Is there a way to have a form within a program that doesn't dispose when you close it? I have a form in my project and a menu item to show it. When I declare the form globally and show in menuItem.click, then the click event breaks because the form no longer exists. When I declare the form within menuItem.click, then this creates a new form every time I click and that's not what I want.

Example:

Main form have label control I define properties in the interface Plugins.dll from Data.dll I load Plugins to read the label control from the mainform.The question is how can I do that?
I am using vb.net 2008 i have been using a mdi form which is the startup form for my prog. and i have a main menu on that form. now i would like to shift to tree view as my client has asked for it. whenever a node is selected i can select the form corresponding for that particular code. everything is fine till here. but when the form is loaded the tree view is coming on top of the form the tree view is docked in a pannel. now i have tried everything treemenu.sendtoback and the say the form to b called is taxtypemaster then taxtypemaster.bringtofront but still the tree view is coming over the form

Even the visible doesnt work as it seems after the .show it makes the tree view visible again. how do i hide the treeview pls. someone guide me at the earliest. i feel it is not the prob. of treeview but something to do with the mdi form am i right ?

View 8 RepliesI'm new in development in vb.net IDE, and I need your advises on how to create multi form in one screen like a project properties screen in VB2008 IDE, thus when you you go to Menu Project -> Project Properties... you can see that screen is divided into two panes the left one for options to choose and the right one for configuration and preferences.

I'm curious if it is possible to hide a group of text boxes from view in a form until a particular condition is met, and to have a custom set of text boxes for that condition. To give an example; I want radio buttons offering choices for a manner of searching records, the user selects one and then a specific set of text boxes are displayed for the user to utilize, if a different option is chosen a different set of text boxes will be shown. Is this something that can be done?

The database has over 60,000 unique multi-field records in it.The user can search in each field using drill-down to find a record, and then can add that record to a separate database.(60,000 collectibles described in a master database. User can drill down by category, manufacturer, year produced, etc. to find a record and then add it to their own 'collection', 'wanted', 'have for sale', or 'spares' database for record keeping.)
Instead of having them drill down, I would like for them to be able to perform a search and have all of the results (any amount of matches from 1 to 60,000+) appear on a scrolling form with a checkbox next to each so that they can simply check any that they want and do a mass add to their list databases.
The part I cannot figure out is how to have vb.net (2008) create a variable length scrolling form with the results, and how to identify the checkboxes (generated by the system for search matches) to see which, if any, have been checked by the user.
Is there any simple way to hide all the design time properties of a User Control.
When my UC is on a form there's a lot of properties in the properties explorer. All those default ones that every UC has. AccessibleName, AccessibleRole, Anchor etc etc etc (dozens of the them)
Any way to hide most/all those and just expose my own ?
I suppose I want my User Control to be more like a 'Component' like the Timer and other components that don't have a UI. Short of rewriting my UC as a Component is there any quick way to hide all those form properties ?
My UserControl has a Font property, and the user can edit this property in a Property Grid on the form (just like you as designer can edit font properties in the VS IDE property grid). The property in the grid is expandable (by clicking the [+] expand icon) and shows some sub-properties such as Name, Bold, Size, Italic, etc. It also shows two properties I want to get rid of: GdiCharSet and GdiVerticalFont.

Depending on a preprocessor directive, I want to set all properties in a class to EditorBrowsableAttribute.Never.

When I try to declare a local "Height" properly, VS prompts me warning to use "Overloads" instead. But when in form designer/control test run, I still see this property, or any other properties (BorderStyle) which I tried to hide.
I have a legacy application that has an interactive graphical user interface, but also periodically checks for files in a directory and reacts to the files. I want to launch the application from a VB program, but not see the GUI (i.e., just let the file interface do it's thing). I really don't want to see the application running on the desktop at all (e.g., no windows, nothing on taskbar), the only evidence would be if I checked task manager I'd see it running.
Obviously this app would be ideally a service, but that's not where we are and I can't change it so I'm trying to simply not see the GUI.
I've seen the ProcessStartInfo.CreateNoWindow and WindowStyle = hidden flags but they don't hide the GUI of the legacy app.
again launch the legacy app (actually an unmanaged C++/MFC app) from a VB managed admin app.

I have lost the auto hide option (greyed out) on the drop down solution and properties menus. The Toolbox still has the auto hide option. I cannot find the pin to set auto hide on the Solutin and Properties menus.

My idea is to distribute this library so others may use it in their applications.However, perhaps due to my lack of experience in writing and structuring the library and the classes therein, I noted that the methods/properties are ALL being shown in the IntelliSense of Visual Studio.
The thing is that many of them are only used within the library itself and should NOT be used by the developers (could create a disaster) when they incorporate my library in their application - only a few should be visibile i.e. the ones which are needed by the developer.Thus, my question is: is there a way to hide certain methods/properties of my library from Visual Studio's IntelliSense? Maybe something similar to REM?
EDIT: as mentioned - this is my first library and I now understand that my question could be intepreted in two ways:
1) how to hide something from IntelliSense
2) how to prevent a developer from using and calling certain methods/properties
Of course, the end-result that I want is that the developer is not able to access AT ALL certain methods/properties i.e. No. 2 above.

Both of them are images to scale. I would like to get some advise from all of you. I created a program setup using standard procedure(adding new project.. setup and deployment, setup project). When I ran the setup and installed the program in computer, It's working. Then I decided to amend certain form in the program. I right click at solution"my program name" and click rebuild solution. then i try to run again the setup, there is nothing happen after that(It remain like before amendment). Did I miss anything here? I have never used this method before and this is my first time using it.

The C# interface I'm working from defines properties and events (IsPostBack, Load) that are already implemented by the base control.However, VB.NET is forcing me to explicitly implement these properties/events in the user control (Public Property IsPostBack() As Boolean Implements IView.IsPostBack...). I'd like to just define these in the interface and not have to do anything special in the code-behind of the implementing user control.I'm assuming that I can do this in VB.NET, I just don't know how. I've spent all sorts of time googling/bing-ing, and haven't come up with the answer.
