I have written some code in a form which is shown via ShowDialog from a different form. This code fills a DataGridView with data from two tables in a dataset, one through data binding, and one through more manual means. The latter part runs, or more accurately, fails to run in the same way if I call this form in the same way subsequently but without stopping debugging.

View 3 RepliesI have a datagridview I am displaying on a form and would like to format one of the columns differently then the available formats. I have a column that is a decimal(18,2) (in the table) named "MyDecimalField". In asp.net I could do this, in the "template field" of a datagrid.
math.round(MyDecimalField / 60 , 2)
In VB.net forms I cant figure out how to do that. Basically I need to divide the cell by 60 and round that to 2 decimal places.
IE
the Cell contains this: 1283.93
I want the user to see this: 21.40
1283.93 / 60 = 21.3988333 then round it to 21.40
Based on our tests primarily done in VB.NET in VS2010 it seems that when you close a WinForm the "RowValidating" event of the DataGridView on that form behaves differently depending on whether the form is MODAL or NON-MODAL. What we did was open the form (MODAL and NONMODAL) and changed a value of a cell and then immediately clicked the "X" to close the form. It looks like the "RowValidating" event DOESN'T fire if the grid is on a MODAL form but it DOES fire when the grid is on a NON-MODAL form. We can't figure out why that is... Is this a known bug in .NET?

I add the control to the form, click the arrow on the control and select "add project data source". I am working on a project that allows the user to search the database for particular records, then passes the record that the user chooses to the main form to be manipulated or changed. Yes I am aware that I could let the user change the values in the datagridview, but I do not wish to do that this way. DataGridView inserting an extra row every time I populate with data. The row appears even if I only fill the column headers. This is causing problems when I try to get values of each cell. Is there a way to avoid this perhaps in properties?

I have already used System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(int) but this pauses the waits but still executes the subsequent code. I have a project that has several combo boxes on one form. The selection in a box can affect the possible choices in subsequent boxes. Right now I am using SelectedValueChange to fire the code that loads the choices in the later boxes. There are a number of possible events that I could use:SelectedIndexChangedLeaveLostFocusTextChangedI was wondering if someone could give me a rough idea what the differences are between these. Is there a 'best' evnet to use?Also, I find that most events work when the choice is made with a mouse click but if you click in the box and type in a value an event does not fire. How can I program for the case where the user enters a value by typing it in instead of choosing from the drop down list?

I am using Streamreader to read a text file containing data such as the following:

The final goal is to use the numbers next to the PU and PD characters to perform specific calculations.
Essentially, I think the code needs to do the following:
1. Read each block of characters ending in a ";"
2. If the block commences with anything other than PU or PD, discard it
3. Extract the numbers in such a way that calculations can be performed. The following is an example:

Essentially, there will be hundreds of these rows and I will need to sum up the deltas so that a specific formula can be applied.
I have tried doing this a number of ways but each seem very inefficient (using text boxes to store/swap data and creating additinal text files are 2 methods I have tried) and so I'm looking for some direction.
