Events - The Selection In A Box Can Affect The Possible Choices In Subsequent Boxes
Mar 10, 2009
I have a project that has several combo boxes on one form. The selection in a box can affect the possible choices in subsequent boxes. Right now I am using SelectedValueChange to fire the code that loads the choices in the later boxes. There are a number of possible events that I could use:SelectedIndexChangedLeaveLostFocusTextChangedI was wondering if someone could give me a rough idea what the differences are between these. Is there a 'best' evnet to use? Also, I find that most events work when the choice is made with a mouse click but if you click in the box and type in a value an event does not fire. How can I program for the case where the user enters a value by typing it in instead of choosing from the drop down list?
I'm designing a form wherein a datagrid is being filtered from numerous controls.
The issue im having is each filter overrides the previous one. Just wondering the best way to approach this problem.
Heres a snippet of my
Private Sub MakeIDComboBox_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MakeIDComboBox.SelectedIndexChanged Sheet1BindingSource.Filter = "Make like '" & MakeIDComboBox.SelectedItem & "'" End Sub
I have a listbox in a datagrid that is supposed to update upon selection change, and it does, but not on first try. only after it has posted back, after the first time it is clicked will it work as intended. Here is the front end portion of the datagrid with the listbox.
I'm new to visual basic and I've put all forths of effort towards this program and I can't get it to work. I know one reason is I don't know how to add my choices to the first two list boxes.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim RegistrationFee As Integer Dim LodgingFee As Integer Dim Days As Integer
wondering if someone can help me some small issues I am having with building my first project.
1.I have comboboxes that allow users to enter their own choices in and then their choices are displayed into the gridview.
the problem I am having is this is allowing me to duplicate choices. for example:when I run debug to try my boxes, I can type in Johnathan into the combobox as many times as I want to and it adds is to the combobox list..so now I got 10 johnathans in my combo box.and then to make things worse, when I hit the button I made to send choices to display..it causes duplicated choices to show up in the display. What I figure is that it is easier for me to just prevent duplicates in combobox.
2.Lets say on one of 10 comboboxes I got...lets say someone skips the box and doesnt make a choice...my grid will then display the last choice made.. (man o man)for example:John chose in his boxes and is displayed on gridview: Combobox1 (john) Combo2 (5:00 PM) combo3 (waiting)now lets say I come up to the computer and in Combobox1(Dcurvez) Combo2( i skipped and didnt enter a choice) and Combobox3(In Progess)
The display will put Dcurvez....5:00 PM.....In Progress because I didnt make a choice in the time combobox..it put in the last choice (Johns) as 5:00 PM Can someone in very simple terms tell me how to fix this problem?? I am using visual studio 2008 and vb/vb.net as language this is not a webpage, btw. it is for in shop computer just.
ok.. just as it sounds.. I'm kinda making a document portal app for work.. has 4 list boxes going to 4 different drive locations.. for cosmetic reasons I want only the last box you clicked in to show a selected item.. so if you selected box 1 item and it was hilighted and then you went to box 2 and selected something I wanted box 1 to then dissapear.
I have some code written to handle this.. but its not working so well.. since I use the SelectedIndexChanged trigger to fire off another piece of code to unselect all the other windows.. those listboxes fire their triggers also because I have to call lstWord. SelectedIndex = -1 to make it not have something selected anymore.. and when you do that.. it calls its SelectedIndexChanged and ends up deselecting everything.. so wasnt sure if anyone had done something like this before.. seems like something that would have been done before.. but as you can imagine searching the web for "multi list box select only one at a time" or something similar..gives you some strange results..
I have made a program that minimizes a function of several variables. My question is why I keep getting diffrent results on subsequent runs? The inputs of all runs are same.
I am not sure how to make my program pause in the middle of execution, waiting for a certain period of time to pass BEFORE the next lines execute. I have already used System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(int) but this pauses the waits but still executes the subsequent code. If I were to:Private Sub Hello()System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(int)MessageBox.Show("Hello")End Sub* Time in milliseconds. This would NOT stop the execution of the MessageBox for int seconds, the program continues to run???How would I pause the code execution where I want, and for the time I want?
I have written some code in a form which is shown via ShowDialog from a different form. This code fills a DataGridView with data from two tables in a dataset, one through data binding, and one through more manual means. The latter part runs, or more accurately, fails to run in the same way if I call this form in the same way subsequently but without stopping debugging.
I am developing an application proj on it.. In that, I want to separate charaters of the string which is of following stream, 18 Feb 2011 06:05:24 0601 110218055515,3,26;9948;9948;9947;9951;9956;9954;99 61;9958;9965;9967;125672N0801272E;110218055550; In this I want to separate as, Mail recieved time = 18 Feb 2011 06:05:24 msg recieved time = 110218055515 msg sent time = 110218055550 Position = 125672N0801272E water level 1 = 9948 water level 2 = 9948 water level 3 = 9947 water level 4 = 9951 water level 5 = 9956 water level 6 = 9954 water level 7 = 9961 water level 8 = 9958 water level 9 = 9965 water level 10 = 9967 I am only aware of IndexOf and LastIndexOf methods, and these methods are used to find the index of first and last occurence character position, but I want to split the string in subsequent characters too..
1) How do I use cookies obtained from login to do subsequent requests? e.g. Login to a forum, then use the cookie obtained from login to access User CP and change settings.
2) How do I parse HTML via HttpWebRequest? Does mshtml work with HttpWebRequest? If so, how do I work with it? I thought of downloading the source code of the page I'm requesting into a richtextbox and do my stuff from there, but it sounds kinda impractical to me since I have to use regex to get the innertext of stuff (or not?).
I'm using visual studio 2008 and creating a Windows For Application.
I'm almost completed my little application and what I've discovered just recently is that any change I made is not taking affect.
What I mean is if I change the display name of a button or insert a msgbox popup, it doesnt make it to the build when I run it. There are no errorswarnings.
I have visual basic 2008 express. i am learning through videos at LearnVisualStudio.Net and the next step is to add item which is the sql database. i don't have this as one of my choices? am i suppose to have it with express? if not, can i get it somehow and add it to my Add Item list as one of my choices? I have the local and the server database but the video i'm following has an SQL database. Again i am just learning so be easy on me.
I have 2 comboboxes, textbox and a cmdbutton. When the user makes a selection in one combobox I want it to filter the choices in the second combobox. Then when the user clicks the button it passes the values from the comboboxes to a stored procedure and populates a datagridview. I am using VB.net 2005 and sql server 2005.
I have two combo boxes, and four buttons. When the user clicks "Add" on the first combo box, it adds a new item to the combo box with "New" and then lets the user rename that item to something else. That "new" item has to have an array of "answers" that go along with that item in the list. What I'm having trouble figuring out is assigning "answers" to the second combobox for each item in the first combobox and changing the second combobox when selecting an item in the first combobox.
I am trying to dynamically resize labels and position each subsequent label a perdetermined distance from the end of the label that was just generated. My code looks like this:
The final goal is to use the numbers next to the PU and PD characters to perform specific calculations.
Essentially, I think the code needs to do the following:
1. Read each block of characters ending in a ";"
2. If the block commences with anything other than PU or PD, discard it
3. Extract the numbers in such a way that calculations can be performed. The following is an example:
x y PU4179,27448; PD4179,29951;
[Code]....
Essentially, there will be hundreds of these rows and I will need to sum up the deltas so that a specific formula can be applied.
I have tried doing this a number of ways but each seem very inefficient (using text boxes to store/swap data and creating additinal text files are 2 methods I have tried) and so I'm looking for some direction.
I'm going to create some command line tools that make use of some large library DLL's. For security reasons I plan to embed the DLL's in the command line's EXE. Example:Suppose the CL's (command line tool) functionality is to just copy a file from A to B. The procedure to do this is included in a 100MB library DLL. If I would just take out the lines of code from the DLL and paste them in the CL's code then the CL would only be 10Kb.But I don't want to do that, so I embed the full library in the CL's EXE, which will make it 101MB in size.I once read somewhere (cannot remember where) that Windows would only use the part of the EXE that's actually used. So if that's true then it shouldn't matter if the EXE size is 10Kb, 100MB or 1GB.I own the code of the DLL, so if the best solution is to not include the whole DLL but just only link to or include those code files, of the DLL project, that are used by the CL then I will go that way.will the 10Kb CL run faster and consume less memory than the 101MB CL?
I have a simple 'Working' form that runs on its own thread to keep the user informed that the application hasn't died during long running operations. In order to get the working form to update I had to insert a DoEvents() call. I'm curious, will this only pump messages for the current thread I'm in, or will it do it for the whole application? I would prefer that the main window stay unresponsive till the operation finishes. Just to be clear, I'm fine with the code I have, but I would like to know how DoEvents() behaves with threads.
Below is the code for the working form. Public Class frmWorking ''' <summary> ''' Creates and starts a new thread to handle the Working Dialog ''' </summary> ''' <returns>The thread of the Working dialog.</returns> [Code] .....
config files, or dll.config for a class library project (dll). Does the dll have to be compiled for the changes in the config file to take affect? The problem I've noticed is that I add a reference to another solution to my dll, and it still has a connection string that points to the test database, even though I've updated it in the config file.
I am using a Checkbox outside of a datagrid. When i select the check box autopostback is true, and this would then show the image, but i cant access the images within the datagrid with that script. If i use a seperate image outside of the datagrid the script works. How can i get this script to work finding when the checkbox out side of the datagrid is checked to then show the image within the datagrid?
The script i am using is <script runat="server"> Sub Check(sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
We are looking to port our existing classic ASP application to .NET, but we're unsure of what language to use for the new app. I personally would 'prefer' C#, as I'm more familiar and comfortable with that languages way of doing things, but, the original code is VBScript, so it would possibly be easier to port to VB.NET ... One possible situation I fear would be that, because the code is so similar between the two variants of VB, that we might end up getting stuck on something that is not similar between the two, even though it looks like it would work. A shift to a wholly different language might avoid that kind of situation. Does anyone have any practical examples of this kind of situation? Insights to illuminate the issue with? Do the potential benefits of a complete paradigm shift outweigh the gains from a high degree of 'copy-and-paste-ability' ?
i'm trying to display a random messagebox that displays a message associated with a character. the character image displays and the user clicks a button to guess the character if it is correct, one of three messages should randomly appear that is associated with that character (there are 4 characters, so there are 12 possible messages total. 3 for each character) but as it stands now, the picture box on the form displays the character name so the user doesn't have to guess which button to push. i need to remove the name from beneath the picture so only the buttons have the name and the user is forced to guess and i don't have the messages randomly popping up. only a messabebox that says correct i added a message box in the code but i can't figure out how to randomly get the messages associated with the characters to appear?
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Dim currImageIndex As Integer = 0 Dim characterNames As String() = New String() {"Donny", "Jesus", "Lebowski", "Walter"}
I am COMPLETELY new to Visual Basic except for a high school Computer Programming class and I'm attempting to make a text-based game via VB2008. There is a tough problem I'm having. I followed a few YouTube tutorials and managed to create something where you can press a button and have a window open where you search for a text file and have it's file path appear in a text box. My problem now is that I want certain lines of this text file to change the text of certain Labels on a different form. I don't know how to do this though?
I am currently programming in Visual Studio 2010 within VB.NET and am using DevExpress v10.2, specifically WinForms. In the DevExpress GridControl at runtime you can click on the right side of the column header and choose which values in the column you want to show. For example if your table contained:
Then if you click on the right side of the checkbox's header you can choose checked (or unchecked) and it would display only the data that is checked (or unchecked). In this case with checked you would have:
Name1 Checked Name4 Checked
I was wondering if there was some way to override the names so instead of letting me choose checked or unchecked I could override it with 'owned' and 'rented' or 'active' and 'inactive' based on what the checkbox represents in that specific column.
I'm building a game using the traditional form view on VS2010 and I'm trying to change the colour of a label's text depending on its contents. I believe I've coded that fine, but the problem is that the settings for the label in the designer view pane are overriding my code!Is there a way to disable certain options in the designer view so that my code can work?
I've been trying to write a vb program to help me login to a website! I've managed it with HtmlCollection, but the problem is that on the next page there are a few choices that need checking and it goes kind of crazy. Is there any way to login to the website, fill the choices and then navigate further?
