Jan 18, 2012I have 2 forms in my visual basic 2010 project. Both are connected with an SQL 2008 Server where i keep a db with customers records(name,surname,address, etc).What i want to do is to give certain criteria in the first form, lets say name,and hit a search button. The program should search the db if the specified name exists.If it exists i want to show the results in the second form.By results i mean the name , surname, address,etc. If it does not exist i want to prompt the user to insert data into the db.The problem is that i know how to do this work in a single form but not how to make the two forms "communicate" with each other (meaning that one does the search and the other the projection-adding part).
Edit:I tried setting the filters but all i get is errors. I will post whatever i have written so far in case someone can help me out. So here it is.As i stated earlier i know how to search for the data in a single form(lets call it DisplayForm). As Olivier mentioned i have textboxes for the records, a combo box with the search criteria(name , surname,id) and a Search button that perfoms the search and populates the text boxes. The code for the search button is this:

Using TransactionScope - Windows Service That Reads From An Excel Spreadsheet And Imports Records Into A SQL Server 2000 Database Table
Oct 30, 2007I have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.
However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.

My program just uses basic math functions and display the data in datagridviews. It uses webbrowser and other toolbox options. It doesn't use the registry and only creates one txt file.

One of the fields in Unavailability is filled by a form, the other fields are an autonumber and a foreign key to the Student table.ow I want records in the Duty table to be created and automatically filled in depending on what the values of the fields are in the Student table.For example, If the Boarder field in the Student table is 'yes' then I want the Duty Number field in the Duty table to be '1', '3' and '4'. If it is 'no' then I want the value to be '2' and '5'. I recognize it will have to create several different records to incorporate the different duty numbers for each StudentID. Obviously this will require an if statement, however this is my first time implementing a database with my limited experience with programming and Visual Basic, so I don't know how to refer to the specific fields in a table and set the value of other fields depending on the data in other fields.

VS 2008 Columns In 2 DataGridViews On Same Form Cannot Have Same Name?
Jun 26, 2009I discovered a problem in C# (boo hiss!!!) but it applies to VB.NET as well.I decided to build a little app to load info from some audio files using Taglib-sharp (nice little thing it is!) and create a Winamp playlist from the loaded files. (I know it's lame, don't laugh! I just wanted to learn some C#!)I have a form with 2 DataGridViews. I load the first dgv with some tag info from the selected files. I then move those files from 1 grid to the other, shuffling their positions along the way.The annoyance I found is during form design. If I try and name a column in the second DGV the same as in the first (eg. "Filename") I get an error that says the name is already in use by another component.To me this is not right. The column is part of a separate object, shouldn't this mean that "Filename" in object1 isn't the same as "Filename" in object2? I even have to refer to the specific object to get the column's value in a row. [code] to access the column's value in the first row of dgvMine or dgvOther, then why does the darn designer care if "Filename" exists in dgvMine and also in dgvOther? Shouldn't they be separate declarations "within" each of dgvMine and dgvOther?
