've tried to search for the answer but to no avail.
I am usng a multi threaded process to fire off a task, but when it is completed I want to make a label visible on the main form (form 1), eg "process completed", however the code I have in place comes up with the following error message;
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'lblCompleted' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
When multithreading in VB, if you close the form while different threads are running, the process itself will not end. Is there a way I can force all threads to end, or end the process like in the Task Manager, when the form is closed?
