I am retrieving some records from a database dynamically, not knowing exactly which table I need to query, or even which fields to retrieve. I display this data in a control that looks a bit like a listbox, except each item is two lines: a label and a value. Now, the user needs to be able to browse through this list until he finds the item he needs, and then he should be able to edit the item.
This application will (eventually, this is just a 'proof of concept') run on a mobile device or PDA or something like that, so space is limited. To allow the user to edit a value, I simply show a panel containing some edit control (textbox, checkboxes, combobox, etc), let the user edit whatever he's editing, save the change and display the list of items again.[code]...
I am coding in Visual Basic. I am using a checkbox control. Now depending on its checked property I need to set/unset a bit column in a SQL Server database. Here's the code:
Try conSQL.Open() Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("update Student set send_mail = " + _
[Code].....
The send_mail attribute is of bit datatype. This code is not working.
I have been using Visual Basic for about 2 weeks now so I know I am getting in over my head at this point, but times a factor. I have created a user form with around 100 User entered text boxes and pull down menus, tabbed pages etc. I can create a distributable file with no problem. However I cannot find any kind of example, tutorial, etc that will show me how to allow an end user to save the form as "enterfilenamehere.DCP" (for example) and then reopen any .dcp file created in my form application. The only examples and tutorials I can find are how to type text and save it as a txt. format. Could someone lend a complete novice some advice or point me in a good direction on where to learn about saving and opening custom file types? To clarify The user can use my form, But at this point has no way of saving and recalling what they entered in my form. It's a one time use only...not really what I want.
I have an App where I'd like to be able to edit any type (font, colour, point etc.) at run time and use any of the .Net default type editors. (e.g., font/ colour picker).
Rather than re-invent the wheel, I decided to use the property grid control.
If I pass an object of, say font, to the grid, it lists all the fields separately, with no option to open the font picker.[code]...
i am using a third party tool "lookupedit control" which is similar to a combobox. as we type in the address bar of our browser we get the related items in the dropdown of the address bar. eg: if e type go we get all the items starting from go in the drop down of the address bar. I want to implement the same functionality for lookupedit or a combobox.
I'm inheriting a couple of the common WinForms controls and then manually repainting them so that they will correctly render over a WinForm with the Aero Glass effect enabled. I have this working well with the TextBox. I ran into a snag with the ComboBox though in that it would only repaint some of the control. I fired up MS Spy++ and saw that the ComboBox has an Edit control in it (that's not in it's control collection). I can repaint that Edit box, but I need to get the handle of it and a couple of my attempts have flopped. I found some code that used the FindWindowEx API passing the Comboboxes handle but for me it returns 0.
Basically, I need the handle of the edit control inside the combobox (once I understand how to correct get that then I can get the additional controls in other ones I want like the ListView). Here's the Spy++ screen shots to illustrate (from Spy++ I can see the individual handles).
I have just about completed writing an application for college. I load quotes into a webbrowser control for the user to view and print, my question is, can the user edit text in a webbrowser control (I want them to have this option) or am I better off using a text box control.
i have this program that allows multipal versions of one form when the program recives a command testform|this is a test|Admin testform is the form name this is a test is the message Admin is the user who sent tit what i want to do is use the name to find the form >>>> add the message to a text box on that form >>> tell them who sent the message in it as well but i dont know how to find the form or add to the box on it?
q1/ how can i add a menuitem to ie edit control context menu? is it a registry setting? q2/ after i've added a menuitem to ie edit control context menus, how can i programmatically edit the text in that edit control when i click my menuitem?
I have a .aspx page that loads three separate .ascx controls to represent adding, editing and listing objects. It currently simply swaps out visibility and enables/disables the controls to switch between pages. However, when listing objects (in a gridview), we offer the basic "Edit" button beside each one. Clicking on this will, obviously, load up the edit control for that user. This functionality exists inside of the control, rather than the parent page. Is it possible to modify attributes for the parent based on events occurring in a child control? (For example, change the visibility and enable/disable the other children controls)
How do i edit the column header of the GridView control on a web form? I have added a Table to DataSource as:
Me.gvSearchBrandList.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)
in here "gvSearchBrandList" GridView control But the GridView control display the column headers of the Table in the database. But how do i edit those column name in the GridView?
Basically what needs to happen is when the user clicks edit onto the gridview and clicks on a certain textbox a javascript calendar popups up and the user picks a date.So far, I can set it statically and the calendar works for that one row, but not the other rows since the ID changes. My ASP Code (id of textbox has been set to txtStartDate):
I have created several simply custom controls and I used them in my app. Now, I changed the background color in a custom control class, because I wanted an other color for this type of control. But in my app, the background of this controls didn't change. Why? I assume, I don't need to place again this controls on each forms to get the new background color, or do I? If yes, this is very stupid in my opinion.
I'm trying to figure out how to remove a border from a tab control. The closest thing I can find is the following link but I don't know how to add this to my vb.net form.[URl]..
I am changing the content menu strip of the control to my menu strip but nothing happens.I can see my menu strip in the rest of the form but dhtml edit control does not react to right click.
I insert DataGridViewComboBoxColumn columns in a DataViewGrid. That works fine.
Now, I want the user to be able to not only select one list item, but to "drilldown" into the list that is behind the combobox, allowing him to edit (insert/delete/update) the list.
I think it would be a good idea to display a ".." button right behind the dropdown button of the combobox. Pushing it leads to a dialog where the list can be maintained.
What I am stumbling upon is:
How would I create such a custom combobox? Is ComboBox (which is the base for the combo box that the combo box column creates as its edit control) open enough to accommodate such an additional button? What would be the container of the tiny buttoon -- the ComboBox descendant? How I would make the grid create and handle such a custom combobox?
I currently try to solve this by subclassing DataGridViewComboBoxColum, using a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendent in its CellTemplate assignment, and overriding PositionWEditingPanel and PositionEditingControl to manipulate the sizes of the panel and the combobox so I'd have space for the tiny button. Is that the correct way?
Or would I have to create a DataGridViewColumn descendant which creates a Panel containing a DataGridView combobox edit control and the tiny button? How would I make sure the column keeps care of the combo box so it has the correct items etc?
I am trying to make it so when I use Me.Controls("Timer1") for example I can access specific commands for a timer such as Stop() Start(), I tried CType() and typed in "Timer" as the type but it says the control type can't be converted to the "Timer" type.
Using the walkthrough from [URL], I implemented a DatagridView in virtual mode, totally unbound, in VB 10 Express (we are talking WinForms).
I understand that CommitEdit (DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit) commits the current cell's contents to the data cache.
The example uses row-level commit, i.e. it pushes the values into a row buffer until the current row is left. Only then the row is added to (or updated in) the data store. That's exactly what I do, too.
Question -- how can I commit the current row programmatically without leaving it? (I want to commit the whole row, not just the current cell.)
If the user leaves the row, there is a RowValidating, RowValidated, RowEnter event sequence where the datastore update is taken care of. So one idea (currently my only one) was to simply re-set CurrentCell to Nothing, for example.
But I cannot just set the DataGridView's CurrentCell property to Nothing (or any cell outside of the current row) since I want to commit from within an event handler of a custom edit control created by a custom column, and I see an System.InvalidOperationException exception when setting CurrentCell there.
In fact, it is a tiny button right to a combo box, i.e. I create a DataGridViewComboBoxCell descendant which is a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn descendant's edit control. My special ComboBox cell adds a tiny button which should commit the current row. Unfortunately, that button's _Click event handler cannot change CurrentCell since DetachEditingControl throws the exception then.
Obviously, I must delay the CurrentCell re-assignment until the whole _Click event has been processed. Or what? How would I do that -- register a custom Windows message, SendMessage that one to me, and override the windows procedure of the form so it re-sets CurrentCell when this message is received? (Hello?)
There should be a rather easy way to let DataGridView commit all changes by firing the events that I handle to perform the datastore update, no?
I am able to only add controls that are of type TextBox. My question to you is, can I create a List to hold more than one control type or do I have to create a list for each control type?
I have a form that adds new contacts. New contacts are added by pressing an appropriate button and they appear as an entry in the list on the form. I try now to add an edit button that will edit existing entries.User will select a given entry on the list and press edit button and will be presented with an appropriate form (AddContFrm).Right now it simply adds another entry with the same title. Logic is handled in a class called Contact.vb Here is my code.
Public Class Contact Public Contact As String Public Title As String[code]....
I need to manipulate an external edit control from with in my program. (IE: Get new text whenver it's being enter into edit control and parse the infomation in my program). So, is it possible to create an edit control in my program that base on the handle of an existing application using win32 api or something
I want to add a control in winforms that drops like combo box but can show data like datagridview. I have seen this control in an application but not able to find a way how to do it. (Pic attached)
Public Shared Function IsType(ctrl As Control, ByVal thisType As ??????) As Boolean Return (TypeOf ctrl Is thisType) I need a function that I can call, for example, to determine if a control is type RichTextbox.dim z as Boolean= IsType(txtBox1, RichTextBox) I ned to determine if a control is a given type (i.e., not always RichTextBox). I don't know what Type to make thisType. Can this be done?Actually I simpified the problem but if the above is answered I can write the function
