May 3, 2012I have a project with many forms on it, some of them are dialog forms, some of them are mdi children of my master form. What I need to do is when a user press the ESC button on his keyboard to dispose the form that is working on. either is mdi or dialog form. I know that I can use the event of the form key down and then check the key code if is the esc to dispose the form, but this is not I looking for since I will have to pass from all my forms and create that event. Is there any other way when my master form is load to create my own event for any form load event? And trigger it from there to assigne my custom code for ESC key. So I will not have to pass from all the forms to create that event.

Nov 10, 2011We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

Jan 19, 2010I tried using the web browser control for the first time.The problem I had was that the size of the web browser defaulted to the size of the form. Even when I tried to downsize the webbrowser ( via properties ) it still filled the entire form. I also tried to drastically increase the size of the form( again via the form's properties ), the web browser still filled the entire form. how to create a form where the web browser only takes up half the space of the form.

While the .NET form is working fine in all other testing projects and environments, I've found that the Form_load event is actually firing twice once it's in executing in the VB6 runtime.Not only annoying, its forcing my initialization code to execute twice (causing all kind of problems on the second run).

Aug 21, 2010I'm making a program that takes common applications and installs them silently using batch files. Someone would select the programs they would want to install and my program will write a giant batch file and execute it to install whatever they want. Heres the problem, After the user selects the programs they go into either one or two lists. Non Silent Installer List Or Silent installer list.
Some programs I have simply won't go silently so from there they can choose in what order they want to install these programs. Then there is a combo box that tells weather you want to install non silent programs first or last. From there you hit add to batch file and it would add everything in listbox1 and listbox2 in order. Listbox1 would contain just the text "MalwareBytes" for example. Along with Novell Groupwise and Firefox. How do I get that to add to the Batch List as a code and in order? So the user wants Malware bytes added first to the batch file. How do I add that to my batch list as a completely different code?

Automatically Match Checkboxes On Two Different Forms After Loaded
Jun 3, 2010I have a form that opens another. I want the second form's checkbox to match the first form's after the second has loaded. I tried using MyForm2_Load, MyForm2_Activated and MyForm2_Shown but the checkbox checked state of the second form always changes the checkbox in first form. The code below works if I check the checkbox in either form, the other changes to match it. The problem occurs only when MyForm2 is first loaded. How can I get it to work the way I want it?

Aug 19, 2009I have a form with an Adobe PDF reader control. I point to a specific PDF I want to load when a button is clicked. The PDF is 28 Megs big and takes some time to load into the reader. I would like a progress bar to to show (like a showdialog kind of thing) so the user does not click all over the place and thinks the app is static.
The PDF reader is loaded like this:

Feb 13, 2011I have a multiline textbox which is loading from a .dat file. However, despite telling it to load all of the .dat file, it misses off the end. I it copies the first large body of text and a load of spaces that are inbetween the first and second body, but doesn't load the second body of text. Here is the code I'm using to open my file:
