I want the web browser to run much quicker: To acheive this I would like to disable the vb webbrowser from displaying pictures. I could not find a property to do this, within the vb browser settings + I would rather not have to fiddle with computer's registry files.

View 1 RepliesJust moved a .NET 2.0 App from VS2005 to VS2010 and noticed that now when a window containing a WebBrowser tries to retrieve a pdf it thows out an error (unknown file type System.Byte[]). This would usually indicate that Acrobat Reader has not been installed - but open up IE9 and enter the link into the address bar and the PDF displays in the browser without any incident!
Should point out that the app created in VS2005 and installed on Win 7 (actually Server 2008 R2 in 'Workstation Mode') has the same issue.. All works fine in XP and below... Do seem to remember this on a Vista box, but put that down to Acrobat not being installed!
I am using a ListView control to display Pictures along with description and caption. I used to save the full path of the image in the url field, so when I display them in the ListView I don't need to edit anything. Now I am using something like:
HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/photos/") + savedURL
How can I edit my ListView to make it show the images?
I used to do the same to GridView when in GridViews RowDataBound event I manipulate the contents like:

I am creating a WEB report in Visual Studio 2010 in VB.net. The report needs to display a table (please see the attached image). I am thinking to use the GridView component which i think it's the most appropriate one to choose. In the database there are students' data and marks. I can't alter the database in any way and i have to use Visual Studio 2010 with VB.
What i need to do is to show 3 different pictures(for example) depend on the student's marks. I got the pictures file in PNGs but this can be flexible.For example, over 70 will be a Smile picture. over 60 will be the Normal face. and over 40 will be the picture with no smile. I bit difficult for me to explain but i hope u get my point.
So pls advice me how can i achieve this. I am quite a newbie to this pls put as detail as you can. if there is a choice between client and server side script, i prefer server side script. Data source can be flexible (sql, or linq or anything).

i hv task to perform in timer which includes msgbox of type YesNo it should stop to get the response (Yes or No) but it is showing msgboxes continously. i want the apllication to stop for response (Timer also) as it does in vb6.0 i hv attached the file(see it to get the exact idea of problem)
View 4 RepliesI have a very annoying problem and I'm trying to find the simplest solution possible, but I seem to keep complicating it.
My program displays a custom dialog box using the ShowDialog function (I create this form using a New constructor), but while my program waits for input in the dialogbox, my program continues to run other code, (I'm assuming initiated from other messages, but I still can't find good information on this, so as an aside to this topic does anyone have a reference about this), and arrives at this same point where the dialog box is to be displayed and displays it. So I end up getting a flood of dialog boxes.
My goal is prevent this excessive amount of dialog boxes. If the program arrives at this dialog initiation point I would like it to wait/pause until the first dialog box is finished.

View 2 RepliesI'm using a webBrowser control as a simple HTML editor & I'm trying to stop the default action of creating a new <p> (paragraph) element every time you hit the enter key while typing text into the control.
I have added a handler for the keyDown event & I can insert a break tag, but nothing I do seems to be able to stop the webBrowser from continuing to process the event.
As you can see in the code I tried setting the e.BubbleEvent to false to stop the event.
The added event handler works just fine & executes before the webBrowser processes the event, but setting the e.BubbleEvent=False (or true) has no effect.[code]...
I have created an application that uses two forms one is displayed on a touchscreen and is a basic input form, the other is displayed on a large display monitor and is basically an information form, both displays are connected to the same pc. The program works great I have just one annoyance is if the program is restarted it displays both forms on the touchscreen and I have to drag the information form onto the big display. Is there a way to specify on load that each form gets displayed maximized on a certain screen so I don't have to drag one form onto the correct screen?

View 1 RepliesI have a VB.net form which has two webpages embedded. The webpages have a 5 second auto refresh built into the HTML header as the information is constantly changing.
The problem I have is when I pull up a secondary form, I lose focus to the 'Main' form everytime the webpage refreshes.
Is there any way to stop the webpages autorefreshing in the form and I will build in a refresh command into a timer I already have in place and then I can start and stop the refresh at will.
Unfortunatly I cannot amend the source code of the HTML as this is required for a different process elsewhere.
Is there a way to stop or minimize forms and dialogue boxes from freezing? they seem to take up a lot of memory when loading to the point that they some times look transparent for a few seconds.

What isn't working for me is the panels are slightly overlapped and one will always be on top of the other. it is transparent so you can see the back ground, but not the panel underneath it when it has a picture in it.

I'm looking to create a counter that counts to 25 and loops back around again with a button control and another button control to stop it. So I press a button to start and another to stop and I want it to display the number it stopped on. Is this possible? and how do I do it if it is? I can figure out how to display the label and create a simple counter(that doesn't loop), but I'm unsure on the rest.

I've managed to make it through most of the book, which was very helpful in getting a quick jump start, but I find that I am still "not quite getting it" yet.
I've written a program that has a "Start" and "Stop" button which are suppose to control the logging of data through a serial port. When I click the Start button, the serial port gets initialized, opened, and then I go into a Do-Loop-Until loop to process the incoming data stream, and that is suppose to stop when the Stop button is pressed. However, I haven't figured out how to implement that.

I have a datepicker control that displays an appointment date. This date may be nothing, but the datepicker always displays a date, understandable I suppose.There a plenty of occasions when I want a date to be null, and to display that status, how is this commonly handled in the user interface? I don't want to give up the nice functionality of the datapicker, but I need to somehow indicate that no date has yet been set.
View 3 RepliesI have a .net 4 form application. On a button click event, I want to open a form that has a GIF image in a webbrowser control, that says please wait. Then it opens a second form that has a datagridview that is being populated from a SQL query. Then I just hide the wait form. The reason I have resorted to this method is that sometimes it takes a while to display the results from with datagridview depending on what the user selected previously. The issue that I am having is the wait form displays but the GIF does not show up. If I make the application wait by using the following code the GIF show up like it supposed to until the timer runs out. At that point the image stops moving but is still present.

My original intent was to use the show method to display the results form and then hide the previous form, but sometimes the previous form would close before I could display the results form.
I am having a problem with objects that have other objects as properties on a property grid. Now when I display the object clsPropsFrame on the property grid, everything shows up as expected, except when I try to edit the x, y, or z of location which is of type clsPropsVec3, it ignores the change. What's strange is that when I type the vector in as a string (like "0, 16, 0"), it changes.

I noticed that when I changed a component of clsPropsVec3, the property change in clsPropsFrame does not get executed. I tried making it fire of an event when a component is changed in clsPropsVec3, with the following additional

But for some reason it ever fires off the ValueChanged event. So how can I make the sub properties of clsPropsVec3 work?
i have a combobox that is linked to a database, but when an item is selected it is changing the name of the top item to the selected name. im sure this is happing because it is its text value and not it selectitem value, is there anyway to stop text input so it becomes a selected value rather than a text property
